We(R.O.A.D GROUP-A Group of Automobile Enthusiasts ) were planning for a One Day Trip for sometime now. And the destination was decided as Gangani-The grand canyon of West Bengal. Its approx 180 kms from Kolkata situated at West Medinipur District of West Bengal. The Travel Group consisted of Approx. 30 members.
Reached Dhulagarh Toll at 6:30 a.m where fellow members were waiting for others. Had a small chitchat session regarding the plans for the day. As other members arrived, we moved to New tarama Hotel, Kolaghat for breakfast.
After sumptous breakfast we all headed for Gangani at about 10 a.m. Smooth roads throughout except few rough pathches and local traffic in few village crossings. Reached gangani at about 12:30 p.m. Last 2-3 kms were no roads .
With the Shilabati river flowing through a 70ft-deep gorge and the adjoining places taking the form of different shapes and figures because of erosion, it’s a treat to the eye. The formations on the wall of the gorge spreading from east to west are something similar to the archaeological sculptures of Ajanta and Ellora but the only difference is that the ones at Gangani were not created by human hand. There was a pagoda-shaped formation that caught my attention even from a distance. Unless known beforehand one would never be able to identify that it was an effect of erosion on rocks, not a manmade shrine! It’s really astonishing how effortlessly nature can make such creations.
Had a great time exploring the caves and river bed(though the humidity was too much to our liking). One of our members Biswadeep had brought is 4WD Scorpio and it went all the way till River Bed. Also one of members had brought a Drone and it was fun watching the beautiful landscape of Gangani in his drone.
Left Gangani at about 2:30 p.m and headed towards Taaz Biriyani, Kharagpur for lunch(late lunch though). Taaz Biriyani is famous for Biriyani and associated items in this region of Bengal. It is situated adjacent to Kharagpur railway Station. Had awesome Mutton Biriyani there. Would recommend this place to everyone visiting Kharagpur.
Left kharagpur at about 5:15 p.m and reached kolkata at 7:30 p.m. Encountered heavy rains while returning. Had a great time exploring new places with like minded people. Looking forward to our next drive. Till then.... Cheers!!!!![drive][drive][drive]

Hi Sourav, Nice crisp write up and great set of pictures.

It was an event conceptualized, initiated, implemented and attended by the group R.O.A.D Revv On And Drive, and was great way to unwind on Biswkarma Puja

But great writing and nice clicks. Post some more pictures if you have.

Thank you Chandra Da. It was indeed a great way to unwind. And it was a rather different kind of Vishwakarma Puja spent. Time well spent with fellow R.O.A.D Members.

Thank you Sumitro Da.. We also missed you during the event(especially during Biswadeep's mild offroading session in river bank:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:)

Indeed a very good trip. Everything was just perfect - the breakfast, the view at Gangani, the late lunch at Tazz (was just too good for the price) and the return drive (really heavy rains). Look forward for such drives in the future.
