2006-2009 Hyundai Santa Fe recalled due to fire hazard

30551a0b8802fcb13654c4d50033c213.jpg

Hyundai Australia has issued a recall of 9393 of its 2006 to 2009 model year Santa Fe SUVs sold between 16 March 2005 and 22 September 2009 due to a defective circuit board that may increase the risk of fire.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the defect relates to an electronic circuit board in the vehicles’ anti-lock braking system (ABS) module that may short circuit when exposed to moisture.

Hyundai i30 and Elantra recalled for fire risk, nearly 90,000 cars included

Hyundai Australia has issued a recall of 87,499 of its 2007-2011 model-year i30 hatchback (shown above) and 2006-2011 Elantra small sedan (shown below) due to a defective circuit board that may increase risk of fire, with two known fires reported on Australian i30 cars.

This recall follows the same fire hazard affecting 9393 examples of Hyundai's 2006 to 2009 model year Santa Fe SUVs, as reported by CarAdvice last week.

The new recall includes 68,765 examples of Hyundai i30 hatchbacks sold between 7 November 2006 and 14 December 2010, and 18,734 Elantra sedans that were sold between 17 August 2005 and 14 May 2011.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says the defect relates to an electronic circuit board in the vehicles’ anti-lock braking system (ABS) module that may short circuit when exposed to moisture.

Hyundai notes this fire can be present even when the car’s engine is switched off, as the ABS module receives power constantly.

Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series recalled due to fire risk

5b3e680a39585ddb5a5945f4df09e360.jpg

Toyota Australia has issued a recall for 22,971 of its LandCruiser 70 Series models built between 13 June 2016 and 5 November 2018 due to an increased risk of fire.

Toyota’s recall says that – due to the design of the exhaust pipe heat shield – vegetation may accumulate during off-road usage if the debris is not routinely removed.

Australian-delivered cars have caught on fire, "There have been some reports of minor incidents underneath vehicles. However, these were contained quickly."

The grass fire risk is similar to a recall issued for the Ford Ranger two years ago.

Toyota says it will fix the issue by replacing the exhaust pipe heat shielding on affected cars with a modified design.

Bentley Bentayga recalled because seat belts may detach

1c76c9fe72c334d26ce0f648109bb8bb.jpg

British luxury brand Bentley has issued a recall for 67 examples of its 2018-2020 Bentayga seven-seater SUV due to a faulty seat belt anchorage point.

Petrol V8, petrol W12 and diesel V8 models are affected.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the anchorage point for the third row seat belts may not meet legal load requirements.

Bentley says that if the anchorage points fail during a crash, it may result in the seat belts detaching from the car’s body and occupants not being properly restrained.

Toyota RAV4 recalled for fault in crucial suspension component

d7fy8v2eei9ov4ikf7gn.jpg

Toyota Australia has issued a recall of 1552 of its RAV4 SUVs produced between 25 September 2019 and 17 October 2019 due to a crucial suspension component that may fail.

The recall affects both petrol and hybrid RAV4s cars with model codes AXAH54, AXAH52, MXAA52 and AXAA54.

Toyota’s recall says that lower control arms – a crucial suspension arm that helps tie the front wheels to the body – fitted to the front of the cars may be defective.

Toyota Australia states that over time cracks may form in the lower control arms that can be worsened by rapid acceleration and deceleration.

2018-2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class recalled, safety features may not work in a crash

emcluarfn9hsl2e91cty.jpg

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall of 155 examples of its 2018-2019 G-Class 463 Series SUVs sold as Mercedes-AMG G63 due to a defect in wiring that operates safety features in the event of a crash.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says a wiring harness may be damaged during regular opening and closing of the front doors.

Mercedes-Benz Australia says that – depending on which wire in the harness is damaged – the defect may result in a delayed deployment of airbags, airbags that do not deploy at all, and/or the automatic door unlock function not working in the instance of a crash.

There is also a chance that when the car contacts emergency services following an airbag deployment, it may register the wrong seating position in the car as being affected.

McLaren confirms 186 Australian cars involved in global recall

British supercar maker McLaren has confirmed 186 Australian cars are included in a global recall issued in April for a fire hazard.

The 186 McLaren cars span 2017-2020 model year 720S coupe and spider, Senna, 570GT and GT models sold between 31 August 2016 and 29 March 2020.

Included cars are susceptible to an increased risk of fire due to a noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) pad fitted to the fuel tank that can trap moisture, eventually leading to corrosion and leakage from the tank.

