Chevy Corvettes recalled for front trunk troubles

2020-chevrolet-corvette-trunk-release-recall-250.png

A model year 2020 Chevrolet Corvette recall has been issued for nearly 5,800 cars because a small person who climbs inside the front trunk compartment may not be able to get out without help if the trunk lid closes.

General Motors says the release button located inside the front trunk compartment may not function after the vehicle has been shut off for ten minutes.

An auditor at an assembly plant tested the Corvette trunk lid release button located inside the front trunk compartment after the car had been left unattended and had entered a low-power sleep mode.

2018-2020 Mercedes-Benz X-Class recalled for misleading roof loading advice

b4faa71e45dcecd468cedfd6be6513d9.jpg

Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia has issued a recall of 6117 examples of its X-Class ute with Model Years from 2018 to 2020 (MY18-MY20) due to potentially misleading roof loading advice printed in the owner's manual.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the listed roof weight advice applies to a stationary vehicle, and a "moving vehicle experiences additional pressure on the roof from a load and therefore the maximum safe loading should be less".

Mercedes-Benz says fibreglass canopies fitted to the X-Class are susceptible to breaking if overloaded. Additionally, the electronic stability control may not perform correctly in certain circumstances relating to roof loads.

2017-2018 Mercedes-Benz S560 recalled for potential engine oil leak

328a7befd10c85a23a44392704f7f392.jpg

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall of 107 examples of the S560 with Model Years from 2017 to 2018 (MY17-MY18) due to the potential for engine plugs to fail, causing an engine oil leak.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says oil leaks are possible if the engine experiences high loads.

Mercedes-Benz warns leaking oil on the road can cause accidents. It says if the oil warning light is ignored by the driver, the 345kW/700Nm 4.0-litre V8 engine in the S560 could be damaged and stall.

Affected cars were sold between 2 October 2017 and 28 November 2018. Mercedes-Benz Australia is contacting owners to organise a free fix.

FCA Recalls 160,000 Ram 1500s for Mats That Can Interfere with Gas Pedal

rm019-136fnhb0c7rad002mkflb64fn9fo5si-1598645403.jpg

FCA has issued a recall for 160,229 2019 and 2020 Ram 1500s in the U.S. for the potential for the all-season floor mat to “interfere” with the accelerator pedal. The automaker said that the adjustable pedals could be positioned in a way that leaves too little clearance between the floor mats and the pedals, which may lead to their coming into contact. Ram 1500s in Canada and Mexico are also affected by the recall.

FCA said that it is unaware of any injuries or accidents resulting from the pedal interference and noted that it estimates only 1 percent of the recalled 1500s may have this issue. The recall was issued following an investigation which was prompted by a customer complaining about the floor mat interfering with the pedal.

2020-ford-escape-transit-recall-250.png

Ford is recalling 80 model year 2020 Escape and Transit vehicles because of improperly crimped diffusers in the side curtain airbags which may result in the diffusers detaching from the airbag inflators when the airbags deploy.

The U.S. recall includes 68 Transits and Escapes, and in Canada Ford is recalling 12 model year 2020 Transits.

The Ford recall began August 3, 2020, but replacement side airbag modules are not currently available. Owners will be notified when parts are available.

Kia Australia has issued a recall for 2241 examples of its Carnival people mover with the Model Year 2020 (MY20), due to an incorrectly tightened battery terminal.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the loose battery terminal could "increase the resistance to the alternator and may lead to heat being generated, which could result in a fire within the engine compartment".

Affected cars were sold between 30 August 2019 and 19 August 2020. Kia Australia is contacting Carnival owners to organise a free fix.

Kia Australia has issued a recall of 2465 examples of its Seltos SUV from the 2020 model-year, citing a design compliance issue pertaining to the cars' in-built anti-theft mechanisms.

The recall notice, which was lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), states the Seltos is "not compliant" with an Australian Design Rule requiring an anti-theft lock to be fitted to the steering column shaft.

Mercedes-AMG G63 high-performance SUV recalled

uri1sislbijuhlwxwkco.jpg

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall of 337 Mercedes-AMG G63 vehicles with model years 2018 and 2019 (MY18-19), citing a potential fault with the differential locking system.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says “sulphur fumes from axle oil may impair an electrical component in the differential locking module, affecting the normal functioning of the differential lock”.

“Loss of proper operation of the differential lock and braking and traction systems may increase the risk of a crash in situations where these are being relied on, increasing the risk of injury or death of vehicle occupants and occupants of nearby vehicles,” the recall notice states.

Volkswagen recalls vehicles for seat backrest frames

audi-vw-seatback-frame-recall(1)-250.png

Nearly 7,900 of these Audi and Volkswagen vehicles are included in a recall because the front seat backrest frames and backrest adjusters may not have been welded properly.

  • 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport
  • 2020 Volkswagen Jetta
  • 2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI
  • 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan
  • 2020 Audi Q5
  • 2020 Audi SQ5
  • 2021 Volkswagen Atlas
The welding mistakes could cause the backrest adjustment to break in a rear-end crash and allow the seat to move.

Nearly 4,900 vehicles are recalled in the U.S. and more than 3,000 are recalled in Canada.

The Audi and VW recall is expected to begin October 25, 2020, when dealerships will replace the seatback frames if necessary.

Volkswagen owners may contact the automaker at 888-241-2289 and Audi owners may call 800-822-2834.

Volkswagen's numbers for this recall are 72L1, 72K8 and 72K9.

Hyundai and Kia Recalling 591,000 Vehicles for Fire Hazard

Hyundai and Kia have announced a recall for nearly 600,000 vehicles from the 2013 through 2015 model years to fix a problem with a brake-fluid leak in the anti-lock brakes' hydraulic control unit. The problem was first reported in 2018 and the automaker had been investigating. Hyundai said an engine fire could happen even if the car is not turned on.

include 440,370 Kia vehicles, including 283,803 Optimas from 2013–2015 and 156,567 Sorentos from 2014 and 2015, plus 151,000 Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs from the 2013–2015 model year.

Earlier in 2020, Hyundai recalled 2006–2011 Elantra and 2007–2011 Elantra Touring vehicles over another electrical short-circuit issue involving water getting into the ABS computer unit, again raising the possibility of an engine fire. And the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been investigating the Korean automakers since April 2019 over complaints of more than 3000 engine fires and 103 injuries that were unrelated to crashes.

Owners of these models of Kia or Hyundai vehicles can check the NHTSA recalls website to find out if their vehicle is affected. Kia owners will be notified by the automakers starting on October 15, while Hyundai owners will get their letters starting a week later, and dealers will replace hydraulic electronic control units found to be faulty at no charge.
