Ford F-150 Recalled for Brake-Fluid Leak That Could Lead to Crash

2019-ford-f-150-power-stroke-comparison-101-1579103431.jpg

  • Ford is recalling 292,311 Ford F-150 pickups in the U.S. from the 2014 through 2017 model years.
  • The problem is a potential leak in the brake master cylinder that could lead to reduced brake function in the front wheels.
  • The problem affects F-150s with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine.
Ford announced today that it is recalling 292,311 Ford F-150 pickups over a possible brake master cylinder fluid leak. In affected vehicles, brake fluid could leak from the brake master cylinder's front-wheel circuit into the brake booster, Ford said in a statement. The recall also includes about 50,000 additional F-150 pickups in Canada and Mexico.

Ford said there have been seven reported "low-speed/low-impact" accidents and two injuries so far as a result of the problem.

  • Ford has issued another recall for faulty door latches, which can fail to secure a door, leading to its possibly coming open while the vehicle is being driven.
  • The recall covers nearly 2.2 million vehicles in the U.S. from both Ford and Lincoln, including the C-Max, Escape, Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, Mustang, and Transit Connect and the Lincoln MKC and MKZ, on models built between 2011 and 2016.
  • Owners can inspect the latches themselves to see if they need to be replaced or can bring the vehicle to a dealer.
Ford has issued a recall for nearly 2.2 million vehicles in the U.S. from model years 2011 to 2016 to replace faulty door latches, which can become unlatched while driving. The recall, involving numerous models of Ford and Lincoln sedans, crossovers, and vans, covers vehicles that were recalled in 2015 and 2016 for the same issue but may have not had all of the latches replaced or, if they were replaced, it may have been done incorrectly.

c904385fe02c56300337d91060b3ebdc.jpg

British luxury car maker Bentley has issued a global recall for its Bentayga SUV for a potential fire hazard due to a leak in the vehicles’ fuel system.

At the time of writing, Bentley had not filed a recall notice with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

CarAdvice has contacted Bentley to confirm how many Australian cars are affected. This story will be updated with more information as it comes to hand.

Overseas reports place the number of Bentaygas involved in the recall at more than 6000 globally, with 783 examples in Europe and 1892 in the US.

Bentayga models built between 26 July 2018 and 15 January 2020 are affected. Bentley estimates that only 0.02 per cent of cars included in the recall are affected by the defect.

Audi Q7 and Q8 recalled due to transmission leak

plcwtxzdq0tvrkx0t6b0.jpg

Audi Australia has issued a recall of seven examples of its brand-new 2020-2021 Q7 (shown above) and 2019-2021 Q8 SUVs due to a transmission leak.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says an oil pipe fitted to the transmission may have been welded incorrectly, which can result in a leak. A similar recall was announced two weeks ago for the Volkswagen Touareg.

The unit in question is the ‘AL552-8Q’ transmission, produced between September 2019 and December 2019.

Audi Australia says if the transmission leaks oil, there is an increased risk of accident and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.

82,500 Jeep Cherokee recalled over transmission defect

jeep-cherokee-recall.jpg

A Jeep Cherokee recall has been ordered for more than 82,500 SUVs to prevent them from unintentionally rolling away.

The recalled 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokees are equipped with two-speed power transfer units (PTUs) that may move between the "differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU."

This will block power from being transferred between the front wheels and the transmissions, causing a loss of motive power while the Cherokees are in motion. In addition, the PARK function won't work when the Cherokee is stationary.

A loss of motive power is a dangerous condition, and a loss of the PARK function can cause the Cherokee to suddenly roll away.

Mazda recalls CX-30 and Mazda3 vehicles for braking problems

mazda-front-brake-caliper-bolt-recall-250.png

Mazda has recalled more than 28,200 model year 2020 CX-30 and Mazda3 vehicles with front brake calipers that may loosen and fall off.

A driver will have trouble with braking and a loose caliper can interfere with the rotation of the wheel. More than 24,000 Mazda vehicles are recalled in the U.S. and nearly 4,200 are recalled in Canada.

Mazda received a report in February which talked about a grinding noise caused by caliper installation bolts that were missing. In addition, a Mazda plant in Mexico reported two vehicles suffered the same problem.

Employees said they heard abnormal noises during dynamic inspection on the testing track. In each of these cases, two bolts for mounting the brake calipers completely loosened and detached.

Mercedes Sprinters recalled if equipped with swivel seats

mercedes-benz-sprinter-swivel-seat-recall-250.png

Daimler Vans is recalling more than 11,000 model year 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter vans equipped with swivel seats.

The wiring harnesses for the front seats may have been routed incorrectly and could become jammed and damaged in the swivel seat frames.

This can affect the operation of the seat side airbags by causing them to deploy for no reason. It's also possible the airbags won't deploy in side crash impacts.

A Sprinter van driver may notice an illuminated airbag warning light that stays on until the problem is fixed.

Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators recalled

2020-ford-expedition-lincoln-navigator-headrest-recall-250.png

A Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator recall includes nearly 2,800 SUVs because the attachment brackets for the driver's side second-row seat headrests may not have been welded correctly to the seat frames.

The 2020 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators violate federal safety standards because the headrests may not protect occupants in crashes.

Ford says a supplier found a headrest that suffered from excessive movement.

The supplier found the headrest attachment bracket was out of position and two of the four welds did not properly penetrate the headrest bracket. The supplier then found a second seat frame with one of four welds that had not penetrated the headrest attachment bracket.

The Ford recall includes 2,620 SUVs in the U.S., 159 in Canada and 19 SUVs in Mexico.

Mercedes-Benz recalls C300, E350 and GLC300

mercedes-benz-turbocharger-oil-lines-recall(1)-250.png

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 137 model year 2020 C300, E350 and GLC300 vehicles equipped with turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engines.

Mercedes says the screws that retain the turbocharger oil feed and return lines may not have been properly tightened.

This can cause an oil leak, and leaking oil that makes contact with an ignition source may cause a fire.

In the U.S. 88 vehicles are recalled and in Canada 49 vehicles will be repaired.

Volvos recalled globally for faulty seat belts, nearly 25,000 Australian cars affected

Swedish car maker Volvo – which invented the three-point seat belt in 1959 – has issued a global recall of 2.18 million cars for defective seat belts, with 24,977 Australian vehicles included.

Affected models include previous-generation S60, S60L, S60 Cross Country, V60, V60 Cross Country, XC60, V70, XC70, S80 and S80L produced between 2006 and 2019.

The defect relates to a steel cable used in the front seat belt assembly that may fatigue and weaken over time, resulting in reduced restraint function of the seat belts.
