Gurgaon Car-Free Day Update

Gurgaon gets ready for car-free Tuesdays from tomorrow, aims to promote use of public transport

Car-free Tuesdays in Gurgaon, starting September 22, coincides with the World Car-Free Day to promote use of public transport among commuters. Software companies, real estate houses, Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon and even private schools have come out in support of the concept directing their employees to ‘shun’ cars and offering buses and other logistics for the D-day.

Nagarro Software Private Limited, an IT company based in Gurgaon with over 2,500 employees, has announced a cent per cent car-free day wherein the company has restricted any kind of car usage (private cars, carpools, office shared cabs) for all its employees.

Friends,

Today's rains in Delhi NCR has crippled the traffic to a unimaginable level. Some of the industrial areas of Noida were among the worst hit. I was at Sector 63 for an event today and it was one of the most terrible experience for me. Almost 80% of the inner roads of the sector and some part of the main road was submerged in water and it was really difficult to drive through the water clogged roads and the on-going metro construction made sure there is no way out but to wait and keep watching the traffic. As it is the inner roads of the sector are pathetic and these rains further worsened the situation. It took the driver about an hour and 15 minutes to cross through. What further added to the irritation was the third class drainage system in that sector coupled with the people on the gates enjoying and smiling at the misery of the car drivers and bikers.
