After a week of rumor's now it's confirmed that TATA motor's wont be launching the vista EV in UK despite being eligible for the government's 5k€ grant.they confirmed that there is no plans to launch an electric car in the UK until 2015 at the earliest.

Electric commercial in production

However, Tata has already gone into with its new ACE electric commercial vehicle, which it unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham last week.
Currently the firm is making around ten vehicles a week of the new model at its production facilities in Coventry, with strong demand reported for the model. With a payload of up to 500kg, the Ace EV is designed in four derivatives; Chassis Cab, Drop Side Mini Truck, Box van and Tipper with optional cage.

Just 3,800mm long, the Ace EV is designed for workplace operation and benefits from a tight turning circle of 8.6 metres. It has a maximum speed of 25mph and a range of 30 miles.

There are plans for a second electric commercial vehicle to be launched next year.

Reportedly TATA did a mistake by launching Nano first in India. It became a poor mans car , though it was technologically very superior to many cars much more than its price.

This time by launching the ACE EV abroad first. It would have proved its mettle first and would be received by us folks in India at a higher pedestal unlike Nano.

Even though if it is built in india,it will still be very expensive product and moreover our indian fleet owner's are not eco-concious they would not appreciate the limited range, and aslo places like UK has green incentives it goes upto as much as waving off 5K€ from the price tag, that will alway's be a huge draw for the fleet owner's.

now, you indeed have a point there. In India people want range thats why mileage oriented cars are ruling our market and we do not have sources for alternative fuels too so its okay if they introduce it there first but want them to bring it in India soon. Otherwise Indian customers are going to ruin Tata.
