Ford's Fix for Recalled Super Duty Trucks Is a Roll of Duct Tape

2017-Ford-F-250-Crew-Diesel-112.jpg

Ford is recalling 490,574 Super Duty trucks in the United States because their carpets and insulation can catch fire during a crash, according to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It's the same defect as the 1.6 million F-150 trucks that Ford recalled in September 2018.

Daimler Recalls 744,000 Mercedes-Benz Vehicles In The US For Faulty Sunroofs

German automaker Daimler AG said on Saturday it will recall 744,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the United States from the 2001 through 2011 model years because the sunroof glass panel could detach and pose a hazard. The large recall covers more two dozen vehicles from C-Class, CLK-Class, CLS-Class and E-Class model lines. The automaker said the bonding between the glass panel and the sliding room frame might not meet specifications and could lead to sunroofs detaching.

Toyota To Recall 3.4 Million Vehicles Worldwide For Faulty Airbags

Toyota Motor Corp said on Tuesday it will recall 3.4 million vehicles worldwide because of an electronic defect that can result in air bags not deploying in crashes. The recall, which includes 2.9 million U.S. vehicles, covers 2011-2019 Corolla, 2011-2013 Matrix, 2012-2018 Avalon and 2013-2018 Avalon Hybrid vehicles and is tied to a report of one fatal crash.

The vehicles may have an electronic control unit that does not have adequate protection against electrical noise that can occur in crashes, which could lead to incomplete or non-deployment of the air bags. It could also impede the operation of seat-belt pretensioners.

Honda Recalling 2.7 Million North American Vehicles For New Air Bag Inflator Defect

Honda Motor Co said on Tuesday it will recall 2.7 million older U.S. vehicles in North America for potentially defective air bag inflators. The defect involves a different type of Takata inflator than those that have prompted the largest-ever auto safety recalls worldwide covering more than 42 million U.S. vehicles by 19 automakers with Takata air bag inflators.

The new recall covers Honda and Acura automobiles from the 1996 through 2003 model years. Honda said it is aware of one field rupture of a inflator in the new recall campaign - a 2012 crash in Texas that resulted in an injury - and two in junkyards in Japan.

The campaign covers 2.4 million U.S. vehicles and 300,000 in Canada, Honda said, adding that it has not determined recall numbers for other countries.

GM Recalling Silverado, Sierra for Second Time for Brake-Failure Issue

2019-chevrolet-silverado-turbo-108-1576255289.jpg?crop=1.00xw:0.753xh;0,0.jpg

General Motors issued a recall in December of last year to fix a bug in the software that affected electronic brake controls in some of its 2019 model pickups. The manufacturer is now issuing an updated recall, originally reported by the Detroit Free Press, after some trucks serviced under the first recall later had their brakes fail. The problem has been reported to occur after owners used the OnStar app to remotely start their vehicles.

The original recall impacted nearly 550,000 2019 model vehicles, mainly the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups but also fewer than 1000 Cadillac CT6 sedans with four-cylinder and V-8 engines. In these vehicles, an issue in the software for the electronic brake control could cause the electronic stability control and the anti-lock brakes to become disabled.

Hyundai Recalls Nearly 430,000 Elantras over Engine Fire Issue

large-415-2009elantra-1581352855.jpg

Hyundai has issued a recall for nearly 430,000 of its 2006–2011 Elantra sedans and 2007–2011 Elantra Touring wagons. The recall was issued due to the likelihood of moisture entering the anti-lock brake (ABS) module and causing an electrical short, leading to an engine fire. Only a handful of fires have been reported to Hyundai, and there have been no injuries, according to a timeline of the problem published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Tesla Recalls 15,000 Model X Vehicles over Power Steering Issue

tesla-model-x-1581553912.jpg?crop=0.819xw:0.681xh;0.0984xw,0.jpg

Today Tesla issued a recall on 2016 Model X vehicles built before mid-October 2016. NHTSA and Transport Canada found that the aluminum bolts that connect the power steering gear assist motor to the gear housing could corrode and break resulting in a loss of power steering. The company said that if the bolts did break, the driver could continue to steer, but it would require more force.

Tesla stated that it was not aware of any injuries or collisions related to the issue and said it found that the corrosion issue was primarily observed in cold climates that use calcium or magnesium road salt rather than sodium chloride road salt. Regardless of the region you live in, it's always a good idea to take in your vehicle if it's part of a recall, especially if there's a chance the issue could affect control of the vehicle.

Honda Recalls Nearly 250,000 Odyssey Minivans for Fire Hazard

2020-honda-odyssey-mmp-1-1565727418.jpg?crop=0.600xw:0.449xh;0.0799xw,0.jpg

Honda has issued a recall for its popular Odyssey for model years 2018–2020, over a a risk of fire occurring in the third-row seat. There are 241,339 potentially affected minivans in the U.S., the automaker said in documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The problem could occur if the wire harness for the power outlet in the third row becomes pinched, damaging the wires, which can lead to an electrical short and potentially a fire. Three fires have been reported to date, but no injuries, according to Honda's chronology of the defect filed with NHTSA. The fix for the recall is to use protective tape if the wire is undamaged, but if it is damaged, the dealer will replace it

Mazda Recalling 2016 CX-5 over LED Lights That Could Flicker or Fail

2016-mazda-cx-5-32-1581518206.jpg?crop=0.936xw:0.702xh;0.0415xw,0.jpg

Mazda has filed a notification with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that, in about 36,761 CX-5 crossovers in the United States, the LED daytime running lights could be defective. NHTSA has not yet issued a recall notice or published information about the defect.

