I am not sure about the build quality of MS but they are selling craps and people in INDIA buy it with a proud without even thinking of the safety factor.

In INDIA when people buy car they first think of CAR and then features. Safety may be important for few buyer's. But in developed countries safety comes first then comfort, features and so on...

Now a days MS is selling anything and people are buying. So is Jimny is lucky then you will see in huge numbers.

Whatever be the outcome of this unending speculation, this car won't sell much in numbers just because of only 2 doors. Forget about other parameters like boxy look etc.
Zen carbon was a very nice car, but never sold in good numbers due to impracticality.

IMO, Thar would continue to a better seller!
Considering that this will have better interiors/ Safety Kit and upmarket feel I believe this will be a good competition to the likes of Thar and Gurkha.
Not to mention the high reliability of Maruti behind it !!

This will make the core off roader's segment interesting !

I really don't think we should consider the JDM variant's equivalent features to trickle down in the version for India. Right now Maruti is not offering curtain airbags in any of its cars and I doubt the Jimny will be launched with it. Same with many other features like automatic high beam control, collision avoidance system, heated ORVMs and other ADAS systems.
I just hope after the strip down the car will continue with at lease 2 airbags in all variants and TCS.

Absolutely, two air bags/ ABS are good enough for Indian road, compared to Thar where you get none of those( Specially for the price tag that it carries, 1 Million +) !

If this get capable 4x4 with low transfer then it will be very capable for exploring remote places like Laddak. Also its size make it perfect for the narrow roads in Leh ladak manali region. It will sell like hot cake

Thank you Nairrk, for the Jimny videos. They were really focused, without any unnecessary frills. Far better than the numerous speculative posts on the thread![:D]

Having been used to the strengths & weaknesses of the 2004 non-CRDE Scorpio (body on chassis structure, rear leaf springs) for the past many years, it is a relief that MSIL is planning to introduce the Jimny (the updated version) to India. For me, the frills (connectivity, entertainment system and even some of the so-called safety features - air-bags leading this brigade!) are of not much interest. Of much greater interest are the hard-ware (4WD with traction control & ESP, low ratio transfer case) featured in the video. If they do provide these in the Indian market, then with Maruti's expected VFM pricing strategy, they should have a real killer in their line-up!

N.B. - I picked air-bags for special mention as a frill, because (as I have highlighted elsewhere in this and other forums) the incidence of failure of air-bags deployment in real-life accident scenarios (as distinct from the beautifully choreographed safety videos with dummies getting knocked about in slow motion, while their "lives" are being saved by airbags inflating splendidly in time!) are very much a matter of concern, as documented in various articles on the subject. In our country air-bags are the current flavour of the season, with everyone racing to keep up with the Jones' next door.

2018 Suzuki Jimny gets Mercedes G Class inspired body kit – Looks Baby G Wagon?

The new Suzuki Jimny has got the entry level SUV buyers abuzz ever since it has been launched in Japan. Enthusiasts have been waiting the world over, especially in India for this mini SUV, which many fondly refer to as the baby G Wagon, all thanks to its looks.

Now, a kit builder has come forwarded and officially launched Mercedes G Class inspired kit for the New Suzuki Jimny. The kit has been launched by Liberty Walk. Its founder Wataru Kato has shared the first image of how a Jimny would look after it is fitted with the kit designed by him. Take a look at the image below.

If the regular Jimny did leave any stone unturned to get inspired by the Mercedes G Class, all those have been turned over by this new body kit. In the front you have the bumper and air intakes, headlight design, all of which closely resemble the G Class.

On the sides, there are flared wheel arches, adding to the car’s SUV looks. Then there are new alloy wheels, which are larger than regular ones. You also get side steps, there are fog lights on the roof, and some more add-ons. Bookings of this kit is open. Price of this new kit has not been revealed.

