General Motors India and Reva Electric Car Company (REVA) have entered into a collaboration agreement to develop electric vehicles for the Indian market. The agreement was announced jointly by Karl Slym, president and managing director, General Motors India and Chetan Maini, deputy chairman and chief technology officer, REVA.

Karl Slym, President and Managing Director, GM India said, “We are pleased to join hands with REVA to bring affordable small car platform based electric vehicles to the market in line with government objectives to reduce fossil fuel dependence.”

The two companies have begun feasibility studies of GM’s vehicle platforms sometime back to host the electric technology and they will announce more details about the vehicles soon.

Okay Guys!

I personally think that all electric vehicles are used only forr city drives exclusively for offices or nearby places :)

So medum veicles will add extra price & decrease in Mileage per charge!

Precisely what Zinam said. More the weight of the car more power it'll draw to run thus reducing efficiency!

Spark would be a great electric city run about!!

One thing is for sure, That refreshed Reva is on cards.
It has been caught testing by people many times and its likely to be the one which was recently revealed on Franfurt Motor show.
Hope GM-Maini Brings it together here, GM(Affordable Price)+Maini(EV Tec) = An Affordable EV. [:)]

Green Sparks

GM's Latest offering,Chervolate Spark Electric, will be rolled out from Talegaon plant by Oct 2010,which is a joint venture with Reva.It comes close on heels of Hyundai's i10 Electric.

REVA's TECH,GM's ENGINEERING

Starting march 2010,GM will allow 25 dealerships across the country to showcase & sell the electric car.Talegaon will be its main production hub & Hallol will be geared up for the production too.

Though the company is yet to give details of the new vehicle, they clarified that the look & feel will be similar to that of the Spark. On the price tag, they said,"It will depend mainly on the type of battery the customer chooses to use viz. acid battery or lithium battery.

With the Spark electric, the company is mainly targeting the domestic market. However,it is definitely not ruling out the possibility of exporting to other Asian markets. It might be recalled here that GM is looking at making India its manufacturing hub for small cars.

Yeah even I heard that, the spark electric would hit showrooms by Oct. 2010.
What I have also heard is that it will be displayed alongside the spark 800 at the auto expo in New Delhi.

hey siddhant, you are correct it is coming by 2010 October.
General Motors inked MoU with Reva Electric Car Company last year to utilize its technology of manufacturing electric to build and electric variant of Chevrolet Spark. The project is already on track and the new Chevrolet Spark will hit the Indian roads by October2010. Delhi and NCR Chief Minister Sheila Dixit unveiled the electric model earlier this year at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010.

The collaboration between the two companies enables both the companies to step forward and integrate their technologies to develop car platforms and share the electric vehicle technology and build advance control systems.
“We are pleased to join hands with REVA to bring affordable small car platform based electric vehicles to the market in line with government objectives to reduce fossil fuel dependence,” said Karl Slym, MD and CEO, GM India. “We are going to be working closely with the Central and State Governments in India to develop infrastructure for electric vehicle charging and providing specific financial benefits to consumers, who make the choice to adopt an environment-friendly mode of personal transport,” he added.
General Motors is also planning to export the model to overseas market. However, the electric model of Chevrolet Spark will be sold only in those countries where Spark is not being manufactured locally. In other countries where Spark is being manufactured, General Motors will set up a joint venture with Reva Electric to set up electric vehicle plants.
