India Today reports to have received confirmation that Nissan will launch the Nissan Kicks compact SUV in India in 2017. The Nissan Kicks is slated to be sold in South American markets, initially.

Nissan has dropped a teaser of the production Kicks, and has confirmed its mass production at the Resende Industrial Complex in Brazil. It is expected to be unveiled at the 2016 Olympics in August, where Nissan is one of the major sponsors.
Technical details on the Nissan Kicks are scarce at this moment. Insiders have told Brazilian websites that the Kicks is based on Nissan’s V-Platform which supports the Micra and Sunny, and will pack a 1.8-liter Flex engine mated to a manual gearbox or a CVT. Note that Nissan’s V-Platform is highly localized in the Indian market, which would help the company in leveraging costs.

the new Nissan Kicks anyway is presented in an event for the press. The model goes on sale in August 5, on the opening day of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, an event that will serve as a great showcase for the world premiere of Kicks and Nissan, the official sponsor of the games. The model, however, won't begin to be produced at the plant of Resende (RJ) immediately.

It is expected that the Kicks have starting price at 70 1000 R$ to be at the same level of Honda HR-V and Jeep Renegade.

looks awesome. Seems 2017 is a year to watch out for Suvs. Mods any idea what would be the expected price? Seems like this is compact SUV and would compete with Brezza and Ecosport.

Nissan to launch Kicks SUV in Q3 2018

The Nissan Kicks SUV, which made its global debut in 2016 in Brazil will be launched in India in the third quarter of 2018, according company sources.

nissan-kicks-release-images.jpg

However, unlike the South American model, which is spun off Nissan’s V-platform, the made-for-India Kicks (code: PB1D) will be based on the upcoming Renault Kaptur’s (code: HHA) platform. This is essentially a modified version of Renault’s proven M0 platform that underpins cars like the Duster and Lodgy, which are known for their robust mechanicals.

The M0 is also a critical part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s platform strategy in India, which is essentially centred around two platforms. Whilst the CMF-A and CMF-A+ platforms underpin Renault and Nissan’s (and later Mitsubishi’s) small mid-size car range in India, the M0 platform will cater higher end products. The low-cost M0 platform has proved be a cash cow Renault globally and is ideally suited markets like India. The alliance’s European-spec CMF-B platform was also evaluated initially but was eventually rejected as it proved be a lot more expensive than the M0 which has also been localised over the years.

Developed and conceived originally by Renault its Dacia sub-brand over a decade ago, the French carmaker has first rights products spun off the M0 platform, and hence, like the Nissan Terrano which followed the Renault Duster, the Nissan Kicks too will follow the Renault Kaptur to India but almost a year later.

While both the Kaptur and Kicks will use the same modified version of the platform, the ‘top hats’ will be completely different. The Kicks design and styling will mirror the South American car and that’s no bad thing.

Sharply styled, with lots of distinctive design touches like a floating roof, massive wheel arches and a wraparound visor look, the Kicks won’t have a problem standing out on Indian roads. The good thing is that the edgy design hasn’t compromised practicality and Nissan claims best-in-class space in the back seat.

Cars based on the M0 platform get a choice of just two engines, a 1.6 petrol and the venerable 1.5 K9K diesel, and hence these are likely to be carried forward into the Kicks as well. The 1.5 diesel is expected to be the mainstay but it's likely that in its latest iteration there will be a small bump up in power and torque.

Nissan has set an ambitious target of 30,000 Kicks in its first full year of production with an additional 20,000 units earmarked for exports. Pricing will be crucial for the Kicks’ success and Nissan may do well to undercut its rivals to buy some much needed market share.

Nissan Kicks will be powered by a 1.5 liter dCi diesel engine in India. This engine will offer 110 PS power and 245 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. Its 1.5 liter petrol engine will be capable of 106 PS power and 142 Nm torque which is also found on the Renault Duster and Captur. Like Renault Captur, the Nissan Kicks will also be offered with an All Wheel Drive option.

On launch in India, Nissan Kicks will have a list of contenders among which are the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster and Captur, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, the soon to be launched Kia SP concept based SUV, Volkswagen T-Cross, Maruti Suzuki Vitara and the Skoda made for India SUV.

