Well though I am not a big fan of these cars, yes Chinese have indeed come a long way and are number one in manufacturing in the world. What I hate about them is they simply copy and mass produce. They are highly patriotic (may be forced) that is why everyone is wary about their products. Don't know even of the talking hector is sending data back to china. but looking at Xiaomi the way they have captured the phone market, the TV market in India SIAC may well have struck the right cords with Indians.

More than Hector I want to bash Tata more here. SIAC have very very cleverly used the British Marque and have position hector as a true blood British car which it isn't. Tata should have used the brand Rover for Harrier but they have stuck to Tata, Tatas have definitely missed the hyper growth curve here. And have to bash them left right and center for this. Why the hell they can use the brand rover, come up with new space, premium brand, when MG can do it when kia can do it when nexa can happen, why can they use it. Personally I feel rover is still a good brand name. Why can the Tatas use it. Why is their management sleeping on this brand?

They are not even caring for elevate tata brand image.
They should have redesigned the emblem and marketed the brand. (See how MG from 0 , now i think indians considering it as midrange premium british brand)
During tiago days they tried to elevate brand tata. Tagline i was love with: "made of great" and tatamotors written in black color.
But im happy Atleast they are bringing good engineered cars that though is elevating brand image but not markedly.
In my view , tata should now concentrate on:
1. Improving plastic quality and fit and finish levels to hyundai standards ( with arrival of kia and new manufacturers from next year onwards market will move towards those cars undoubtedly)
2. More features also and multiple variants at launch itself. No point in adding AT and features in a dead car. If car doesnt have modern features at launch itself people wont look back at that car. Common people needs mileage, features , design and attention to detail in designs (especially in interiors).
3. Redesigning tata emblem and a very good marketing.(By looking side to side MG and TATA emblem , MG definetly looks upwarket, premium).
Last proper marketing from tata seen during tiago launch.
4. Introduce Rover brand in 15 to 35 lakhs bracket. This could provide economies of scale to tata with omega platform. Rover brand should be like new age peugeot cars

What Tata did was right they built Harrier in Tata Badge but I feel they should have used strategy of Maruti calling their cars premium under Nexa. This would have pulled more legs into their premium showroom.

India’s first internet car - MG HECTOR receives first over-the-air (OTA) software update
New Delhi, Oct. 21:
India’s first internet car – MG HECTOR has received the first over-the-air (OTA) software update that adds new features such as Apple Car Play and enhances the overall user experience with technological enhancements.

MG is one of the first in the automotive industry globally to provide free over-the-air software updates. With this, customers no longer need to get their cars all the way to the authorised service station for updating their infotainment system.

Starting today, customers of MG HECTOR’s Smart & Sharp variants will receive a notification on their touchscreen display to download the latest software update. The free update can be downloaded directly, just like smartphones, making it a ‘living car’. An embedded sim card enables internet inside the MG HECTOR’s iSMART infotainment system. The carmaker will roll out the update to the cars in batches.

“As the pioneer of internet cars in India, MG Motor India has been at the forefront of technology leadership in the automotive space. With the first over-the-air update in the Indian automotive industry, we are redefining the in-car experience and will continue to delight customers with more updates in the future,” said Rajeev Chaba, President & Managing Director, MG Motor India.

Launched on June 27 this year, the MG HECTOR has received more than 36,000 bookings so far.

MG Hector BS6 with captain seats, new bumper – Spied

mg-hector-6-seater-facelift-new-spied-launch-4.jpg

An MG Hector-based 7-Seater SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads. Spied in Vadodara, near the MG India plant, the test mule has a noticeable difference compared to the regular Hector. It is not clear if the final product will carry a different nametag, or not – just how the Tata Harrier’s 7-seater model was named, Gravitas.

The new spy shots of the MG Hector BS6 six seater variant are credit to Instagram user vikram_Dari. These new photos confirm that the exteriors will be revised. The redesigned rear bumper surely confirms the possibility of a different front-end. MG Motor seems to have decided to make the faux dual-exhaust layout less obvious rather than ditching the idea. The new set of exhaust-like cosmetics seems to be ‘inspired’ from regular Mercedes-Benz products.

In addition to this, there is also new headlight LED DRL in the front. In the spy shots you can also see the new rear seat headrest, which are different to the ones that are on offer with the Hector today. The larger headrest confirms the presence of captain seats in second row of the MG Hector BS6.

MG Hector BS6 petrol price list – Rs 26k more expensive

mg-hector-bs6-launch-price-1.jpg

With only one product on offer, MG Motor has managed to create quite a name in the auto industry. Helping them is their first SUV, Hector. Launched back in mid 2019, the SUV is offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol unit is a 1.5 liter unit while the diesel engine is a 2.0 liter unit.

It is the petrol motor that has now been updated to meet BS6 norms of India, which come into effect from 1st April 2020. There is no change in performance or mileage figures, as the 1.5 liter motor delivers the same power and torque figures of 143 hp and 250 Nm. Transmission options remain same – 6 MT and DCT. Apart from reducing carbon emissions, the other change is in price. Prices of MG Hector BS6 petrol have gone up by Rs 26,000 across variants. Below is the detailed price list of MG Hector BS6.

G Motor India updated the prices of its BS6 compliant Hector petrol and now, the company has announced the prices for its BS6 Hector diesel at starting price of Rs 13.88 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The above-mentioned price is for the Style variant while the Super, Smart and Sharp variants are available for Rs 14.88 lakh, Rs 16.32 lakh and Rs 17.72 lakh, respectively. Apart from the prices and the updated engine, the Hector diesel is essentially the same. It still comes powered by a 2.0-litre FCA-sourced diesel engine but is now BS6 compliant. It churns out the same 170bhp and 350Nm of peak torque as before. The transmission is handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox only. The exterior, interior and equipment list remains the same.

So Harrier XZ+ Vs Hector Sharp Harrier is dearer by around 97K. This price difference I guess should not be a bother for people who are looking for a 20L car. Similar specs, big sunroof, design wise I would still give it to Harrier, handling wise again its harrier that trmps hector. Interior wise, both are par, but Hector with lots of gizmos like internet inside, and start and stop via talking to car and all the features, and huge touch screen ICE can be a still a crowd puller. I am not a fan of such a big touch screen without any physical buttons. Its only distraction while driving. For me physical button are a must.

Choice for me still will be Harrier Dark with Sunroof.

Interesting times ahead.

Watch the MG Hector’s voice command system at work

Here we have a video that focuses on one of the main features in MG Hector: voice commands. The video shows how exactly this feature works. The video starts by showing Benedict Cumberbatch, who is the MG Motor India’s brand ambassador, walking towards the car and getting in. As soon as he is in the car, the smart infotainment system in the Hector welcomes him.

Later in the video, Benedict Cumberbatch can be seen operating the AC and the panoramic sunroof using voice commands. The voice command feature is actually pretty good and actually helps the driver keep his eye on the road while driving rather than looking for controls on the dashboard. User can also do many other things like roll down windows, select track, adjust temperature and so on.
