Re: Mahindra Scorpio Facelift 2017 in Works

But this is design which they want to maintain the jeep grille but due to copy right they have tweeked it bit and made the rectangles to 5 sided and 6 sided geometric object still keeping the rectangular silhoutte making it look like wannabe Jeep. Why is M&M not utilising the Pininfarina design firm for redesigning the Scorpio.

This is not expected from Mahindra. Dont screw up the Scorpio please.

Though it looks like there are very few changes in terms of looks, the mechanical changes and feature additions are quite good. A 6 speed gearbox, with the new engine is a good combination. This would make it a better highway cruiser. Have they also worked on the suspension to improve its road manners and handling?

Can you share more details about the parking assistance feature? Is it only a rear parking camera with distance markers or is it an automated parking system like on the Octavia?

Though the grill does not look quite good still there is no copyright thing involved here. The grill has been used in the Imperio Pick Up by M&M and from there it has been used in this new Scorpio with some chrome elements added. I think, the same grill might come in the upcoming XUV-5OO facelift too.

Yes Imperio got same style grill before Jeep Compass in India but people will think it is copied from Compass due to New SCORPIO is launched after Compass. Most of the people don't know Mahindra producing Imperio Premium pick up in India.

I still think older grill on New Generation SCORPIO looks far better than this. Hope they will keep current grill on XUV5OO because that grill in rendering made by SRK design don't have that great styling like current generation.

But this is design which they want to maintain the jeep grille but due to copy right they have tweeked it bit and made the rectangles to 5 sided and 6 sided geometric object still keeping the rectangular silhoutte making it look like wannabe Jeep. True, they wasted the opportunity to make SCORPIO better. Its just bling bling update for SCORPIO nothing else.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio Facelift 2017 in Works

I did rather ask Mahindra to provide rear disc brakes and a bigger Rear windshield instead of this useless facelift for such a heavy SUV. The alloy wheels of the old version were more funky, this looks very plain jane to me. Well, looks are subjective but safety features are not.
What happened to automatic transmission Mahindra?

It always fascinates me that with every facelift, the prices are steadily increasing. 15 years back at the launch, the price of the Dx (top model) was 6.34 lakhs and even 6 years back, the price of a fully loaded Vlx 2.2 mHawk 2wd Automatic was just a few thousands apart from the current entry level price. It is unimaginable that Mahindra still considers features a priority over safety for the Scorpio.

I agree the cosmetic changes are not that great, but I would not call the mechanical changes merely bling updates. They have increased the power, added a new transmission system, which makes the car a much better cruiser. The added gear, and the already present cruise control, would give much better fuel efficiency. Mahindra has always tried to keep the Scorpio's styling unchanged. That's why even when they got an all new chassis for the Scorpio which was lighter, they still did not change much in the looks department. This time, they have changed the whole power train, and it is certainly a significant upgrade compared to the earlier version.

Indian market is a big fan of Bling Bling vehicles & Mahindra knows that very well. That is why they keep their vehicle designs bit quirky and overdose of chrome is always required. Mechanical changes are welcome in SCORPIO but I remember before launch of XUV5OO someone said that SCORPIO's body shell cannot handle 140bhp engine so they invested in XUV5OO. Though in last update they have added new modular chassis which is capable of handling this much power, but that body shell is not! Its the same tall boy body shell they launched in 2002, haven't changed since.

Transmission is carried over from XUV5OO & that makes it good highway cruiser but don't forget at more than 100km/hr speed it is not as planted as other SUV's in this segment. SCORPIO has Go Anywhere attitude but its time Mahindra should go to drawing board again & make All New SCORPIO which will happen in 2020, I guess. Till the time they are keeping the SCORPIO brand alive.

Note this is coming from die hard SCORPIO fan, but later when I saw the Crash test of New Generation SCORPIO which got a BIG 0 [frustration] I lost interest in SCORPIO. Still love SCORPIO but if I am buying a Rs 20 lac vehicle that won't be SCORPIO, better to go with XUV5OO with safety rating of "4". Irony is Older SCORPIO (2009 Muscular) got "2" in crash test where this New Modular chassis New Generation SCORPIO have "0" in crash test so I guess there is something wrong with this New chassis.

Look at Power delivery of 140bhp mHAWK Engine in New SCORPIO 2017. XUV5OO owners already know how to handle this kind power but in SCORPIO it looks amazing. Check out the below video after 4:35mins.

P.S.- @Mods please merge my this post with previous one. Also can we merge this thread & other SCORPIO thread as New SCORPIO is launched. It will be better to have one thread for SCORPIO.

The new scorpio looks cool in dark colours like grey ! It feels faster but the power upgrade is available only in top end trims , where we overlap into another segments with better offerings including XUV , also I guess it's base variant too over priced with the 85bhp motor ! But it's selling so it's pure business for Mahindras !

It's a sign of something more powerful coming for XUV ? Then it's NICE !

You should know the NCAP testing standards were revised during the time frame so a 3 star Euro NCAP is somewhat equivalent to 5 star of previous gen apparently
Little known fact , even I was shocked with the poor crash ratings until I visited Euro NCAP site and saw all the ratings off late
