Re: HM Ambassador Pick-up Version Spotted

I think HM has many unsold Ambassadors in their yards. That's why they are attempting these kind of foolishness. They should sell them at 50% discount and should develop a new generation styling car on contessa's platform or a Suv on amby's platform.

Re: HM Ambassador Pick-up Version Spotted

An old taxi driver still with his amby , says hat people think twice before booking his car.

the amby image is going down and he is look out for a indigo to continue his living.

Even when a people think twice for the taxi , will they ever buy them?

But strange thing is , along the karaikal , nagapatinam side in tn , there are lot and lots of ambys. maintained in superb condition.

no idea about the other part of nation where it sells good!

Delhi still has Ambassador Taxis for Railway Stations and Airports which are accompanied by Omni.

Genio, anyday looks better than the HM Pickup. I hardly see new Ambys, the only ones surviving are the decade old or more.

Re: HM Ambassador Pick-up Version - Veer!

Hindustan Motors has finally launched the Pick-up variant of Ambassador and it has been named as Veer. It's a 800 Kg mini-commercial vehicle which is available in BS-3 Diesel and BS-4 CNG fuel options, with starting price tag of just Rs.3.30 Lakhs.

Press Release:
  • A small commercial vehicle with comfort of car
  • Diesel version’s inaugural offer price Rs. 3.30 lakh
  • Launch to begin from East India

KOLKATA, August 8, 2011: India’s pioneering car company Hindustan Motors Ltd. (HM) launched VEER, a 0.8-tonne (800 kg) small commercial vehicle (SCV) here today, kick-starting the company’s plans to introduce more vehicles in the current financial year. Notably, the company’s Chairman, Mr. C K Birla, had announced the imminent launch of a slew of new vehicles at HM’s annual general meeting held here on August 4. “We have honoured our commitment by launching VEER. More new vehicles will follow suit. These will come both from our Uttarpara plant in West Bengal, where we manufacture the iconic Ambassador and other vehicles, and our Chennai facility where we build the Mitsubishi range of vehicles. Our bouquet of offerings is set to expand at a fast pace due to our reinforced emphasis on new product development,” stated Mr. Manoj Jha, HM’s Managing Director, after unveiling the new vehicle.

The robust VEER is built on the tried and tested Ambassador platform, incorporating changes in transmission and suspension systems required for a sturdy load carrier. The vehicle is available in both diesel (BS III) and CNG (BS IV) versions and in two models – VEER and VEER LX. While VEER has a separate load tray, VEER LX’s load tray is seamlessly integrated with the front cabin. The uniqueness of VEER lies in the fact that it also offers the comfort of a car. In fact, the three-seat bench provided in the front cabin offers distinctly superior comfort level compared to other vehicles in this segment. In view of its Ambassador lineage, VEER will obviously enjoy the traditional benefits of low cost maintenance and easy availability of spare parts. The vehicle is also available as a drive-away chassis (DAC) with front cabin. Hindustan Motors is launching VEER initially in East India with plans to go pan-India over the current financial year. Initially available in marshall cream and stack brown colours, Veer diesel’s inaugural price for the month of August 2011 is pegged at Rs. 3.30 lakh ex-showroom Kolkata.

The should have retained the contours of the rear (like the cars rear door bottom half and the boot) instead of making a box. That way it would look retro. Can someone do a PS job?

for that price it seems really cool. I would love to mod one into a hot rod and this gives us the rear space we need for big wide wheels. Make it a two door hot rod wagon.

Re: HM Ambassador Pick Up Named As VEER!

There goes the last bit of respect for the good-old Amby. Why do they want to punish an almost dead model?

After all these small facelifts and avatar, the fact is that the Amby still has lots of flaws to be ironed out. If they can't make a decent makeover, they should be working on reliability at the least. And not make its fate any worse.

Does the Veer at least have 2000cc Isuzu engine? Because, the 1500cc HM diesel engine was never good at added load like AC, riding up the hills, etc..

Except the price tag nothing is so tempting.
Front grill looks like a cheap mod job. OMG no hump in the bonnet???
Amby lost its character with this new avatar.

Oh! So this is the final look of the test mule I spotted. Poor Amby. This in itself looks like a PS job. Just cut the chassis of Amby into half & add a tray behind. [anger]
