2021-kia-sorento-leak-1580243616.jpg

This is the best look yet we have of the redesigned Kia Sorento, thanks to some leaked images circulating on Instagram that expose the mid-size SUV's front and rear ends and its dashboard. So far, it's looking good, although we'll reserve full judgment until we can see more official photos from Kia. The rumor is that the real thing will debut sometime in February in Korea.

Kia has confirmed that there will be a plug-in-hybrid variant of the new Sorento, but we don't know for sure if that will come to the U.S. market or not. More details should come soon as Kia prepares to debut the new SUV on its own terms, rather than at the speed of social media.

Upcoming New-Gen Kia Sorento’s Plush Interior Teased; Debut On March 3

kia-sorento-20201-front-1536x864.jpg

Kia’s global division will be unveiling the new Sorento at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland in the early parts of next month. The new details of the hot-selling SUV have started emerging in the weeks leading up its world premiere. The fourth-generation model has had another teaser released and some of the interior changes can be clear seen.

Just as the thoroughly redesigned exterior inspired by the flagship eight-seater Telluride, the cabin gets its share of a long list of updates. The redesigned dashboard gets dual digital screens while the instrument console and the large infotainment system are adjacent to each other. The repositioned air conditioning vents are in the lower portion flanking the climate control system.

2021 Kia Sorento Revealed with Upscale Interior

556793-1581960038.jpg?crop=0.874xw:0.740xh;0.110xw,0.jpg

The first interior photos of the upcoming Kia Sorento are good. Very good. The car world now expects modern Korean vehicles to exude class, and the Sorento—currently a bit ovoid and dull—is the latest Kia to shed a less desirable skin.

We saw the new Sorento undisguised a couple of weeks ago when a spy photographer shot one in California driving for a photo shoot. Kia just released these four official studio photos ahead of the crossover's debut in Geneva in a couple more weeks. The tan-and-black combo is appealing on its own, what with the two-tone steering wheel and quilted stitching on the seats.

But most striking are the vertical air vents that echo the Mustang-like taillights. They're a little fatter and very rhomboidal. Each arches outward over the dash with more concentric rhombuses directing the airflow. From Mercedes-Benz's swiveling circles to Audi's full-width strip, air vents may be the hottest detail in new car design. The Sorento has some of the best we've seen, and we see a lot.

  • The concept of ‘refined boldness’ inspired Kia’s designers
  • More confident, mature and desirable exterior design
  • Attractive, upscale cabin with premium material quality
  • Progressive connectivity, driver assist and infotainment technologies
  • Public debut at 2020 Geneva International Motor Show
Kia Motors Corporation has revealed the first official images of the new Kia Sorento today, ahead of its first public appearance at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show.
The concept of ‘refined boldness’ inspired Kia’s designers, who sought to maintain the robust, tough-looking aesthetic of earlier generations of Sorento, while applying a greater degree of refinement and elegance. More stylish than ever, the Sorento’s redefined design incorporates sharper lines and uninterrupted surfaces, making it noticeable more sculpted than its more round-edged predecessor. With more contemporary geometric details and more swept-back, elongated proportions, the result is a more confident, more mature and more desirable design than ever.
The more assertive ‘face’ of the Sorento evolves, too, with a new interpretation of Kia’s hallmark ‘tiger nose’ grille. Wider and more expansive, it wraps organically around the integrated headlamps on each side. The headlamps themselves feature a new ‘tiger eye’ LED daytime running light, adding extra focus to the design by depicting the intense impression of the lines around a tiger’s eyes.

In profile, the proportions of the Sorento are subtly adapted to make it appear longer, with shorter front and rear overhangs and a longer wheelbase. Its new proportions also extend the length of the bonnet, drawing the A-pillar 30 mm further back from the front axle for a more ‘cab-rearward’ design. The trailing edge of the hood wraps around the front wings and turns into a single, strong character line which extends along the side of the Sorento and flows into the new vertical tail lights.

