Tata Motors & Samsung Tie-up For In-Car Infotainment

GREATER NOIDA: Tata MotorsBSE 0.91 % and Samsung have entered into a collaboration under which the South Korean electronics major will provide in-car infotainment systems to the Indian auto maker.

Tata Motors would launch passenger vehicles next year equipped with Samsung's 'Drive Link Application' on MirrorLink technology that will help driver to navigate, answer calls and access Internet and music.

"We will introduce passenger cars in the market equipped with the technology within the next year," Tata Motors Passengers Vehicles Unit President Ranjit Yadav told PTI on the sidelines of the Auto Expo.

He said the company is looking at making the system available to its volume segment cars and not necessarily restrict it only to more expensive vehicles like Safari or Aria. Tata Motors and Samsung have been working jointly for last six months on this project.

"This is in our line of philosophy to offer new features to our customers to create differentiated products features that are relevant to the present and scalable for the future," he added.

Samsung has a global collaboration with the German auto major BMW for the same and the partnership with Tata Motors is its first in India. "Samsung is also a mass market brand and this is a good partnership. Tis technology will provide connectivity to the user while on drive," Samsung India Electronics Ltd, Head - Business and Enterprise Sameer Garde said.

IIRC, Ranjeet Yadao was previously working for Samsung.

BTW , I was looking for a in - car 3g camera +GPS car tracker so that car can be monitored from home including the happenings inside the car. Does Samsung have such a combined product?

This is a good move by Samsung. It is for the first time that a mobile vendor had tired up with an India car manufacturer. I hope both work and make some innovative solutions most suited for India in the car infotainment area.

I guess Samsung must have caused enough interest in this area for other Indian car manufacturers. Let's wait and see how things will shape up in this space now.

It will be good if micromax ties up with maruthi or mahindra to provide such solutions so that it will become a more common household name.
