Hello, I hope everyone and their steeds are in good health!

My battery is 5 years old now, and needs a replacement as one of its cell is down and I haven't received the manual yet.

Any suggestions on which manufacturer and model should I go for?

@Dr MUDHAN

Thank you sir.

Also, if you have a discount in premium in the next year by way of No claim bonus, say for example 20% that's Rs.2000, You must avoid claim anything below Rs.5500.
This claim is costing me around 4k, the glass costs 25k. This line of yours make me wanna go for it

It's also in practice, the Motor Insurers abroad also honour the NCB earned in India and consider better discounts in their premium if we buy a car there.
Sir any official link for this?

If you make a claim, Your NCB becomes zero and you need to earn again step by step, will loose all the benefits that you earned over a period of time.
True. This is the only reason holding me back.

Therefore, it's better to make an analysis before making an Insurance claim. Don't forget to take into account the reduction in the value of the car every year and respective, relevant premium while analysing. Also, note, in your Windshield Claim if you make it, you need to bear the Excess part despite no depreciation applicable for glass part whether you have standard or Nil Dep policy.
IDV reduction is around 10% per year. Premium will be a little more as IRDA and these companies keeps on increasing premium per year. I didn't get the bold part. Is it something to do with this, these are lines from the policy,
Subject to a deduction for depreciation at the rates mentioned below in respect
of parts replaced:
1. For all rubber/ nylon / plastic parts, tyres and tubes, batteries and air bags -
50%
2. For fibre glass components -30%
3. For all parts made of glass –Nil
4. Rate of depreciation for all other parts including wooden parts will be as per
the following schedule.

How to know whether the windshield is glass or fibre glass? And the above lines are applicable in comprehensive insurance. In a nutshell still confused [sad] Insurance hoke bhi confusion ajeeb zindagi hai

Sir hope you don't mind me asking this, what is your Specialty?

1. Honouring the Bonus earned by good driving habits by way of better discounts in Insurance Premium is a General Insurance practice. Some of my friends who have settled in US used this by obtaining a certificate from their Indian Insurer. Of course, it's a discretion of Insurers there. Check with your Friends/ Relatives abroad. This is also applicable vice versa for Indians returning back to India. Reference Here:

2. You can make a claim for your Windshield, you should know how much you will get it.

Amount that you need to spend:
Cost of Windshield
Cost of Rubber beading and paste
Labour charges

Amount that you will get it back:
Cost of Windshield in full
Cost of Rubber beading and paste @ 50% Dep (Deduction is not applicable to NIL Dep Policy)
Labour charges in full
The above total - Minus Excess you need to bear in each and every claim ( Basic Excess plus Special Excess in case of Nil Dep policies.)

Note: Auto glass is either tempered or laminated. The glass usually used for the front and rear door windows and the rear window are made from tempered glass, the windshield is made from laminated glass.

Sir hope you don't mind me asking this, what is your Specialty?

AMARON Pro (50B20L)
Undoubtedly, the best choice @ best price. I got a quote here for Rs.4100/-
Earlier it was difficult to get PRO Model but now available. Mine is 6 years old, still going well.
Please ensure that you get a new stock, manufactured date within 6 months.

Hello Sir, I have booked the Hi Life Pro from batterybhai.com as you suggested, because the local dealer didn't have it's stock and was quoting 4000/- for Hi Life Flo, which I rejected.

I received a call from BB, he said that the company has stopped the production of the Hi Life PRO during the lockdown period and the one with him is Feb-2020 manufactured. When I asked him if there would be any issues, he said none, but newer the better and Hi Life FLO and Hi Life PRO are similar in specifications.

What shall I do? The people to change the battery are coming on Wednesday. So I've to inform him of my decision before that.

What are the differences between PRO and FLO anyway?

If I'm going for PRO, should I give it for charging before installation?

Most preferred model is AMARON FLO as it is value for money.

AMARON PRO, would definitely be a best due to its design components and increased longevity / warranty period. It’s better, if you decided to keep the car still more than 5 years.

