Indian SUV maker Mahindra and Mahindra has launched a new subscription-based service for retail customers planning to buy one of its cars. Under this service, buyers can own a Mahindra SUV for a monthly subscription fee instead of buying it for the full price of the vehicle.
Mahindra has offered XUV500, XUV300, Scorpio, TUV300, Marazzo, Alturas G4 and KUV100 NXT under its new subscription model. The monthly subscription fee begins at Rs 19,720, and includes insurance and routine maintenance charges for the vehicle. The term of subscription will be between one to four years.
Mahindra has launched the subscription service in partnership with self-drive car rental service Revv. In the first phase, the service will be available in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad.

This seems to be a good initiative to boost their sales. The website FAQs cover almost all the doubts that come to mind. The only concerns that I see are non-availability of higher variants and the car carrying Black number plate.

So for a xuv300 w6 variant one has to shell out roughly 37k per month with km limit of 2100 kms so that's around 18rs per kilometer.
The subscription period is 48 months so all in all one has to pay 18 lakhs in 4 years[shock][confused] am i missing something ?

While the prices Quoted by Mahindra are very high (20k a month for most basic car? No thank you.)
This kind of model is very lucrative. They just need some competition to bring prices down. (Tata are you listening?)

In the wake of High Maintenance costs, Ping-pong Governmental Policies, Sky high fines etc. This business model might work in India.
