It seems that Tata have finally woken up from their hibernation. They are going to recall all Nanos prior to Nano 2012, to change its starter motor.[thumbsup]

Source: Tata Motors Recalls 1.45 Lakh Nanos

Tata Motors has recalled 1.45 lakh units of the world’s cheapest car to replace the starter motor. The company claims that the recall is not due to any safety concern and is applicable to all Nano cars sold till date, except the 2012 Nano. The version 1 Nano will get the 2012 Nano’s starter motor. This is being done free of cost to the customers but will cost the company close to Rs. 100 crore. Earlier on problems with the starter motor were reported by customers on several instances. Now Tata Motors has corrected this issue with the 2012 edition of the car and has taken corrective action for the same on old Nano cars. Recall fever seems to have struck the Indian automobile market.

I was very happy that our Indian Manufacturers were not recalling cars unlike the Japanese(read Toyota,MS,Honda) but Tata really did the same mistake.
Now people would have lost faith in Nano 2012 even if the problem is solved:-(

Tata Motors is recalling all the Nanos which are manufactured up to Mid-September 2011. As per the manufacturer, this starter motor is being replaced to ‘enhance’ the performance. This job has been done approx. on 50,000 models while rest 65,000 are still remaining. Earlier in November 2010, Tata also recalled Nanos to fix exhaust and electrical system.

After the fire incidents, this would strike another blow to the Nano. Interesting fact is that Tata is not calling it a 'recall'. The company press release says it's merely an additional upgrade being given to the existing Nano owners to pass on the benefit of an improved part. Gimmick to save face? Probably. But the Nano still isn't going anywhere near it's hoped 30000 units a month target.

Tata thinks that people are fools by saying that they are upgrading, people now a days have been vigilant especially on tatas anyway we know the real colors of them. This act is very informal or unprofessional[anger]

Hondas and toyotas are better they atleast admit the mistakes.

Because Suzuki had 50 + years of making super wonderful gasoline engine, when compared to Tata whose forte always has been diesel engines, so dude I hope now you know why Nano diesel is hugely awaited by many.

Because when Mahindra was giving free upgrades to the XUV for the infotainment system & changing gear oil to synthetic to make gear shifts smoother, you had raised a HUGE cry on why they dint do it before & even to the extent of questioning their R&D...

But now when TATA is doing the same, it is a good thing. You dint ask similar questions like-

1) Are initial customer guinea pigs?
2) What was TATA's R&D doing for so many years?

Why this bias buddy?

Of course. Tatas have always been doing their R & D On the Road with their initial Guinea Pigs. Remember Indica V1 & then V2 as well? It took about 10 years for them to build "their best cars" (Vista/Manza). As quoted, they are their best as on date, but yet uncomparable with fellow rivals in the industry today.

One thing always knocks the minds, name an industry in India and TATAs are there, including Automobile since decades. But why not mastered them yet in passenger cars which has a tremendous play in India at present and in future???

Nevertheless, recalling the existing customers and fixing their bugs is appreciated for sure.[thumbsup]

I still stand by my comments. So many niggles and changes within first month, sigh..!!!![frustration]

Tata are not doing similar thing buddy, they are bringing these changes after extensive research after almost 2 years of Nano launch. It is different from changing things from the very first month itself,Mahindra could have delayed launch for one MORE month rather than fixing everything even after a fortnight of their best car's launch,IMO.

You dint ask similar questions like-
1) Are initial customer guinea pigs?
Apart from few fire issues Nano has remained mostly a niggle free car, and now since Tata have better technology, they are implementing it to their car. Most importantly they are upgrading their exsiting customers free of cost, what more one can ask for?And yes going by their recent launches, i.e., Vista,Manza,Aria,Nano, initial Tata customers are a satisfied lot and not guinea pigs, of course exceptions can take place.

2) What was TATA's R&D doing for so many years?
Tata R&D are improving all their exsiting products, they are really doing a good job.[thumbsup]
