India-bound 2019 Honda Civic Facelift Revealed

Honda has taken the wraps off of the mid-cycle refresh/facelift model of the tenth-gen Civic in the US. After skipping a generation and the pre-facelift version of the current model, Honda will finally launch the new Civic in India next year.

Although Honda showcased the pre-facelift version of the tenth-gen Civic at the 2018 Auto Expo in February this year, the carmaker is likely to launch the refreshed model that was revealed recently. The 2019 model gets updated LED headlamps and a redesigned front bumper with a new splitter that spans across its width. The latter makes the sedan look wider than before. At the rear, the refreshed bumper gets a new chrome applique. The refreshed sedan also gets a new set of alloy wheels (up to 18-inch) as well.

Honda has not revealed the interior of the updated Civic yet. But it has highlighted that it gets the updated 7-inch infotainment system seen on the new CR-V, which is set to be launched in India in October 2018. The new unit gets physical buttons, including a volume rocker, instead of capacitive ones seen on the pre-facelift Civic.

Under the bonnet, the Civic facelift continues to be powered by the same set of engines as before. At the Auto Expo, Honda confirmed that the India-bound Civic will be offered with both a petrol as well as a diesel engine this time around.

The diesel engine that powers the Civic is a 1.6-litre (120PS/300Nm) unit that will also power the India-bound CR-V in the same state of tune. The diesel motor is expected to be offered with both a 6-speed manual as well as a 9-speed automatic. The India-spec Civic petrol, on the other hand, is expected to get the updated 1.8-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol (141PS/174Nm) if not the more powerful 1.5-litre turbo (173PS/220Nm). The petrol motor will be offered with a CVT with paddle shifters as well as a 6-speed manual.

Honda is set to launch the Civic in India by April 2019. It will rival the likes of the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis and its upcoming Maruti-badged version. Expect it to be priced between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 24 lakh. At present, the Elantra is the most affordable car in the segment with a starting price of Rs 13.69 lakh. At the other end of the spectrum is the Octavia RS priced at Rs 26.78 lakh (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).

2019 Honda Civic diesel will not get 9 speed ZF auto from CRV – Only manual transmission

Set for launch in January 2019, the new generation Honda Civic has already made its global debut both in the US and UK markets, where it is for the first time that it gets a diesel engine mated to a 9 speed automatic transmission. Earlier it was reported that India too will be getting the same combination of engine and gearbox, as the company is launching the same combo with the new CRV next month. But as per a new report, that is not going to happen.

As per sources, Honda plans to make the Civic priced aggressively. Offering a ZF 9 speed auto on diesel Civic would have made it very expensive. Thus, the company has reportedly decided to offer new Civic diesel only with 6 speed manual transmission in India.

The 10th generation Honda Civic launch in India is a sign of the brands shift towards more premium products in the country. It was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and will be seen with exterior updates such as a new front grille, new LED head and tail lamps and new front fog lamps. It gets electrically operated ORVMs with LED DRLs, electric sunroof and an overall wider stance with a sloping roofline.

Interiors will also get revised with more premium features such as 60:40 split folding seats, automatic climate control, a 7” touchscreen infotainment system and a multifunction steering wheel. It will also get satellite navigation, heated seats and push button start/stop feature. Among its premium features will also be a multi angle rear view camera and smart keyless entry.

It is for the first time that Honda Civic will be powered by a diesel engine in India. This 1.6 liter diesel engine, which also powers the new generation Honda CR-V that will launch on 9th October. It will offer 120 hp power at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm torque at 2,000 rpm. Along with this, we will also get a 1.8 liter petrol engine generating 140 hp. This engine will be mated with 6 speed manual. It will also be offered with automatic (not ZF).

Though the Honda Civic in international markets is offered in 3 body styles of Coupe, Sedan and Hatchback, it will only be the sedan version on sale in India. It will be brought in as a CKD unit and will be priced between Rs 18-22 lakhs. The new generation Honda Civic will rival the likes of Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla in its class.

India-bound 2019 Honda Civic: New pictures and details

Early next year, Honda will bring back the Civic badge in India. The 10th generation Civic, in facelifted form, is the car that will bring back this legendary marque into the country. The car that will be sold in India will be similar to the North American version, but of course with a right-hand drive layout, a diesel engine and many other India-specific changes. Here are some images and stylistic details of the new Honda Civic sedan.

As the pictures show, the 2019 Honda Civic Facelift will get sharp styling that makes it look very different from the one that was discontinued from the Indian market over half a decade ago. Honda’s latest front-end styling philosophy with leading edge design finds expression in the new Civic.

The car also gets coupe-like rear-end styling, making it look sportier than most other D-Segment sedans sold in India currently. As for other exterior styling details, the car gets smoked headlamps, glossy black finish for the front grille, and chromed bits on parts such as the front and rear bumpers.

On the inside, the new Civic features a 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While international versions of the car get Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward collision warning, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Adaptive Cruise Control as standard, the India-spec version is likely to make do with airbags and ABS.

As for mechanicals, the Civic sold in India will be offered in two distinct flavours. The petrol engined version will be powered by a 1.8-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated motor with 138 Bhp-176 Nm, and a CVT automatic gearbox driving the front wheels.

The diesel motor will be a 1.6-litre i-DTEC all-aluminum unit with 118 Bhp-300 Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be standard on the diesel engine. The Civic will be imported into India through the completely knocked down (CKD) kit route, and will be assembled here.

New Honda Civic petrol, diesel India launch by Jan 2019 – Latest photos

Honda has released images of the 2019 Honda Civic along with its prices in US markets. Set to make its market debut in USA, plans to launch the new Civic in India are also on the cards. The India spec 2019 Honda Civic will be assembled from Thai made CKD kits and will see no changes in design as compared to its US spec model, though features may somewhat vary.

2019 Honda Civic launch in India comes after a gap of six years. Its launch is pegged for sometime in February 2019 and will follow an earlier big launch of the new Honda CR-V which is scheduled for 9th October 2018.

The new Civic will be seen with piano black accents on its exterior with a new front bumper with chrome on fog lamp housing. The rear will receive more chrome accents while it will get alloy wheels in a new design.

Interiors will be dominated by a large 7.0” touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Comfortable seating, driver and passenger comfort features and a host of safety features will also be seen on the new Civic.

2019 Honda Civic sedan will launch in India in both petrol and diesel engine options making it the first time that the Honda Civic gets a diesel engine. The petrol engine could be a 1.8 liter i-VTEC unit offering 140 bhp power and mated to a 6 speed manual or an automatic gearbox.

The diesel engine will be the same 1.6 liter i-DTEC engine which will also be seen on the new CR-V. This engine will offer 120 bhp power and mated only to a 6 speed manual as no automatic transmission is being planned. 2019 Honda Civic in India could be priced between Rs 15-18 lakhs. It will compete against the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and Skoda Octavia.

2019 Honda Civic To Get 1.6L Diesel Engine, India Launch Next Month

Hond-acivic-modulo.jpg

The 2019 Honda Civic, unlike the eighth-gen model sold earlier, will launch with both petrol and diesel engines. While the popularity of diesel engines has been on a downward slope, a vast majority of buyers of premium models still prefer the economy of a diesel engine over the refinement of a petrol unit.
