The fourth generation of Honda City has been in existence since 2014 and it’s inching closer to the end of its lifecycle. The fifth iteration of the hugely successful C-segment sedan must be currently under development. Honda’s objective with the new gen City would be to outsmart the accomplished Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna.

According to Autocar India’s sources, the next-gen Honda City would be launched in India by 2020. The automaker is reportedly working on a petrol hybrid version (a mild hybrid rather than a full hybrid system that is readily available with Honda) to take on the Ciaz petrol which received a similar system very recently. The launch of Honda City petrol with mild hybrid system will depend on Indian government’s green vehicle policy.

Honda Cars India is also working on updating the 1.5-litre i-Dtec diesel engine to comply with the upcoming BS-VI emission standards. The upgrade would not only be aimed at reducing the emissions and improving the fuel economy but will also focus on improving the refinement.

While the fourth gen Honda City grew in size significantly to improve rear seat space, we expect its successor to employ cleverer interior packaging to ease up more room. The cabin would get improved materials, more upmarket features and added safety systems to keep pace with the segment standards.

The exterior styling is expected to receive considerable modifications to align with the brand’s international identity. Expect the front fascia to be low slung with narrow LED headlamps and generously proportioned airdams. The profile would retain its basic size and shape while the rear fascia is expected to undergo a complete revamp.

The next gen Honda City would play a crucial part in the Japanese automaker’s grown in India in the coming years. In addition to the new City, the company is also planning to bring back the Civic sedan and several other new products.

2020 Honda City spy shots emerge – New gen is bigger, gets hybrid

2020-honda-city-spy-shots-launch-price-india-2.jpg

The next generation Honda City which is currently in the advanced stages of development has finally been spotted in public. A heavily camouflaged test mule was seen doing rounds in Thailand, giving us a fair idea on what to expect from the C-segment sedan.

Honda Cars India is likely to offer a mild hybrid system with the petrol variant of the new City to take advantage of FAME-II scheme. An Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) paired to the 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol engine would improve the fuel economy considerably and offer torque assist to the engine when needed. The company has also confirmed that it will continue to offer its 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel engine in BS-VI avatar. The diesel could receive CVT option like in the updated Amaze.

nks-honda-city-body-kit-1068x743.jpg

The carmaker is testing the new City in Thailand and will make its global debut there only, with a possible launch in India during the Auto Expo 2020. This will be the fifth generation of the popular mid-size sedan and it is likely to get a long-awaited hybrid engine. Another addition to the new Honda City would be a CVT gearbox in the diesel engine, akin to the CVT in petrol engine. Both the 1.5-litre iVTEC and iDTEC engines will be BS-VI compliant once launched in India. The current gen City produces 118bhp/175Nm and 99bhp/200Nm in petrol and diesel engines respectively.

Honda City BS6 prices leak before launch – 2019 vs old prices

honda-city-bs6-launch.jpg

The BS 6 emission norms kick in from 1st April, 2020. With the deadline coming in closer, most OEMs have started to introduce BS6 compliant models to ensure that BS4 inventory from their pipeline is cleared well in time. The latest update has come in from Honda, which is scheduled to bring in the BS6 petrol City sometime soon. Pricing will see a minor and acceptable bump of around Rs 10 – 15K, depending upon the trim.

2020 Honda City new gen is longer than current City – Side view spied

2020-honda-city-sedan-2.jpg

The fifth iteration of the popular Honda City C segment sedan has been spotted testing in India once again. The test mule is fully camouflaged but we can make out that the exterior styling is evolutionary. The basic shape has been retained but tauter surfaces and more accentuated lines could be seen. The front fascia is expected to undergo significant changes in line with the brand’s latest identity. If the previous four iterations are anything to go by, the 2020 Honda City would be marginally bigger than its predecessor and that means more interior space.

Global debut of new gen 2020 Honda City is scheduled for 25th November in Bangkok. We expect the 2020 Honda City to make its India debut at the Auto Expo in February before going on sale in the country by March 2020.

India-bound new Honda City revealed

ImageResizer.ashx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fExtraImages%2f20191125015312_cityozx.jpg

The new 2020 Honda City will come to India after mid-2020, a time when it will see newer and updated rivals like the heavily refreshed Hyundai Verna, the recently updated Vento, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Skoda Rapid. The City has been Honda’s backbone in India. And in an era where sedans are falling in popularity, it’ll be interesting to see if the City can mirror the success of its predecessors.

It gets sportier front and rear bumpers with black inserts, a subtle black trunk-lid-mounted rear spoiler, darkened glass for its tail lamps and full-LED headlamps with black inserts. The new variant also gets larger 16-inch alloy wheels instead of the 15-inch ones seen on the standard City for the Thailand market.
