Mahindra’s bestselling SUV is set to get a major upgrade to meet the safety and emission standards that will come into effect from April 1, 2020. The Bolero, though ageing, is still going strong 19 years after it was launched and will be ‘future-proofed’ to meet the latest regulations.

As part of the upgrade, Mahindra will offer ABS across the Bolero line-up from this month. The SUV range will also get features like driver's airbag, seatbelt reminder warning, speed warning and rear parking sensors before July 1, 2019. However, a more serious upgrade will be carried out before October 1, 2019, when all cars have to meet the stringent offset front and side crash standards.

Upgraded, BS6-compliant Mahindra Bolero ready for launch

er.ashx?n=http%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fExtraImages%2f20200313040423_2020-Bolero-facelift.jpg

Like most other mainstream manufacturers, Mahindra has been steadily upgrading its existing model line-up sold in India to BS6 standards. Last year, the company announced that the brand’s oldest models on sale, the Bolero, has received Bharat Stage 6 certification for the Power Plus 1.5-litre diesel model.

Along with this announcement, the company had also confirmed that the BS6-compliant Bolero will go on sale in early 2020. Today, we bring you one of the first images of the heavily updated BS6-ready Bolero that will go on sale in the coming weeks. The refreshed Bolero gets major styling tweaks up front in the form of an all-new front grille, bumper and slightly tweaked hood. The headlamps are new as well along with black inserts and chrome bits – overall, they make the Bolero look more premium than before.

While the changes to the Bolero’s exterior might look cosmetic, the key aspect of note here is that Mahindra’s oldest model in India now complies with the new crash-test norms that were introduced late last year.

The BS6-compliant Bolero Power Plus comes with a 1.5-litre three cylinder diesel D75 engine that delivers 71hp and will also be seen in the refreshed TUV300 that will hit the showrooms soon.

Mahindra Bolero BS6 in a walkaround video

The video shows a quick walkaround of the new BS6 version of the Mahindra Bolero that is yet to be launched. The video starts by showing the front of the Bolero. This is one of the area where Mahindra has put in more effort. They have tried their best to give the front end a fresh look without losing the Bolero identity. The Headlamp have the same shape but the design inside has slight changes to it. The grille has been changed in comparison to the BS4 versions. The bumper has also been redesigned. It now gets a body coloured skid plate shaped insert at the bottom of the bumper with fog lamps on both sides with black garnish around them.