Speaking about the launch of Jimny in India – Maruti Suzuki has not announced any update yet. But reports online are abuzz with rumors stating that the Jimny SUV could be launched in India as early as 2019. The reason – because the Gypsy (2nd gen Jimny), which is on sale in India, will be discontinued by 1st October 2019 as it will not meet Bharat NCAP crash test safety rating. (all cars which are currently on sale in India, and fail to meet Bharat NCAP norms, will be discontinued from 1st Oct 2019)

This makes a strong case for Maruti to launch the Jimny here, especially so many fans and enthusaists have already shown interest in the car.

What a pity that no source has come forward with confirmed news about a 4/5 door version of the new Jimny - apart from the usual computer artists' renderings, brilliant tho' these are. And 2-door models (Tata Sierra & Gypsy come to mind) have traditionally remained fringe players in India. The gypsy particularly remains the domain of the "serious off-roaders" community in India - with ancient examples being modded out of recognition to participate in the RFCs & other "challenges"!

With such a background, MSL certainly needs to give serious thought to the issue - whether to introduce it here or not, at least in its 2-door avatar.

Very sad news coming in - Jimny has been ruled out for the Indian market considering low sales volume in that segment. They have also ruled out swift sport for india owing to high Price thereby low volumes..

It makes me wonder does a Company only consider volumes and high profits as a decision maker ?? Will they not think on the lines of Brand Image or so ?

They cant attract young population by launching Ignis and labelling it is as a car for Millenials - Only a swift sport or Jimny can do that job !

The exact Jimny might not be worth for Indian market however with changes it can be launched as a good offering for off-roaders & enthusiasts so CBU or CKD route is out of sight.

As per Maruti's standard, it will never meet the sales expectations. So they might not think of launching it in India [anger]

Suzuki Jimny SUV (4th gen Gypsy) crash tested – Gets 3 star safety rating

Suzuki revealed the new generation Jimny earlier this year. The Suzuki Jimny and Jimny Sierra have been launched in Japan, in three variants and priced from 14,58,000 JPY (Rs 9 lakhs) and more recently in South Africa markets. However, launch in India is not on the cards even though it was expected that this sub 4 meter, 2 door SUV will be a successor to the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.

All new 4th generation of Suzuki Jimny has been crash tested in Europe. The compact SUV has scored a 3 star rating for adult safety. The version crash tested, is a 3 door variant. It is equipped with dual airbags in the front and a side head, chest and pelvis airbag.

Experts comment on crash test – “In the frontal offset test, there was insufficient pressure in the driver’s airbag to prevent it from ‘bottoming out’, allowing the head to contact the steering wheel. The score for the head was penalised for the behaviour of the airbag and the displacement of the steering wheel, and protection for this part of the body was rated as marginal. The passenger compartment was extensively deformed in the offset test, especially around the door-frame and the score for the driver’s chest was penalised for this unstable collapse. Combined with marginal dummy readings, protection for this body area was rated as weak. Although dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of both driver and passenger, structures in the instrument panel and dashboard were thought to pose a risk of injury to occupants of different sizes, and protection was rated as marginal.

In the full-width, rigid-barrier impact protection of the head of the rear passenger dummy was rated as weak, based on dummy readings during the test and protection of the chest of both driver and rear passenger was marginal. Tests on the front seats and head restraints showed marginal protection against whiplash injury in a rear impact. A geometric assessment of the rear seats indicated good protection. The standard-fit autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well in tests of its functionality at the low speeds, typical of city driving, at which many whiplash injuries are caused. However, the Jimny did not qualify for these points as Euro NCAP requires good head restraint performance as a pre-requisite for AEB points.”

Suzuki Jimny was showcased at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. It is available in two variants, a Kei car version meant exclusively for sale in Japan and a Sierra variant which is larger and more powerful for sale in global markets. Suzuki Jimny measures 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width and 1,725mm in height.

The Kei version is powered by a R06A 0.66 liter, 3 cylinder petrol engine offering 64 PS power and 96 Nm torque while the Sierra version measures 3,550mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm in height and is powered by a K15B 1.5 liter petrol engine offering 102 PS power and 130 Nm torque. These engines will be mated to 5 speed manual or 4 speed auto while the Jimny will also get Suzuki’s Allgrip Pro AWD system with low range transfer gear and LSD traction control. Full crash test report is below.