2019-2020 Ram 1500 ute recalled for faulty windshield wipers

pnslnvzhuqjqgsagc1hu.jpg

American Special Vehicles (ASV) – the Melbourne company responsible for converting US pick-up specialist Ram’s cars to right-hand drive for the Australian market – has issued a recall for 2540 of its 2019-2020 model-year 1500 pick-up trucks due to a defective windshield wiper assembly.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the defect relates to a faulty joint at the head of the wiper arm that may strip.

Ram Trucks Australia says if the joint does fail, the windshield wipers will not function as intended, reducing road visibility for drivers and increasing the risk of accident causing injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.

Toyota Recalls 2019, 2020 RAV4s over Faulty Lower Suspension Arm

FireShot Capture 002 - Toyota Recalls 2019, 2020 RAV4s over Faulty Lower Suspension Arm_ - www...png

  • Toyota has issued a recall for 9502 of its 2019 and 2020 RAV4 and RAV4 hybrid due to a faulty front lower suspension arm that could separate from the wheel assembly and potentially cause a crash.
  • The issue was caused by improper conditions at the steel supplier's plant, Toyota said in its defect report.
  • Owners will be notified by the recall starting July 19; Toyota will replace the part on affected RAV4s.

Toyota has issued a recall for a small number of 2019 and 2020 RAV4 and RAV4 hybrids due to a faulty front lower suspension arm that can crack and separate from the front wheel, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall covers 9502 of the crossovers, all of which were built in September or October 2019.

The issue in the suspension arm was caused by improper conditions at the steel supplier, Toyota said, which led to cracks forming on the surface of the steel. According to the defect information report, when the affected vehicles are driven frequently with aggressive acceleration and deceleration, the cracks could spread and lead to the suspension arm separating from the wheel assembly. Toyota says that it is unaware of this occurring in any of the recalled vehicles.

Volkswagen Australia
has issued a recall of 2627 examples of its 2017-2019 Tiguan R-Line SUV due to a roof spoiler that may detach from the car.

Ford Ranger and Everest recalled for transmission defect, 20,000 cars affected

8d840080d0358dd1e0b010c0967f44c5.jpg

Ford Australia has issued a recall of 15,924 examples of its 2017-2019 Ranger ute (shown above), and 5044 examples of its 2018-2019 Everest SUV due to a fault with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

Included Ranger models were sold between 19 December 2017 and 15 October 2019, while included Everest models were sold between 30 May 2018 and 16 October 2019.

The defect includes 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engines fitted with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the gears inside the transmission fluid pump could fail while driving.

Ford Australia says if the fluid pump does fail, it will lead to a loss of hydraulic pressure in the transmission and may lead to a loss of drive, increasing the risk of accident and injury to occupants and other road users.

2020 Volkswagen Touareg recalled for leak that could damage transmission

j2bhwg6ovuybj2jnsick.jpg

Volkswagen Australia has issued a recall of 72 examples of its 2020 Touareg SUV due to a transmission leak that could result in damage.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says an oil pipe fitted to the transmission may have been welded incorrectly, which can result in a leak.

If left unattended, the transmission can lose “several litres” of fluid, which could lead to damage of the unit.

Further to this, Volkswagen Australia says if the transmission leaks oil, there is an increased risk of accident and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.

Nissan Recalls 1.8 Million Altima Sedans for Faulty Hood Latch

2018-nissan-altima-113.jpg?crop=0.905xw:0.833xh;0.0391xw,0.jpg

  • Nissan has expanded a recall for its Altima sedan over a hood-latch defect, now including 2013 to 2018 models and bringing the total vehicles covered by the recall to more than 1.8 million.
  • The faulty hood latch can prevent the hood from being secured, so it could open while the vehicle is being driven.
  • Owners will be notified of recall arrangements beginning August 1.

Nissan has expanded a previous recall for faulty hood latches in its Altima sedans, now including a total of more than 1.8 million vehicles. The newly added Altimas come from the 2016 to 2018 model years. When the primary hood latch corrodes, it can prevent the secondary latch from engaging, which can lead to the hood opening while the vehicle is being driven, obstructing the driver's view and increasing the risk of a crash.

The full recall encompasses 2013 to 2018 models of the Altima sedan. Other recalls for the hood latches were issued in 2014, 2015, and 2016, and even if the previously recalled vehicles had the latch replaced then, they will need to have the replacement part replaced once again. Nissan said in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a fix for the faulty latch is still under development.
