HYDERABAD: Riding on a successful launch of ‘Maximo' mini-trucks, Mahindra & Mahindra is in the process of developing passenger vehicles and other variants on the same platform, according to Rajesh Jejurikar, Chief Executive, Automobile division.

Launching ‘Maximo' in Andhra Pradesh, he said South India accounted for 40 per cent of the mini-truck market. The company was all set to launch in Tamil Nadu soon. He said that with the southern market in mind, the company also planned to expand its footprint in the passenger vehicle segment on the same platform within six to eight months.

Maximo, he said, had undergone rigorous test runs and validated on performance, safety and reliability parameters. Its salient features were that it was the world's first to feature a two-cylinder, four valves per cylinder, CRDe engine. He said the process of acquiring the Korean SUV major Sangyong Motor was progressing well and that two popular models Rexton and Korando C, a five-seater SUV would soon be tested in Indian conditions.
