Renault gears up for the Lodgy launch. Expect the price to slot between the Ertiga and Mobilio.

The Renault Lodgy is all set to join the MPV race in India and take on the Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio when it goes on sale in January 2015.

The Renault Lodgy, which rides on a 2.8-metre long wheelbase, is distinctly bigger than both the Ertiga and the Mobilio. It also offers greater room in the crucial third row.
Powering the Lodgy will be the tried and tested Renault K9K 1.5 turbo diesel engine in its 85bhp guise. In fact, Renault has heavily localised this version of the engine to bring costs down. The more powerful 110bhp won’t be offered at launch and may only come a few years down the line when the Lodgy is due for a facelift.
Renault has revamped the exteriors and interiors of the Lodgy for the Indian market. The original Dacia design was seen as too basic for Indian tastes and the localised model will get a new grille and some styling tweaks to spruce up the looks. On the inside, an-all new dashboard and plusher materials have been used to make the Lodgy feel more upmarket. A lot of the interior bits like the switchgear, infotainment display and instruments, will be shared with the Duster, to keep costs in check.

Renault will sure make Maruti & Honda run for their brands, if price band is maintained. Even Toyota & Mahindra might loose a bit of chunk if Lodgy is introduced with modern features.

Duster had a luck it was first in crossover class & Lodgy has readymade rivals already which are selling like hot cake.

If priced correctly this product will do wonders in Indian market.
No doubt Renault is having a sure shot winner in its hands and I guess this is the right time to launch it because the UVs are selling well now.

On the other hand, I think it would give stiff competition to Innova also.
Actually both rivals - Maruti Ertiga & Honda Mobilio - are selling like hot cakes but still not able to make big dent in Innova sales. That means it has compromised sales of sedans in similar price range (8-12 lacs).

Renault Lodgy spied again,
The spy-shots also gives a glimpse of the Lodgy's interiors. Beneath the partial camouflage inside, the chrome-ringed instrument cluster with three circular dials, the three-spoke steering wheel with integrated buttons, the circular air-conditioner vents and the two-tone dashboard in black and beige are clearly seen. The images also give a good perspective to assess the space on offer in the front and the middle rows. On first sight, the Lodgy appears to be more spacious than its potential rivals in India that include Toyota Innova, Honda Mobilio, Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Xylo. Closer inspection also reveals a center armrest in the middle row with inbuilt cup holders and adjustable head restraints in the front and middle rows.

If this is like Ertiga/Mobilio and under 4 metre then the 3rd row will be as cramped as the others. So it may not be a MPV after all
