New one definitely has loads of potential to give Fortuner sleepless nights provided if it's priced right
Fortuner sales withh remain unaffected . The rexton will sell well but it won't disturb the fortuner market .

MAHINDRA LAUNCHES THE 2012 SSANGYONG REXTON W SUV IN SOUTH AFRICA; INDIA NEXT?

For the South African market, the SUV is available in two variants, a standard 5 seat version and a deluxe 7 seater model. The SUV is priced at South African Rand 349,995 and 389,995 for the Standard and Deluxe models respectively.

This translates to INR 22.76 lakhs for the Rexton Standard and INR 25.36 lakhs for the Rexton Deluxe. Interestingly, the Ssangyong Rexton that is sold in South Africa is imported into that country as a completely built unit. This means that the SUV is slapped with a high import duty. The Indian version however, will be assembled through completely knocked down(CKD) kits at Mahindra’s Chakan plant. The CKD assembly will mean that the Rexton SUV could be priced at about INR 18 lakhs in India, which is a competitive price indeed, for the Rexton will compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

The 2012 Rexton W SUV is expected to be launched in India in the next couple of months, ahead of the Indian festival of lights, Diwali. Meanwhile, here is the full range of features offered on the 2012 Ssangyong Rexton W SUV sold in South Africa.

Ssangyong prepares defense versions of Rexton and Korando for South Korea

The cars are selected by South Korea’s Department of Defense to be inducted into various law and order institutions.

According to Ssangyong, the Rexton’s off road ability and the Korando’s structural steel frame endured the durability and suitability assessment of military operations and hence the cars were easily chosen by the South Korean government.

The South Korean automaker who is under the ownership of Mahindra will deliver around 350 units of the defense UVs to the South Korean government. The cars will serve various public organizations like the Air Force, National Police Agency, Korea Highway Corporation, National Emergency Management Agency and also will be used as Defense Command vehicles.

The defense-spec vehicles will be fitted with driver and passenger airbags, AC, automatic transmission and front obstacle detection system as standard.

Ssangyong is expected to supply around 3,000 such vehicles to the South Korean Department of Defense by 2018.

Given the long standing association of the parent company Mahindra with defense systems and vehicles for Indian government, defense vehicles from Ssangyong could also serve the Indian defense forces in the future.