I don’t think so, there would have been enough production of both these batteries during the lock down period, may be the manufactured date would be around 3 to 5 months, that’s acceptable.

If you maintain the car and battery properly, the FLO model will surpass the warranty period of 48 months. All these batteries are factory pre_ charged, no need to worry.

FLO is a popular model, cost wise must be cheaper, no issues, go for it.

Thank You for your response Sir, I'll go for the Hi Flo PRO as there is only a 500 rupees difference, which is miniscule for a period of 5 years hopefully. As you said, it's okay it it's within 6 months, I'm confirming the order for PRO with the dealer.

Also, have the battery maintenance tips been discussed on this thread?

Hi Doc. ,how about the flexible blind spot mirrors like this one
BLIND SPOT MIRROR – IN MY AFTERTHOUGHT !

Honestly, I am not comfortable with the so called Blind Spot Mirrors in whatever shape it comes.

I have removed them.

1. We will normally first glance at the normal mirror and then move to the additional one that means our eyes are off the road for longer than they should be.
Many times it interferes with my vision by occupying the space of my side view mirrors and, though these convex mirror are supposed to increase our rearward field of vision, they are actually confusing to use effectively, since our eyes take extra time to adjust to the reflection of the blind spot mirrors.
2. Convex mirrors are not designed to absorb glare and harsh reflections, and also don't have dimming or anti-glare features. As a result, it can become an even more painful experience driving at night.
3. In a country like INDIA, we are not sure whether these mirrors are safe at outside, as people enjoy fiddling with it. Also, the position changes while cleaning the side view mirrors every time & we need to reset to out vision often.

I am comfortable with my Rear Camera View and Sensors, IRVM & ORVMs.

I would like you to read the following note: Courtesy: Jeremiah Mckenna @ QUORA

You really DO NOT NEED a blind spot mirror. All you have to do is position your mirrors so that when you are sitting in the driver seat, you will be able to see the ‘blind spot’.
When you are sitting in the driver position, look in your left side mirror. Then simply tilt your head in order to make your left ear come as close to your left shoulder as possible. Then adjust the mirror so that you can barely see the left rear corner of the vehicle. Repeat this on the right side. After you have done that, you will be actually looking at the blind spot when your head is in the upright position.
You see, what happens is that for some unknown reason, when people position their mirrors they think that they need to see the rear corner, or even worse, the entire side of the vehicle they are driving. When in fact, the three mirrors will cover and overlap the viewing area.
So, after you have positioned the mirrors like I described, you will not need to move your head all the way around any longer. As you look in the mirror, you will not only see everything behind you and in your blind spot, your peripheral vision will also pick up vehicles that are beside you. Then you will be able to merge safely, and not have to take your eyes off of the road in front of you.

Hello Dr. Mudhan,

I have recently bought a used Honda city smt 2010 which has run 49095kms. Last service was carried out at 47000kms by previous owner, somehow it didn’t include replacing engine oil and air filter. Also checked the a/c pollen filter. Both of them need to be changed. While searching online discovered OEMassive pollen cabin air filter. Is this a better alternative filter or should i stick with OEM filter.

Regards,
Austin

@ Austin

Welcome Austin. Very nice to see you here as a part of our Forum Members.

1. Regarding buying ‘OEMassive pollen cabin air filter’ from China, better avoid it for now as the situation is very bad and you won’t even be receiving it.
2. Equivalent after Market filters like SAKURA brand are difficult to get now a day.
3. Being a second owner it’s better to make a general checkup and to do OE replacements for filters wherever required for your ‘The Golden Pixie’ @honda ASC service.

By the way your new thread ‘My Used Honda City SMT (2010) – The Golden Pixie’ is an excellent beginning and reflecting your feelings of energy and enthusiasm. God Bless you with all happiness.

With Warm Regards

Yes, Dr.Mudhan is correct. Don't go for any Chinese products now as you may not receive it. Many shipments of Chinese parts and products arrived in containers are still stuck for days in various points, so be careful.
