Had missed to read the write-up you posted yesterday and just went through the pics. Hence was my previous doubt.

A very descriptive write-up on the restoration of the beauty.

BTW, when did you get this car? You have wirrten you are yet to add new tyres to it. I suppose your 800 restoration and my ikon servicing happened around the same time[:)]

Got my ikon a complete mechanical overhaul 2 weeks back. Find the details in the thread. Might be helpful since you too own an ikon:

Bharath, Excellent write up and nice to know that your entire family has a close connection with automobiles. It must have been a painstaking job to transform the old Maruti 800 into Type-3 model. I think, the Type-4 headlamps will look even better because the front grill of your car belongs to the same generation too.

I thought of buying a Type 4 Headlamps. I had a dilemma on two little things so i settled for Type 3.

1. Type 4 HL are of Plastics. I am facing many issues of visiblity in my Ikon due to Plastic HL. My dad mostly drives it. He quite old and has some vision problems so i settled for glass Type 3 model.
2. Type 4 HL my dealer had was not original LUMAX. It was some damm local stuff. The Type 3 HL now in the car is of original LUMAX and it has superb visiblity.

You are correct. The new Type-4 headlamps does indeed affect the visibility to a considerable margin.

Finally started using my 1987 800 to work as i left my ikon for paint job. Just on monday filled her up with petrol for 8 liters. I will calculate the exact mileage and post it soon.

Guys i totally forgot about this thread. Here i go:-

Filled up my 87 800 thrice for Rs 500/- petrol. And it was around 8.05 or something liters on board. Here is my mileage calculation. And without A/C

1st time i got around 16.25kms/liter
2nd time i got around 17.5kms/liter
3rd time i got around 18.15kms/liter

The third time i drove around 70% on the highway and rest 30% in peak bumper to bumper traffic.

Update time guys:-

Changed the Tyres in 86 M800.

Went again for Infinity Brand China Tyres. The car is hardly used so decided to go for china brand. But now i have started using it after selling my ikon.

Cost:-

1 Tyre with Tube is 1800 bucks.

Total:- 7200 bucks but paid only 6800 bucks

You should not compromise with the tyres, because they are after all one of the most essential components of a car. These Chinese brands may cost cheaper but they are definitely not so trustworthy. I’d recommend to stick only with the popular names especially when it comes to things like the tyres.

Totally agreeing with 350Z.Tyres are the most important part. And so its quality should not be compromised.
The branded tyres are worth the money you pay, even though you 've to pay a premium for that.
