Though the Suzuki Jimny gets features such as autonomous emergency braking system and traffic sign recognition system along with the other safety features seen on its earlier counterpart, it has only scored a 3 Star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests.

New Suzuki Jimny sees skyrocketing demand

mageResizer.ashx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fExtraImages%2f20181221045329_White_JIMNY.jpg

Dealers in some countries have stopped taking orders for Suzuki’s new Jimny due to restricted stocks. Demand for the off-roader is quite high with the 1,200 cars allocated for 2019 for the UK already spoken for. New orders are being registered as ‘expressions of interest’ instead of taking deposits.

The new gen Suzuki Jimny’s retro classic styling scores high without even trying. The boxy shape not only emerges as honest and desirable but it also proves to be highly customizable as demonstrated by these two custom concepts – Suzuki Jimny Pickup Style and Jimny Surive. Both the design concepts made global debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

screenshot-gaadiwaadi.com 2019-01-18 10-36-20-624.jpeg

While the enthusiasts are going all gaga over the all-new Jimny, there are many artistic renderings of the Jimny online. But out of all of them, this one looks the most brute and mouth-watering. Rendered by SRK Designs, this is the 6X6 version of the Suzuki Jimny and it can turn a hundred heads on the road without even trying.

Suzuki Jimny Monster Truck Showcased At 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon

Think of the Suzuki Jimny and the adjectives that come to your mind are cute, sweet, pint-sized and the likes! But, at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, there was Jimny which was anything but the adjectives mentioned above! It was a wild, huge Suzuki Jimny in a monster truck avatar. It almost felt as if the regular Jimny was hit a solid blast of Gamma radiation and turned into the Hulk! Actually, the twisted brain behind this model was that of the Japanese tuner Shibata R31 House.

Suzuki Jimny FLUNKS the Moose test: We explain why [Video]

The Suzuki Jimny off roader has a lot of strengths off the road, and the legendary capability of the machine has been showcased time and again, at various off road courses. But on the road, the little off-roader isn’t the quickest turning cars. The moose test that was recently conducted on the Suzuki Jimny saw the off roader flunk it spectacularly, and the reason for this is quite easy to figure.

Suzuki Jimny To Be Axed In The UK By 2021

The new generation Suzuki Jimny was introduced in the UK in 2018, but it won't be on sale for long. It turns out that the stringent emission regulations for the UK aren't really something the new Jimny can comply with in the future, and that will leave Suzuki with no choice but to discontinue the model by 2021. The decision emerges as Maruti Suzuki, the company's Indian subsidiary is evaluating launching the model here and even showcased the off-roader at the 2020 Auto Expo back in February.

The problem lies with the fact that the current generation Suzuki Jimny emits about 154g/km from its 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is well above the average limit of 95g/km that the Suzuki fleet will have to meet in the future. This figure is for the manual version of the SUV, and goes higher at 170g/km for the automatic transmission version.

Suzuki Jimny axed from Europe over emissions regulations

01_30.jpg

Suzuki has confirmed that the Jimny off-roader will be removed from the European market later this year.

The Japanese manufacturer has stated that UK dealer supply will cease in the coming months, citing more stringent EU emissions regulations as the SUV’s cause of death.

Earlier this year, Suzuki said the Jimny would remain on sale in “very limited numbers” during 2020 and that the car would be pulled from the market in 2021. However, this date has been pulled forward, following the EU ruling that all car makers must ensure their vehicles emit no more than 95g/km of CO2, as an average across their fleet.

Exemptions exist for low-volume manufacturers and there are concessions such as super credits, which reward brands for selling pure electric cars. Car makers that produce heavier vehicles are also allowed to have higher fleet average emissions than those that produce light cars.

The Jimny’s relatively high CO2 emissions of between 154 and 170g/km, coupled with its low mass of 1,135kg, mean it's the latest car to fall foul of the regulations. This trend is one that also threatens Europe’s small-car market as a whole. The future of city cars looks increasingly shaky as firms struggle to balance high emissions and low kerb weights against the disproportionately expensive development costs and low profit margins of small cars.
