Ford Fiesta, Fiat Linea, New Volkswagen Vento and you name it. Almost all C-Segment cars in India are available with a Diesel engine option, but the one which not is the Maruti Suzuki SX4. Resulting in dull sales of this car each month, but now finally to stir up the sales, the much much awaited SX4 Diesel is going to make its way in India very soon.

“The SX4 diesel is currently undergoing extensive testing and should be launched by March 2011. The company is likely to use a more powerful version of the 1.3 litre diesel engine, since it already manufactures the same engine locally. This will help in keeping costs low.”

“A diesel sedan at a reasonable price may have very high demand. But, due to the capacity constraint at Manesar, where it makes the SX4, it may be delaying the launch of the diesel version.”

Yes, Maruti is likely to use 1.3 Liter Fiat sourced 75 BHP Diesel engine which currently also does its duty on Dzire Diesel. Internationally, SX4 is available with 1.6 Liter power train, but it is not being introduced in India since setting up the plant for same may prove to be expensive. More details are mentioned in above given link.

Thats good news finally. A diesel heart is what the SX4 needed pretty badly!

Now more competition for Fiesta , Verna and Linea just simply because its a Maruti!

Not an engine upgrade but an all new engine in the SX4 , maybe some technical and mechanical changes might have been done too. I don expect an entirely new design from Maruti , maybe just a few cosmetic changes!

It would be really exciting if Maruti Suzuki would have come up with a 1.6 Ltr(105 to 110bhp) mill instead of the modded 1.3(90bhp) This engine already does its duty in the Linea and introducing a car to compete with existing range of car's with a swelled price Tag doesn't make the deal attractive. Instead, MSIL must try to make SX4 a leader in the crowded C segment. I really hope they at-least offer the 1.6 in the top variant ZDI, but its more unlikely to happen as costing plays a major role in India.

Maruti Suzuki doesn't have any diesel engine on its own. It uses Fiat's 1.3L engine and even Fiat doesn't have 1.6 in India.
Only option is to poke VW's 1.6L diesel engine.

Yeah, that's absolutely right! But I am sure MSIL is too lazy to introduce 1.6 in the top end variant even if VW provides them their Vento's 1.6 heart [frustration]

but arent we forgetting that if they add more powerful = heavy engine then fuel efficiency will be tossed which is already so much poor! and i think because of this reason only SX4 didnt succeed despite being from maruti.

We are talking about Diesel SX4 and if even equiped with a VW 1.6ltr D heart, the FE might not be less than 13 to 14 in city driving conditions and around 18 on Highways, which isn't bad at all compared to the Petrol sibling...These are all latest Crdi Diesels which are fine tuned for maximum fuel efficiency and Power. Yes, at the moment the SX4 Petrol isn't much fuel efficient and that's the reason for its sluggish sales as well, but once this SX4 D steps in, its pretty sure to drive in lot of buyers[drive]