Mazda says the problem happened because "inappropriate" materials were used for the sealing gasket attached to the LED daytime running lights' wiring connector. The gasket can release sulfur that can corrode the LED circuit that controls the lights. This could lead to flickering or failure to illuminate in one or both of the front daytime running lights without warning, making the vehicle more difficult for other drivers or pedestrians to see, Mazda says.

Ford Recalls Flex, Lincoln MKT over Suspension Flaws

2017-ford-flex-slide4-manu-1530216100.jpg?crop=1.00xw:0.822xh;0,0.jpg

Ford has issued a recall for 211,207 vehicles in the United States and another 17,000 in Canada and Mexico, saying there's a possibility of the rear suspension toe link fracturing as a result of frequent suspension use. A fracturing of the rear toe link can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicle leading to a crash.

The recall affects the 2013 to 2018 Flex, Taurus SHO, Taurus police car, and Lincoln MKT. Ford says that it isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from a failure of the rear toe link, a part of the vehicle that keeps the rear wheels pointed in the correct direction.

New Ford Puma recalled over airbag issue

dsc_0880.jpg

Ford has announced that a batch of the first new Puma models to hit roads in the UK will face a recall, due to an incorrect component within the airbag system.

A statement from Ford reads: “A number of Puma vehicles have been built with driver’s airbag retention springs that may be outside of Ford Motor Company manufacturing specification.

Ford says that the airbag mechanism itself still functions, and that the affected vehicles are still safe to drive. The statement continues: “internal tests have identified that under certain conditions it is possible that the airbag is not retained in the steering wheel after it has been deployed.” However, the airbag’s deployment “will still meet regulatory requirements,” and “provides sufficient protection for the driver.” To date, no customers have reported any issues.

Toyota Recalls 44,000 2019 and 2020 Models over Engine Cracks

2020-toyota-rav4-off-road-109-1549574677.jpg?crop=0.816xw:0.667xh;0.112xw,0.jpg

Toyota is recalling some of its most popular vehicles due to the potential of a crack forming in the engine, a result of a manufacturing error. Coolant or oil could leak from the crack, leading to the engine stalling, overheating, or possibly catching fire, Toyota said.

The recall covers models with Toyota's 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and include the 2020 Camry, Camry hybrid, Avalon hybrid, 2019 and 2020 RAV4 and RAV4 hybrid, and the 2020 Lexus ES300H. In total, 44,191 vehicles are covered by the recall, the majority of which (36,920) are 2019 and 2020 RAV4 crossovers. All the vehicles were built between September and December 2019. The issue came about when a water flow meter that regulates the casting of engines failed, leading to some engines not cooling properly.

Kia Recalling 228,000 Sedona and Sorento Vehicles for ABS Problem

2010-kia-sedona-photo-319984-s-986x603.jpg

Kia has issued a recall for 228,829 vehicles, including 2006–2010 Sedona minivans and 2007–2009 Sorento SUVs, due to a heightened risk of an engine fire. The issue can occur when moisture enters the anti-lock-brake (ABS) system's electronics, leading to an electrical short.

The affected vehicles are at risk of fire even when they are parked and turned off, as the electronics remain energized. How moisture enters the ABS system’s module is not yet known, according to a NHTSA report.

Ford recalls 200,000 F-150s over LED headlamp issues

f150_0.jpg

DETROIT — Ford Motor Co. is recalling 166,196 F-150 pickups in the U.S. and federal territories and 50,989 in Canada over a problem with LED headlights.

The F-150 vehicles affected are from the 2018 to 2019 model years.

The running lamps in the recalled pickups remain illuminated even when the lights are manually switched from auto-lamp to the low-beam position. The lamps should be dimming to parking lamp intensity.

"This may reduce the visibility of other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash," according to a statement from Ford.

This is a safety-compliance recall, a Ford spokeswoman told Automotive News.

There have been no reports of accident or injury related to this recall.

Dealers will address the recall by updating the body control module software configuration.

Ford will start contacting affected vehicle owners March 9, spokeswoman Monique Brentley said.

It was not immediately clear which company supplied the headlights.

Kia to recall 193,000 vehicles for potential fuel leak, fire risk

Kia is recalling nearly 142,000 Optima sedans and more than 51,000 Sedona minivans in the U.S. due to fuel line issues that could increase the risk of fire.

The recalled Optimas are from the 2013-14 model years, and the Sedonas are from the 2011-12 model years.

"The low-pressure fuel hose may deteriorate and crack over time due to heat generated within the engine compartment," according to Kia's statement on the Optima recall. The recalled Optimas are equipped with 2.4-liter gasoline direct-injection or 2.0-liter GDI Turbo engines.
