Hindustan Motors to launch BS IV-compliant Ambassador

Hindustan Motors (HM), a C K Birla Group firm, will launch a new model of its iconic car Ambassador, powered by a 1.5 litre BS IV-compliant diesel engine.

The crisis-ridden auto manufacturer has displayed the new model with BS IV diesel engine to Kolkata's taxi associations at its plant, a company statement said today.

Some HM dealers also drove the new model of its car on the test track to get a feeling of the forthcoming model, the auto maker said.

According to the company, it will soon introduce the BS IV complaint model with a new name in the market

HM has plans to introduce the new BS IV Ambassador in 17 17 metropolitan cities where sale of BS III cars had been banned from April 2010.

yak... I guess nobody other than Kolkata cab's are buying it (they are forced..).
it is a vintage, give it a vintage tag, run it on vintage rally, Why you want to sell as mainstream? or if you are really kin to.. make a fiat 500/beetle of it.
(I know the employees are enjoying "govt job" in every term, just give it to any component car maker.. and let them do the wonder.. or shut the shop please)

Hindustan Motors ready to launch BS4 Amby diesel with a new name

Hindustan Motors announced yesterday that they are ready to launch the BS4 diesel variant of the Hindustan Ambassador very soon.

Hindustan Motors is currently launching the BS4 diesel in one engine specification only. It will be available with a 1.5-liter four cylinder diesel engine, while the 2.0-liter diesel engine stays in BS3 spec.

The current 1.5-liter BS3 variant produces about 35.5bhp of power and 7.44kgm of torque. Expect the power and torque outputs to remain the same or be improved slightly in the BS4 variant. The transmission is expected to be the same 5-speed gearbox.

Interestingly, HM says that the BS4 version will be launched with a new name. HM has also previewed the BS4 Ambassador for the Kolkata taxi association, who happen to have the Ambassador’s largest fan base and buyers.

By having a BS4 compliant 1.5-liter diesel engine, HM can look forward to availing small car excise benefits for the sub 4 meter Ambassador variant, which we think will also launch in 2013.

[clown]Someone please explain the meaning of word' launch to these Birlas .

BS 4 means addition of a catalytic converter to the exaust system, cost 35 k Rs approx and nothing else. The why the hell they are changing the name ? Only addition of the suffix BS 4 was enough.

@Desire , BS 4 i.e. addition of the catalytic converter leads to marginal decrease in power and performance due to back pressure applied by the filters of converter on the exaust gas and theirby on the engine.
