India’s leading car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki recently celebrated the fifth anniversary of its entry level sedan Swift Dzire. A part of the celebrations was the “Dzirable Mileage Rally” which saw 62 participants trying to extract the maximum fuel efficiency from their Swift Dzire entry level sedans.

The rally was second in the series of celebrations to mark the 5.5 lakh cumulative sales and the 5th anniversary of the launch of Swift Dzire. The Dzireble Mileage Rally celebrations were held over the weekend in 31 cities across the country.

Mr. Gurdeep Singh won the coveted crown for clocking in the best FE figure of 45.8 kmpl in the diesel category while Mr. Shrirang Chindarkar won in the petrol category with 42.1 kmpl fuel efficiency figure.

At the occasion, Mr. Manohar Bhat, Vice President (Marketing), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “The Dizerable Mileage Rally is an innovative way to thank the old, new and prospective Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire customers. Over 5 lakh customers in just 5 years is a milestone that every automobile manufacturer dreams of and our customers have helped Swift Dzire to achieve it. The sales numbers reflect the strong customer connect of the Swift DZire for its high fuel efficiency, low cost of ownership and the overall value.”

The participants were provided with a time chart, route map and maximum mileage booklet as they drove their cars on a pre-defined route to the destination.

Prior to the flag off of the Dzirable Millage Rally the Company’s engineers and technical teams gave tips and tricks to enhance the fuel efficiency of their cars.

Interestingly, the “Dzirable Mileage Rally” comes soon after the launch of the Honda Amaze entry level sedan. The Amaze is not just the first compact sedan from the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese auto maker but is also the first Honda car in India to offer a diesel engine option. The Honda Amaze has already won a lot accolades for its power and fuel economy figures. The diesel variant of the car boasts of a certified FE figure of 25.8 kmpl.

We won’t be too surprised to see MSIL using the FE figure that the Dzire recently recorded at the Mileage Rally for the promotion of the car. It would be interesting to see if all these promotional events would help the Dzire get the better of Amaze.

Would MUL guyz like to share the stats of the winner's car like speed at which it was driven, road route etc. I highly doubt if this mileage could be given by stock engines.

If this is the case, why ARAI figures are different? I seriously doubt their calculation methods for FE. Amaze has definitely ignited Maruti minds, it's good for customers.

Fake figures as participants themselves later told media that engineers didn't reveal how FE was calculated and seriously doubted the FE figures. Just some fake propaganda by MUL to steal some attention from Honda Amaze.

Yes I also feel the entire event was a setup/fake. Just to beat the Amaze figures.
A participant's comment on mileage rally:-

“I could not believe when the engineer told me that my car delivered 38 kmpl. When I asked to explain how did they manage to get to this figure, they (Maruti) were not able to explain. None of the 50 of us were able to understand how did Maruti come to a mileage figure like that. All they asked us to do was to cover a distance of 70 kms with a checkpoint at every 10 kms. Once we were back, these figures were revealed.”

I think the rally was fake and MUL is trying to take away some limelight from Honda Amaze.[frustration]

45-50KMPH constant speed(generally a cordon off road) with glass rolled up and ac switched off, this is generally being told to the participant this millage rally. A TAI member was participated one such rally (Ford if I remember correctly) and got @30 KMPL from petrol fiesta, and the actual winner got some @35 KMPL. So it is not impossible, But I personally don't care much.
Millage isn't the only criteria for me, and thankfully I am seeing lot of people are start believing this way.
BTW a engine giving a very high millage with a constant speed may not (more often) be best millage giver in varrying speed/real life scenario.
So "bah" [glasses] to the marketing team, and best wishes for coming up something interesting next time.. [roll]

+1 to sukanta[clap]. I also have similar mindset. My criteria for car not only includes mileage, but also has good comfort, has to be reliable and should provide hassle free ownership.

Don't know how practical those mileage figures would be in real life situations.
MID of my Swift ZDi with 3400kms on odo shows 16.7kmpl now. Its driven mostly in B2B traffic with full time air-con on.

My Dire is giving 17.8 in city. I used tank full method. Normally hovers around 17-18 in city b2b traffic. Have to do a long trip to check highway mileage.
