Nissan Leaf backup camera not working

2020-nissan-leaf-backup-camera-recall-250.png

If your Nissan LEAF backup camera is not working and you own a 2020 model year LEAF, a recall may help if the camera images disappear while in REVERSE.

More than 6,100 Nissan LEAF cars will have their backup camera software updated by dealerships.

A Nissan engineer discovered the problem in January when the Around View Monitor (AVM) display disappeared while the LEAF was backing up. Nissan opened an investigation but COVID-19 concerns caused the investigation to pause.

In June and July, engineers determined the backup camera problem occurred only under certain conditions.

The AVM and rearview image can disappear and be replaced with the previous screen image when the shifter is in REVERSE and the following conditions occur within 25 seconds of head unit cold start: If the driver presses "OK" to acknowledge the sonar pop-up display on the meter, or if the reverse driving speed is 7.5 mph or greater.

Mercedes recalling A220 cars to prevent water damage

mercedes-a220-drain-hose-recall-250.png

Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 4,900 model year 2019 A220 cars because the air conditioning condensation drain hoses may not be installed properly.

Water may enter the driver and passenger foot wells and the center tunnel areas, damaging the electrical components.

Mercedes opened investigations in May 2019 after reports from A220 owners who complained about water entering the passenger compartments due to loose air conditioning drain hoses.

Customers noticed fogged windows and wet carpets, leading engineers to analyze the installation process during manufacturing at different assembly plants.

The investigation convinced the automaker to recall the A220s.

Condensation can cause corrosion and short circuits which result in malfunctions of the SRS control units, the vehicle’s failure to start, an activation of the engine’s limp-home mode during driving, and problems with the fuel pumps and automatic/manual emergency call systems.

The Mercedes-Benz recall includes 3,615 A220 cars in the U.S. and 1,302 cars in Canada.

Mercedes dealers will correct the air conditioning drain hoses once the recall begins September 15, 2020.

A220 owners may contact customer service at 800-367-6372.

KIA Telluride Suvs recalled for trailer brake light failures

2020-kia-telluride-trailer-light-recall-250.png

Nearly 87,000 model year 2020 Kia Telluride SUVs are recalled if the vehicles are equipped with Smart Cruise Control (SCC).

Kia says when a trailer is connected to the SUV, the brake lights of the trailer won't function when the cruise control applies the brakes.

One of the functions of the SCC is to apply the brakes to slow the vehicle when the system senses a vehicle in front of it within the set distance. Failure of the trailer brake lights is a violation of federal safety standards because of the increased risk to safety.