Inside, the attractive, upscale cabin of the new Kia Sorento introduces a sophisticated new design, incorporating cutting-edge infotainment, supreme practicality, and premium-grade materials. One of the highest quality interior spaces found in any Kia to-date, the intuitive, tech-oriented cabin of the new Sorento retains the spaciousness and three-row versatility that has characterised the Sorento over its 18-year existence. Yet it now provides owners with something altogether more striking, desirable and comfortable.

The cabin introduces a sophisticated next-generation design. Blending metallic trims, leather upholstery and embossed wood-effect surfaces, the interior also subtly integrates other technologies to enhance connectivity, driver assistance and infotainment.

The Sorento comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system incorporating an audio-visual navigation. It also comes with a new 12.3-inch high-resolution digital instrument cluster that provides crystal-clear information to the driver. The progressive technologies available in the new model make it the most high-tech vehicle Kia has ever created.

The Sorento sits at the heart of Kia’s reinvigorated global SUV line-up, which also includes the Seltos, Stonic, Sportage, and Telluride. The new model is the result of a collaborative effort between all three studios within Kia’s global design network, in Korea, Europe and North America. The next-generation model is based on an all-new platform, raising standards in the midsize SUV segment for space, practicality, efficiency and quality.

Designed and engineered to take on everything life can throw at it, the new Sorento will make its debut on March 3, 2020.

New 2020 Kia Sorento SUV: engine details confirmed

press_mq4_34front3_cmyk.jpg

Further details for the new Kia Sorento have been announced, with the company confirming its flagship SUV will go on sale in Europe in the third quarter of 2020. Prices are expected to start around the £37,000 mark.

The fourth-generation Sorento will be offered with diesel and hybrid engines initially, while a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model will follow before the end of the year.

A 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel will act as the entry point to the Sorento line-up, sending 199bhp to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the hybrid powertrain combines a 1.6-litre engine and a 59bhp electric motor for a combined 227bhp, delivering its power through a six-speed automatic gearbox.

When it arrives, the plug-in hybrid variant is expected to use a larger 89bhp motor, offering a total output of 265bhp and around 35-40 miles of pure-electric range.

Inside, the new Sorento takes a leap towards its German rivals when it comes to quality, fit and finish. In Europe, buyers will be offered a choice of black cloth, single- or two-tone leather or quilted Nappa leather seats. The rest of the cabin will feature metallic trim pieces, leather upholstery and satin-effect surfaces.

The fully digital 12.3-inch driver’s display will be standard across the range, while an eight-inch infotainment screen will offer wireless smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An optional 10.25-inch central touchscreen will use Kia’s second-generation UVO app interface.

New Kia Sorento SUV to get blind-spot camera

m7ynbnd06bqboyhf7tdo.jpg

The new-generation 2020 Kia Sorento SUV is poised to get blind-zone camera technology on top-end models.

Utilising a wide-angle, high-definition camera under each side mirror, the technology shows vehicles in the adjacent lanes that would normally be in a driver’s blind-spot.

This image is shown on the 12.3-inch widescreen digital instrument cluster when an indicator is activated, temporarily superimposed over the speedometer. The system is similar in concept to Honda's LaneWatch feature, which displays a blind-spot video feed on the centre screen of equipped models.

Kia Australia says the technology will feature as standard equipment on flagship Sorento models. The new Kia Sorento range is set for an Australian launch later this year.

New Kia Sorento gets remote parking tech, centre airbag and other firsts

The new Kia Sorento will enable drivers to squeeze the vehicle into a tight parking spot using a remote control – while standing outside the car – a confidential dealer bulletin obtained by CarAdvice has revealed.

The remote parking technology has until now been exclusive to top end limousines and electric cars.

A new electronic gear selector means that owners of certain versions of the new Kia Sorento will be able to park the car while standing next to it (as illustrated above and below), to avoid banging the doors into adjacent vehicles, poles or walls.

Although the vehicle can only be manoeuvred remotely in a straight line forwards or backwards, it is still a feature unique to mainstream vehicles.

The confidential bulletin sent to all Kia dealers says: “Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) … enables drivers to move their car autonomously out of a front-and-back parking space remotely with their key fob”.
