SAIC Motors is positioning MG branded Hector against Honda CRV and Hyundai Tucson.
Unless they 1. Price it too competitively (Baojun 530 is priced between Rs 8 to 12 lakh equivalent in China) , and
2. Provide a clear timeline for increasing their touch points beyond initial 100,
they are going to face similar hurdles as for FIAT's Jeep Compass, which despite being a great product, has failed to sustain great numbers of sales.
SAIC motor sales alone, within China, outsells the entire car production in India. Moreover, their MPV is among the top 20 world sales in 2018 (Toyota Corrolla retains No. 1 ranking). Just an indication, perhaps that their quality of products may not be bad.
Incidentally SAIC -GM-Wuling, the parent entity, has released Baojun 530 as Wuling Almaz (diamond) in Jakarta yesterday at an on-road price of Indonesian Rupiah 318,800,000 (Rs. 16 lakh equivalent)