New Nissan Kicks SUV for India teased before launch – Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta rival

The India spec Nissan Kicks will be different from the model sold in global markets. Its launch is planned for January 2018 and it will be tweaked to suit Indian road and driving conditions. To keep costs low, we will not get the expensive and refined V platform, which forms the basis of Kicks in Europe.

Instead, we will get the same Renault-Nissan affordable B0 platform, which also underpins the Duster, Terrano and Captur. Nissan Kicks will be a direct rival to Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the upcoming Tata Harrier upon launch in India. It is already on sale many countries, with plans to go on sale in over 80 global markets in the coming months, which also includes India. Below is the first teaser image of India-spec Kicks.

nissan-kicks-india-sketch-launch-2.jpg

Thanks to this India-spec platform, the Kicks will be seen with more interior space. It will boast of a funky design so as to attract buyers among a younger and more adventurous segment of society in the country. It will be seen with a revised front fascia, more distinctive front grille and flared wheel arches. Exterior features will also include a floating roofline in a dual color scheme, large alloy wheels, bold bumper design and swept back headlamps with LEDs and boomerang shaped tail lamps.

Internationally, Nissan Kicks measures 4,295mm in length, 1,760mm in width and 1,590mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,610mm and ground clearance of 200mm. More cabin and luggage space will be seen on its India spec model which will also be equipped with some features and components borrowed from the Renault Captur crossover.

New dual tone interior color scheme, premium upholstery, flat bottomed leather wrapped steering wheel with controls, automatic climate controls and a 7.0” touchscreen infotainment system with all round view monitor will be seen in its interiors.

In India, Nissan Kicks will get 1.5 liter petrol and diesel engine options, same as the one’s seen on Duster and Captur. The petrol engine will produce 104 bhp power and 142 Nm torque while the diesel engine will offer 108 bhp power and 240 Nm torque. The petrol engine will get mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox and the diesel engine will get a 6 speed manual. Nissan could also introduce an automatic variant of the SUV in India.

Re: Nissan Kicks Compact SUV Coming To India in 2017

Nissan Kicks official India unveil date revealed: Hyundai Creta challenger

Nissan’s Creta challenger, the Kicks is ready to kickstart its Indian innings soon. According to Team-Bhp, the media launch of the compact SUV will be held on October 18, 2018 in Mumbai. Dealerships have also been notified that the Kicks is expected to be finally launched in January 2019. The new SUV will be a Hyundai Creta rival.

The stylish mid-level offering from Nissan has been developed specifically for the Indian market and is quiet different from the global version. The Indian spec model will use the B-Zero platform instead of the V platform which underpins the global version.

The B-Zero platform is the same one which is employed upon other Nissan-Renault vehicles like the Duster, the Terrano and the Captur. Also, the Kicks that will be sold here is set to be bigger than the ones sold abroad, which has a slightly shorter wheelbase. This is to make it large enough to rival the Hyundai Creta.

Another area of difference between the international-spec Nissan and Indian spec SUV is in terms of powerplant. The international version draws power from 1.5 and 1.6-litre petrol engines. The Kicks for India, on the other hand, is expected to come with the engines found in the Renault Captur sold here.

The Captur is powered by petrol and diesel engines, both displacing 1.5-litres. The petrol engine is produces 104.5 Bhp of power and 142 Nm of torque whereas the diesel unit churns out 108.5 Bhp of power and 240 Nm of torque.A 6-speed manual gearbox will be standard although it remains to be seen if an AMT option is also offered.

On the exterior front, the car features a V-shaped grille up front and large sweptback headlamps. It also sports a dual-tone front bumper along with a silver scuff plate and rectangular fog lamps. Flared wheel arches and raked rear windshield add up to the overall looks of the car. The rear side of the Kicks also features wraparound tail lights.

On the inside, it is expected that the car could come with dual-tone interiors along with an infotainment screen which will sit at the centre of the dashboard. The steering wheel could be a meaty 3-spoke multi-function unit. It is also likely to be offered with a 360-degree camera among other features.

Although nothing is confirmed yet of how Nissan would position the vehicle, we expect that the Kicks would be priced between Rs. 10-14.5 lakhs. Its main rivals will be the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Captur. Though this compact SUV looks promising enough, it remains to be seen how it will fare in the highly competitive Indian market.
