Purchased my third external HDD, WD 1TB. Slightly larger and heavier than my current WD Passport and looks boxy. Data transfer speed is at par with the current one.
Price : 69.99 pounds (is this the current price in India?)

I just checked out some webpage for the price of the WD 1TB HDD. Even in india, the cost is almost the same.

I bought myself 1TB Western Digital today.
After hard bargaining got it for 4,800 INR.
It works well with my Samsung LED Tv.
All the movies are just plug & play.

Another 500 GB as gift to my cousin for 2700.

Heard that prices of External HDD have shot up of late. Not sure how true is that. Getting a deal on Segate 500 GB External Hard Disk for Rs.4,000. How does it sounds?

I have transcend 320 gb for 4years without any trouble, have seagate 1tb for past 1year no problem again. Brought 1 tb seagate backup plus today for about 100 USD in Taiwan . My view is all the standard companies are equally good. Any Hard drive just be careful not to drop it !

I would suggest going with the Seagate, Toshiba or Western Digital.

Both WD and Toshiba are really good as i have been using both of them. I had a 500 gb WD which i just gave to one of my cousin and currently i am using a 750 gb Toshiba so both of these work really well and both of them are 3.0 USB.

Here.
Last year's floods in Thailand had extreme effect on price of HDDs. I had got my 500GB HDD for around 1k, which costs around 4k now. The prices may have come down now a bit, but still its not a good time to buy a HDD. :)

If you want to buy external hard drives check them out on Ebay.com not.in during November. You might get lucky and find a lot of US sellers selling HD's for a very good price.

WD any day better than Sea gate, i watch movies on my Samsung LED TV, with Seagate(of my cousin) the movies used to struck in between.
But with WD it seamlessly plays without interruption.
Accessing time is faster in WD.

That was the deciding factor for me to go for WD.

Look for USB 3.0 version minimum.
