My tyres never get worn out. It's because I am a good driver? No, it's because I never get to drive that many kms. So I always replace them based on years covered.

DIY Changing engine oil and oil filter in my XUV5OO.
This is the second time I am changing the engine oil by myself. I did it last year sept 3 2017.
I procured new engine oil= 6 litres. Its Mahindra Maxi mile FEO. And new oil filter, Oem spec from the Mahindra genuine spares shop near my home. It took my about an hour, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
These were the 5 steps in which it was done.
1) Open the sump drain bolt and drain the oil. Tighten it up back, to the specified torque. Remove the stone guard first to reach the drain bolt.
2) Open the old oil filter and replace it with new.
3) Open the engine oil filler cap, and pour fresh 6 lit oil.
4) Start the engine and let it idle a bit, then check for any signs of leakage. Put back the stone guard. You are done.
5) Check for any CEL, if not drive away into glory, enjoying the totally silent engine, which is now after oil change even more silent.

You have to have good quality and appropriate tools for the job. If not then you wont enjoy this at all. In fact you may end up ruining parts and the DIY itself.

I have 5 different types of oil filter wrenches. All work in different ways but achieve the same result.
Some of them look like torture instruments. Some are scary to work with. But I like them all.
Still I usually prefer socket type wrenches more than others. One must know how to use them properly, or else it causes more harm than good.
In this DIY I had to use 2 different type of wrenches, because the filter was stuck badly. But in the end all is good.

Grease gun is very handy and economical too. 5K psi capacity is more than enough even for a JCB.
Its a must have for vehicles like Pajero and Fortuner which have a drive shaft( for the rear wheel drive) with greasing points/nipples.[clap]

And what happened to the Honda City oil change?
2 weeks back I had ordered OEM oil filter from boodmo website but they took more then a week to dispatch and its still in transit. Once I get it, I will have to go to market and find suitable socket wrench and then order engine oil from Amazon. Its gonna take long then expected.

Two more items (Washer drain plug and windshield washer tank cap) are on backorder and boodmo don't know when it will be dispatched.

On the other hand, tie rod end of my car are worn and I guess its making sound. Next week I will get both tie rod end replaced from ASC. Here is my post about the problem.

Thanks CRACING and Driveright for the prompt revert. You guys rock.

In the meantime I got hold of magnetic round tray/dish for holding small nuts and bolts. Its base is magnetic +rubber coated so no fear of scratches and all. In fact it holds even at 70 degrees incline, at the edge of /fall of bonnet, as can be seen in the pictures. Also seen here is the more recent 5 tonnage capacity trolley jack, which is lifting my XUV from the front. It was very handy in the above demonstrated DIY. It lifts the SUV very- very smoothly with little effort, and it makes my job easy.

Finally after long wait I have received OEM oil filter from Boodmo. Fortunately filters are as described (Mahle, same as original) and fresh (Aug 18). Next week I will visit ASC to get tie rod ends and brake/clutch fluids replaced because existing fluid has moisture. Then I will buy engine oil and get it replaced by myself or 3rd party service centers. I hope everything goes well.

Few days ago I brought this swivel oil filter wrench from market. Shop owner searched for suitable socket but it was in kit. He also had plier type wrench for 600 and steel swivel filter wrench (Like yours) for 450. I was ready to buy steel one but he went inside and brought another swivel filter wrench and said it costs 100 only! [:)]

It has metal strap and rubber coating on the handle. Grip is good and holds the filter securely. Lets see how it performs when I do the DIY.

It is possible to get the job done, but in my case due to the largish handle I could not move around the filter even i/4th of a circle. There is just not enough space around the oil filter to move the wrench freely. The handle always comes in the way.
So that's the main problem which gets solved by these other filter wrenches.
So all this is driving towards the climax then? Eh? meaning, I get to see oil + filter change sooner than I thought, Right?

DIY Cleaning water and moisture from tail light assembly of my XUV500.
Yesterday I was very surprised to find my left backlight filled with water. To avoid further complications like fusing bulbs and blackening of the reflectors,I did not wait at all and opened up the whole assembly.
Further surprises awaited me in the form of mud and grime and what not filled to the brim in all the nooks and crannies of the light assembly.I cleaned up everything and successfully put it back as it was ,without breaking and destroying the clips and and locks.I also had to remove the whole gasket in the boot to further clean the dirty areas on both the sides.
The following pics are in no particular order but they clearly show how to get the job done and the tools I used to get it done.

My car has ample space around the filter so no issues with taking out and putting new filter. Only problem is, reaching to drain bolt to remove old oil. I only have stock jack which has limited lifting height and I don't want to use it for this DIY. However, in front of my house, there is large ditch and I guess I can reach to drain bolt. Also my friend will bring floor jack in a week or two, if I get that then it will make this DIY easier.

As of tie rod, ASC has quoted 8k for 2x outer tie rods and 2x ball joints and all comes in kit but there is no stock, need to order and wait for a week or two. To me it didn't sound wise move so instead I will find 3rd party service center to check actual condition of these parts and if they are bad, I will go back to ASC and get them replaced.

On the other hand, my cat gave birth to three kittens on the 5th day of this Ganesh festival, hence Ganpati Bappa came to our home for the first time. Everyone are surprised and enjoying the festival. [:)]
