The MPV market in India may be shrinking but Renault aren’t giving up. A recently revealed slide (part of the manufacturer’s ‘Drive the Future’ mid-term plan from 2017 to 2022) indicates a compact MPV lined up for our market, though no date is given. The silhouette shows the Dacia Dokker, essentially a shortened Lodgy that’s sold in a few international markets.

However our sources tell us the vehicle (code RBC) will be an all new MPV specifically developed for India and based on the low cost CMF-A platform that also underpins the Kwid. A source in know of the companys plans said “It has to be an all new vehicle as we have tried the route of modifying an existing one but had little success” hinting at the GO Plus.

The MPV will have three rows of seats with seating for seven and our sources also tell us that it will sit below the current best seller Ertiga. The company is quite bullish on the achieving Kwid like success as unlike the vans in that price bracket, Renault’s MPV will have a prominent nose structure lending it a better image and acceptability in our market. The nose structure is important as the new vehicle will also need to pass the stringent crash norms which would be difficult with a van like flat front.

The MPV segment in India has proved to be a tough market to succeed in; sales are shrinking and most manufacturers have either discontinued their models or have dropped plans to introduce new ones. Renault too have had little success with their Lodgy MPV that currently only sells about 400 units per month but the company believes there is still potential in the segment.

2018 Renault MPV (Renault RBC) imagined – Rendering

After the Renault Captur next month, Renault will launch an MPV (codename: Renault RBC) in India next year. IAB’s automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania has created a speculative rendering of the 2018 Renault MPV.

2018-Renault-MPV-Renault-RBC-rendering.jpg

The Renault RBC may have the grille layout, headlamps and tail lamps inspired by those of the company’s European MPVs such as the Renault Scenic and Renault Espace for a contemporary front and rear. So that the MPV qualifies as a small car and attracts lower taxes, Renault will keep its length under four metres. The wheelbase will take up most of the length, leaving very short overhangs at the front and rear. The interior may look quite similar to that of the Renault Kwid.

The Renault RBC will ride on a modified version of the CMF-A platform – CMF-A+. The new MPV will have a wheelbase longer than the Renault Kwid’s (2,422 mm). Renault could offer it with the 1.0-litre SCe petrol engine that produces 68 PS and 91 Nm of torque. Transmission choices may include 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual.

The Renault RBC will compete with the Datsun GO+ in the entry-level MPV space, slotting below the Maruti Ertiga. Its prices could start at around INR 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Renault intends to achieve Kwid-like success with the sub-4 metre MPV.

Renault RBC Low-Cost MPV Spied Testing in Chennai

Renault’s low-cost MPV for India is in advanced stages of development and a fully camouflaged near-production-ready prototype has been spotted testing very near to Renault-Nissan Alliance’s plant in Oragadam (Chennai). The MPV which is based on an extended version (CMF-A+) of the Renault Kwid’s platform will compete in a niche which is currently populated only by the sister brand Datsun’s Go+.

An attractive styling, spacious interior, and heavy localization (read attractive pricing) would help the new Renault RBC (codename) make a strong case for itself. The design language appears to be in line with the French automaker’s global identity. We expect production version of the people mover to look something like a smaller Renault Scenic that is popular in European markets.

Thanks to the CMF-A+ platform, the new Renault MPV will feature a longer wheelbase than the Kwid. From the prototype, we can see that the wheels are placed on the corners in a bid to ease up as much interior space as possible for three rows of seats. With all the three-rows in usage, luggage space would be at a premium.

The spyshot also clearly shows that the Renault RBC’s bonnet is very compact, meaning only low-displacement motors can fit in it. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor which serves the top-end Kwid emerges as the most likely candidate but its 68 PS and 91 Nm of torque output wouldn’t cut it. The motor is expected to receive a turbocharger to handle the additional payload.

Renault-Nissan Alliance doesn’t have a diesel engine that is small enough to slip into RBC’s cramped engine bay. Moreover, the company never really was excited about a diesel engine option for the CMF-A family of cars. In addition to a standard 5-speed manual gearbox, the Renault mini MPV is also expected to offer AMT.

With an expected starting price in the ballpark of I–Rs 4.5-4.75 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Renault RBC would have the potential to lure prospective customers from other segments with a promise of additional passenger carrying capacity. It could rival the upcoming Maruti WagonR 7 seater MPV upon launch in India.

Re: Renault RBC Low-Cost MPV Spied Testing in Chennai

In the first instance it looks as tall as current Ertiga or Innova. However if the engines are not powerful it wont be of any use.

Re: Renault RBC Low-Cost MPV Spied Testing in Chennai

At my place, I can see many Maruti's, Hyundai's, Tata's (Tiago, Tigor & Nexon), some Honda's & some Mahindras' but very very few Renault cars [surprise]

Are there marketing strategy is not up to the mark comparing others or they are unable to compete with others in terms of product quality??

