Shocking but true - the world's highest motorable road recently saw a Formula 1 car driving upto it. Red Bull Racing's Formula 1 racing car was driven up from Leh all the way to the 18 , 380 feet high Khardung La pass in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. This makes Red Bull Racing the first Formula One team to have ever managed to transport , fire-up and drive an F1 car on what is arguably the most challenging driving terrain in the world. Neel was also greeted along the way by the Honourable Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir , Mr. Omar Abdullah. He flagged off a part of the historic journey , which represents an impressive engineering and logistical achievement. Ofcourse there were modifications to the car including the tyres you see in a few pictures. That said, this is nothing short of an amazing feat achieved by Red Bull and the whole team. source - Red Bull's F1 car scales Khardung La Pass! - Gaadi.com Blog

It's highly impossible to travel on such roads by F1, it may be promotional event.
I am guessing they transported the car to that pass & just drove it for a few 100 metres

You know what I would love to see, they say an F1 car above 180kmph can have enough downforce to drive upside down,I would love to see they try that in like some long tunnel or anyother place suitable. That would be like epic & historic!!!!!!

It is promotional for sure, marvelous example of engineering though, hats off to F1 people.

I agree. At least they have tried to show something to the world. Good work F1 / Red Bull [cheers]
Yes this was the idea behind the effort. Through this show, Red Bull showcased their commitment to motor sport and in the mean while earned some marketing brownie points in the India [:D]

Hey, saw this in NDTV / Times Now last evening. They did drive it for 40 km up those slopes to reach Khardungla. The Red Bull reserve driver was driving and he was driving it at some speed. The road on which he drove was reasonably tarmaced but he was pushing the car over the corners and one slip would have found him 3000 ft below.

He said the challenges were tyre changes and fuel as they needed to refuel.
