M&M have been a domestic major from the beginning and have not disappointed the utility and, more recently, the SUV segments. The new Thar is an outstanding feather in their cap, combining as it does the needs of the hardcore off-road fraternity, together with the - ahem! - more comfort oriented needs of the rest, including yours truly!
Regarding the Marazzo (as well as the new XUV500 & XUV300) the only downside is that M&M have jettisoned RWD/AWD in favour of FWD - the earlier XUV500 at least had the fig-leaf of the optional AWD. Now even that is discarded for the manufacturing cost benefits and the resulting economies of scale of the FWD lay-out. As I had said when Alfa Romeo introduced their first commercially successful FWD hatchback, the Alfasud in the 70's - "Et tu, Brute!"
At the risk of sounding a stick-in-the-mud purist, I will still say that FWD is a great compromise for wheelbases up to about 2.4 meters, where the advantages justify the engineering short-cuts. Anything with a wheelbase exceeding 2.5 meters (the Marazzo's wheel base is 2.76 meters) does not deserve the indignity of FWD. And this is one reason why the Innova / Crysta continues to rule the roost - the latest aspirant to fall by the wayside, the Kia Carnival, has a W.B. of 3060 meters, and still sticks to FWD - laughable indeed!
