Kia Motors is actively testing their new Sonet small SUV in India. Spied on test appeared to be in a near production ready format, Sonet made its debut as a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this month. The Kia Sonet will take on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon in this highly competitive compact sub 4 meter SUV segment.

New Kia Sonet is based on the Hyundai Venue platform and will be positioned below the Seltos in the Kia India lineup. It will see features such as LED head lights and tail lamps, tiger nose front grille, 17” alloy wheels and number plate housing on rear bumper. Below is the first official TVC video of Kia Sonet SUV.

Kia Sonet spy image reveals plush interior

ttp%3a%2f%2fcdni.autocarindia.com%2fExtraImages%2f20200408010226_Kia-Sonet-interior-collage-1-re.jpg

Expected to launch sometime this year (assuming an early end to the Coronavirus crisis), the Sonet looks bigger, chunkier and more SUV like. And what we can tell you is that, unlike the Venue, which looks a bit plain on the inside, the Sonet is attractive and plush looking. Spy pictures show a cabin that is specced up to the gills. This GT line interior, to begin with, is finished in black and beige, the latter seen at the bottom of the door pads. The Transys made leather seats have double-stitched piping in red and what you can tell by looking at the centre console is that they are ventilated. On top of the centre console sits what looks like Kia's massive 10.25-inch touchscreen and infotainment system. Expect the same slick screen quality and features as on the Seltos, including connected-car tech. And right next to it is a hooded instrument panel that looks similar too.

Kia Sonet To Be Launched In Time For The Festive Season

The Coronavirus Crisis has definitely put off many plans that automakers in India had and many new launches have been pushed ahead to a later date. That said, there are some carmakers who still are trying to meet the deadline and keep up with their commitment. Kia Motors India has too confirmed that it will not delay the launch of its upcoming subcompact SUV in India and will stick to the festive season timeline. The South Korean carmaker had unveiled the Sonet subcompact SUV in February this year at the Auto Expo 2020 and now has confirmed that the car will go on sale in India in Q2 FY2021.

Kia Sonet World Debut In India: Date Confirmed

The highly anticipated next model from Kia is ready to be unleashed. After showing us the design study at the Auto Expo, the Kia Sonet will have its world debut in India on August 7 2020. The production model will be showcased to a global audience for the first time - in India, albeit via a live virtual event. The Kia Sonet is a subcompact SUV that will then come to market approximately a month after the world premiere event. This reminds of the Kia Seltos debut in mid 2019 that also followed a similar drill - India first, and then the world. In fact the Seltos went on sale in the US more than six months after the India market launch.

The Kia Sonet is a subcompact - meaning it sits below the Seltos in the Kia portfolio. Globally too, the car will be the entry model for Kia's SUV range. It is expected to sell in other markets, just like its cousin the Venue - which too has been selling in markets like the USA, Australia etc. besides India. The Sonet's arrival has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The world premiere was meant to have happened as early as May 2020, but luckily this delay has not impacted the car's market arrival. India gets the Sonet first and it will enter a highly competitive segment. It needs to take on not just the Hyundai Venue, but also the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 300.

Production-Ready Kia Sonet Images Leaked Ahead Of Launch

The much-awaited Kia Sonet subcompact SUV is all set to be unveiled in India on August 7, and ahead of its global debut, images of a production-spec model have surfaced online. The new images only give us a glimpse of the rear section and the profile of the upcoming Kia Sonet, and judging by what we see, the styling is certainly not as aggressive as the concept car we saw at the 2020 Auto Expo. The Kia Sonet is expected to be launched around the festive season, and it will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300.

This Kia Sonet test mule is seen with steel wheels and wheel covers, which means this is a lower or mid-spec variants of the SUV

t the rear, the upcoming Kia Sonet comes with wraparound LED taillights with LED guidelights and a red strip connecting the two light units. The curved design of the rear windshield has been retained, and we also see a rear spoiler. The tailgate comes with sharper lines and the bumper features a large silver faux skid plate and reflectors. The sloping design of the C-pillar has also been retained along with the small quarter glass, however, the fact that the SUV is running on steel wheels with wheel covers, indicates this particular unit is one of the lower or mid-spec variants of the new Sonet. One of the spy images also gives us a sneak-peek at the rear section of the cabin, which will get fabric upholstery, and rear AC vents.

The Kia Sonet will also get fabric upholstery, and rear AC vents

The Kia Sonet will share its engine options with the Hyundai Venue, and it will also get the new iMT gearbox

Features of upcoming Kia Sonet revealed through new teaser images

Kia-Sonet_Interior_Main.jpg

Before the official unveiling of the all-new Kia Sonet in India on 7th August 2020, the official sketches of the cabin have been released. The all-new Sonet will take on the established cars like the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and more. Since the sub-4m car will arrive in the market a bit late than others, Kia will offer a slew of features that will attract the customers. Many of these features will be first-in-segment. Kia is yet to officially disclose the features that will be available with the all-new Sonet but they have released the first-ever sketches of the cabin and there are a few features that we can make out by looking at them.

The Sonet will offer a clean looking dashboard finished in a single-tone colour. It is also possible that different trim levels will get different colour options. This is the top-end version and it reveals that the all-new Sonet will get a massive 10.25-inch infotainment screen, which will floating type and will be positioned as an extension of the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster seems to be all-digital or analogue-digital. The speedometer is large and will show speed in bold numbers.