Renault RBC (Datsun GO+ rival) spotted again, to go on sale in 2019

While the Renault Espace taps the high-end MPV segment with its captivating design and upmarket features, the RBC will sit at the exact opposite of the spectrum serving as a low-cost people carrier for emerging markets like India. Renault has confirmed that the latter will measure no longer than 4,000 mm, to take benefit of the local tax structure.

The Renault RBC will ride on a modified version of the Renault Kwid’s platform (CMF-A) called ‘CMF-A+’. It will have a longer wheelbase (2,422 mm+) for a roomier cabin. The third-row seats may accommodate only children comfortably, as is the case in the Datsun GO+.

Keeping in mind the Lodgy and the Kwid’s 0-star ASEAN NCAP rating and the Datsun GO+’s 1-star Global NCAP rating, as well as the more stringent safety norms that become effective in 2019, Renault will take the RBC’s safety aspect more seriously. In addition to having a more robust cell, the MPV may feature driver and co-driver SBRs, driver airbag, ABS with EBD and speed alert system as standard.

The 1.0-litre SCe naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine (68 PS/91 Nm) would run out of the breath handling the extra load of passengers or luggage. So, it is widely speculated that adding a turbocharger for better performance could become the optimal solution. Do note that none of the Renault-Nissan Alliance models (made in India) is available with a turbocharged petrol engine. A diesel engine option is unlikely.

The Renault RBC will go on sale in India in 2019, with prices possibly starting at around INR 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Renault RBC MPV – Ertiga rival – Spotted Testing [Video]
The test mule seen in Gurgaon sported regular steel wheels similar to the ones seen on other test vehicles in the past. The heavily camouflaged MPV features very short overhangs, which show Renault’s priority to increase space on the inside. Considering how large the MPV seems to be in the video, expect passengers in both rows at the back to get an ample amount of legroom when the RBC finally goes on sale.

Renault RBC (Datsun GO+ rival) interior spy images confirm AMT option
Renault RBC, the new Datsun GO+ rival that will launch next year, has been spotted undergoing road tests by Team-BHP member Chandra Prakash Sinha. The spy shots captured by the cars potter shows the future model's interior for the first time.
renault-rbc-images-interior-steering-wheel-touchsc-c10e.jpg

The spy images have revealed that the RBC features a sporty leather-wrapped flat-bottomed steering wheel with a faux silver trim, white detailing on the instrument cluster, a two-tone beige-black dashboard, and an AMT gear lever that comes from the Renault Duster parts bin.The Renault RBC will become the brand's first MPV to feature an AMT when launched. Its front facade is expected to mimic that of the Renault Espace to some extent, with features like V-shaped front grille, sleek headlamps and C-shaped LED DRLs. Other details styling details include roof rails, five-spoke steel wheels, and horizontally positioned wraparound tail lamps.Underpinning the Renault RBC is a bigger version of the Kwid's CMF-A platform, which is called the CMF-A+. The maxed-out architecture will offer a longer wheelbase that should help with the accommodation of the three rows of seats. Reportedly, the new model will be powered by a turbocharged version of the Kwid's 1.0-litre SCe three-cylinder petrol engine. The company doesn't have a low-displacement diesel engine suitable for its new MPV and developing a new oil-burner makes little sense owing to the BS6 norms being around the corner as well as the fast-dwindling popularity of entry-level diesel-powered cars. Transmission options will include 5-speed manual and Easy-R automated manual.

The new Renault MPV will have premium dual-tone interiors, with a subtle dose of chrome, and its steering wheel is likely to be shared with the Captur. It will also feature a large touchscreen system, at least on the higher variants.

7-Seater Renault RBC Could Be Priced Aggressively At Around Rs. 4.8 Lakh

Several reports have indicated that the Renault RBC will be priced around Rs. 4.8 lakh (ex-showroom). This will make it more affordable than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga as its main rival could only be the Datsun GO Plus that received a major facelift late last year. We can expect the RBC to be more premium than its Japanese cousin.

The seven-seater will come with V-shaped front radiator grille with LED signature lights, sharp headlamps, LED tail lamps, tall pillars for ensuring good interior space for the occupants, newly designed front and rear bumpers, and so on. The MPV is based on the updated version of the CMF-A architecture that underpins the Kwid.

Renault RBC 7 seater MPV for India spied – Front, side, rear view detailed

renault-rbc-mpv-india-spied-launch-price-7-seater-5.jpg

The Renault RBC will be company’s second offering in the MPV segment after the Lodgy. Spy shots reveal that the MPV is in the final stage of tests, with launch scheduled for later this year. Expected to be a sub 4 meter MPV, the RBC will sit above the Kwid and below the Duster in company line up. The new Renault RBC MPV is positioned on the CMF-A+ platform, which contributes to a longer wheelbase and thereby added interior space, easy ingress and egress to third row seats. The side view reveals that the car has very little rear overhang, this could be because of trying to get the MPV in under 4 meter category.
