Tata Motors is developing a 648 cc displacement diesel engine for its NANO which is expected to launch by 2010 end. Approx. price is 2.50 lakhs.

if the price is around 2.5lak, people can happily get a maruti 800 with better reliability and better engine[:D]

Sounds Good. Hopefully Tata can also consider offering optional safety features in Nano (Read Upcoming $10 Airbag).

The car is already cramped you don't want a face full of airbag every time you hit it. :|

ABS will do wonders if introduced at that price. [evil]

Tata would never launch a Nano with airbag or ABS. They might do it when Nano's demand comes down. But then i think, it would be the Europa.

am surprised you guys surprised on Tata giving airbags on nano! [shock]
Who said the car is cramped?? huh!Look at this..........




and about the diesel nano, well its gonna be good option in India but dont k know how many will buy it because other car like spark etc will go cheap in future..

I think diesel nano will be a hit in our country if they just improve the reliability a bit though!!

BTW nano cant be used for cruising in the highway , so IMO airbags wont make much of an effect instead ABS can be useful!!

Tata Nano to have world’s smallest CRDI engine

After completing the task of designing one of India’s most fuel efficient petrol engines, Bosch now has the diesel sipper ready for transplant into the Tata Nano.

Bosch calls the diesel engine “CRS 1.1″ where CRS stands for Common Rail System. Sources close to the engine’s development say it displaces 650-750cc making it the world’s smallest CRDI engine. The petrol engine on the presently running model displaced 623cc.

Another report in the media reads the Nano’s diesel engine will have a single cylinder and produce 25-30 hp but much more of torque making it easier to drive in the crowded Indian metros.

Bosch supplies front and rear drum brakes, the starter motor, alternator and the fuel injection system for Nano.

Production of the diesel variant, according to a source, begins in the third or final quarter of the following financial year.

great. mahindra came with world's first 2 cylinder CRDi engine for the maxximo & now tata is coming with world's smallest CRDi engine.

indians rock man!
