Dear sir,
In turbo charged diesel engines, we are supposed to run the engine for a minimum of 30 seconds before switching off the engine to protect the turbine from heating/lubrication related issues.
But, in CIAZ and S Cross - they have that "engine start -stop" feature and they claim an increased mileage/efficiency by virtue of this.
In this case, what happens to the turbine when the engine is switched OFF & ON considering several other parameters. Here, how the turbine is taken care of ?
Thanks

I wish I had a straight answer for this. Ever since the start stop technology has come in cars in India, there have been many debates going on how effective it is and how smart the "Smart hybrid" technology by Maruti is. From what I understood searching and reading some blogs, some luxury cars have better cooling mechanisms which make sure the lubrication to the turbo is not cut off even after the engine is turned off. However, even after searching for it, its not easy to find a comprehensive list of cars which have the system enabled.
Also, the effectiveness of start stop is another debate, of how good the fuel savings are, and its impact over the other parts like battery and starter motor.

While I agree that the start stop system does help in better fuel efficiency in some cases, there are many where it won't make a difference and it can be turned off. For example, in the city traffic, you may not even use the turbo in stop go traffic and in this case its safe to let the start stop be on, and this is a situation where it is very effective.
However, during highway runs, where you may not be stopping in between, it would be a better idea to turn off the start stop system and do the idling yourself.
You can also do a longer idle in highway runs, and during cold starts in the morning. In city traffic when the engine is in the operating speed, you can let the start stop system do its work.

I have booked alpha variant recently and did a pdi in the stock yard. Everything seemed fine but The odo was 66km. Is this acceptable? Also there were no plastic covers on the seat.

Might have been driven for some purposes like pooling the staff etc or might have been given for TD. But 66 KM is ok, if all other aspects are good. Which Month/Year is it manufactured ?

Maruti S-Cross Diesel Discontinued, Petrol To Debut At Auto Expo 2020

maruti-s-cross-petrol.jpg

The Maruti S-Cross was first launched with two engine options – 1.3-litre diesel and 1.6-litre diesel. The latter was discontinued with the advent of the facelift, while the former received an SHVS mild-hybrid system. The Fiat-origin oil-burner produces a maximum power of 90 PS and a peak torque of 200 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

However, the Multijet motor has been now axed owing to its inability to meet with the upcoming BSVI emission norms. Moreover, with the popularity of the diesel engines on a decline in the lower segments, it makes incredible sense for the company to plonk a petrol mill into the engine bay of its crossover. So, with this, the 2020 Maruti S-Cross will be seen kitted out with the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that also powers the Ciaz and the Ertiga.

Maruti S Cross BS6 Petrol Teased on Official Nexa Website

maruti-s-cross-petrol-teased-nexa.jpg

Maruti Suzuki has chosen the petrol way going forward by ditching diesel variants across its product portfolio. Products which were previously available only in diesel formats (such as the Brezza and S-Cross) come only in petrol avatars after being updated to BS6 emission standards. While Maruti Suzuki has already launched the BS6 Vitara Brezza at a starting price of Rs 7.34 lakh ex-showroom, the S-Cross petrol BS6 has been added on its official website.

The new BS6-compliant Maruti S-Cross employs a 1.5-litre K-Series four-cylinder petrol motor that makes 104bhp and 138Nm of torque. This comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed TC automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive powertrain also boasts of SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild-hybrid technology which promises good fuel economy without compromising on performance.
