Ok.

As always people have difference of opinion and that the best part at TAI. Upon my request sales person sent a PPT to me which I am attaching in here. But somehow it is not getting uploaded thus used ms-paint as my savior. Please have a look and suggest.

NOTE: I am not promoting this product nor a sales person so please treat it as we all are doing it rather I am doing it. (Just wanted to clarify)

No I did not get a call from SA for the demo nor he answered my call (I tried once only though.)

Shailinder, the PPT seems to be pretty catchy. Marketting PPT's will always try to lure the customer. What happened to the demo that the SE told you? Did you get a chance to look into it?

Please look at the 2 certificates posted. You will see that

1. The Jadavpur Univ Certificate mentions a different company and the Navi Mumbai Muncipal Corp has given the same to a different company.

2. Pls see the date on the Jadavpur document. It is of 1999 vintage.

3. Since the Navi Mumbai Mun. Corp. fitted 6 devices on their vehicles last year (in Nov. 2010), have they placed any extra orders? If not, why not? If yes, how many?

4. All Internal Combustion Engines have been designed to burn their injected fuel completely. The Stoichiometric ratio is taken into consideration during the design stage and in fact the amount of air intake is much more than required to completely burn the injected fuel. The Fuel injectors take care of the fuel atomisation and the atomised fuel then vaporises easily to mix with the air. So basically if there was improper or incomplete combustion then the car would emit slightly Blackish smoke.

5. Please get an assurance in writing for a promised minimum fuel saving from the company.

6. Please be careful about additives for fuel as some may contain Acetone. Acetone definitely saves fuel but also emits soot which carbonises your Engine.

No. He did not revert so far. Nor I contacted them after trying once. Looks fishy to me. But still if calls, I would like to see the demo for sure.

Thanks Biddu for the wonderful piece of information. You notice the company names quite correctly. In fact, I did not check them and posted here so that we all can have a discussion and see whether such things really exists and serve the purpose.

Would surely update once I get something on it. Meanwhile, you people are requested to have an open eye and keep everyone updated here.

Don't fall for it, it won't work. Modern computer controlled engines with fuel injection are running as efficiently as possible if all the sensors etc are working as they should. You may see some small improvement with items like a more efficient air filter or exhaust system, but it won't be anywhere near 40%, more like 1 or 2% is more likely.

Surely these fuel-savers really are just scams.

Well it's amazing how much fuel you can save by doing a few simple things:
Properly inflate (or even over-inflate) your tires
Replace your air-cleaner at regular intervals
Make sure your engine is in a good state of tune
Make sure your wheels are properly aligned.

You might not believe it, but all 4 mentioned measures have a sound foundation. However, the execution is not as simple as they make it out.

Magnets: It is a known fact that fuel harmonisation does have a positive effect on flame front development, hence the potential of more efficiency exists. The problem in practical terms is that the effects are negated by the time the fuel has entered the combustion chamber because the magnets can't be positioned as needed when fitted as aftermarket.

Fuel additives: Depending on the fuel additive as well as the fuel being used, consumption casn improve as much as it can work adversely. This can be optimised by a custom re-map. Practical problem is that the fuel quality (brand) must be used accordingly and should not be altered.

turbulators: They are meant to add turbulences to the air flow, which in turn mixes the fuel better with the air. Result is a quicker combustion.The quicker combustion allows more energy used efficiently reducing the fuel consumption. In practical terms it is very difficult to create the wanted turbulences with an add on. In many cases the effects are worsening the consumption because of turbulences affecting airflow.

Tin does have a positive effect on combustion allowing higher compression. This is only of advantage when ignitiion timing be altered and compression can be increased.

This is not quite correct. The maps in modern ECUs are quite conservative allowing for a wide range of conditions. Fuel consumption can be improved further.

and the cost of these items is about 50,000/- which is more than enough

I am not defending any of the products on the market. I have a problem with rogue traders myself.

However, I do not dismiss the ideas as nonsense when the aren't.

Also savings are subject to perspective.

Commercial fleets would invest in Europe a lot of money to save even an average of 2%.

Measures that save 5% at a cost of 50,000 may be worth the while depending on the life span of the product. However 50,000 is more likely to be well over the average.

With my AIRs and re-maps combined on Diesel cars we save between 12 and 20% depending on the car at a cost of no more than 35.000

Also it needs to be considered what other advantages any means of such equipment has got. Some measures increase the life cycle of the engines.

In engineering terms things aren't as straight forward as it seems. All measures need to be brought in line with the application. Only then it can be decided whether it is a saving and/ or benefit or not.

Still, this does not justify rogue traders to exploit the genreal public.

I can only agree to this statement once all other improvements possibly within a set budget are made.

Sometimes in the 1990s Greenpeace asked a specialist to implement measures to a standard Renault Twingo without getting the car turned into something completely new and it had to keep all the features it came with. The result was a fuel saving of just under 60%

Two years ago 9ff in connection re-worked a Golf 1.9TD Mk6 to a 34kpl car without sacrificing comfort and having to fulfill homologation requirements of the TUV.

My work has saved over the years many thousands of tons of fuel for all my customers. And many other tuners can claim the same.

I the conclusion was so easy then manufacturers would have found wisdom's last conclusion. But there is too much to it to have it as simple as this. You might think that I am very vague, but then you are not as deeply involved in the automotive technology and the research as me for so many years.

It is surprising what even in these days can be done to improve fuel consumption.

I have also heard about fuel saving devices, to make fuel efficient cars. If such device can actually save fuel about 5% to 40% than off course it is a good invention. If it really works, than why not such devices are built-in in the vehicles by the manufacturer itself. With this we can make out it is not possibly going to work.
If anyone tried and had a positive experience with such devices then please share it, so that everyone is benefited with such invention.
