Hero Group is gearing up for going it alone, and in style, after its spilt with Honda. The company is planning to launch three new models before the yearend to augment growth, reports Livemint. The most exciting of these would be a 180cc dirt bike, which would be a segment first for the company. Now, there have not been many products in that category in the Indian market, but some of you would recall the Bajaj Endura FX. With an engine displacement of 180cc, the dirt bike will be Hero’s first in the niche segment, and the first launch from the company under its new brand name. The dirt bike will not be produced here in India, but will be imported in the CKD form and then assembled at the company’s Gurgaon factory. The expected price of the bike has been quoted between Rs. 1.1 lakh and Rs. 1.3 lakh by some undisclosed company personnel. Apart from the 180cc dirk bike, the two other models to be launched will belong to the 100cc and 125cc categories. The two models will strengthen the company’s presence in the all important commuter segment with two entirely new offerings. source - motroids

well dude India has less market for dirtbikes..I hope! KTM was also launching dirt bike or have they brought it already?? it will have very less sales but great news for passionate dirtbikers.. I will better off getting new R15 [evil]

The dirtbike has a niche market in our country, but there are too many enthusiasts who are being inspired with the foreign trend of dirtbiking. The only question remains is that with the price tag of above Rs.1 Lakhs, will they actually opt for one? Because only enthusiasts can afford a bike of that price, that too which cannot be used for your routine purposes.

Spied! Dirt Bike from Hero Moto Corp.

An apt motorcycle for Indian roads that remain in terrible condition round the year, Hero MotoCorp’s first on-off road bike sits tall on long travel telescopic front suspension, with a monoshock rear suspension and spoke wheels, as commonly associated with such rugged, go anywhere motorcycles.
This Hero is built tough, with massive body panels including a high floating front mudguard, and large overhangs extending ahead of its big, high set fuel tank. Instrumentation appears digital and trendy from the little seen in this picture.
A four-stroke, single-cylinder and air-cooled engine should displace in the region of 150cc - 200cc, with its silencer and heat shield running the entire right length of this bike just under its seat. We expect to see a five-speed gearbox, with a wide powerband tuned for strong low and mid range performance, while an exposed chain drive system is evident.
The new bike has a tubular steel frame that includes a single downtube running from the beefy steering column to link to twin tubes under the engine, meeting in a swingarm pivot which extends backwards as a twin sided, steel box section member.
The new Hero MotoCorp sports a single front disc, rear drum brakes configuration and you can’t miss generous ground clearance, with the rear brake lever extending downwards into position ahead of the right footrest, and drum brake operating lever located higher than on conventional Indian motorcycles.

Now this is really refreshing change, this coming for a company which is "In"famously known for briging out new Improved "Stickered" versions of their motorcycle.

Anyway, I hope this is not meant for export market. Though the market is not big enough for such bike but this will be a boon for motocross lovers who till now were helping themselves by modifying RXseries bikes.

so called sports bikes r15, fz, zmr would be good for official uses. but going to office on a dirt bike doesnt look that good

Thats a good start.But how many of us will buy that?
As emperor said,this dirt bike cannot be used for daily commute as Karizma or R15.[:D]
Well this bike may make a small group of dirt bike enthusiasts happy.

Honda NXR150 Bros

The NXR150 Bros is currently sold in the Brazilian market as an on-off road bike. The NXR is extremely popular in the Brazilian market, and comes with the capability to run on both ethanol and gasoline. It’s notable that Brazil is unique for the popularity of bio-fuels in its market, and the dual-fuel compatibility will not make it to the Indian market. A new, 2011 version of the bike is due for the Brazilian market in October 2011.

The NXR 150 bros is powered by a 149.2cc, four-stroke, single cylinder OHC engine, good for 13.8 bhp of power and 13.6 Nm of torque with PGM-FI. The Fuel Injection system, which is originally tuned to run both ethanol and gas, will be tuned for India. The engine has low friction components. The sturdy bike has a fuel tank capacity of 12 liters with a 2.3-liter reserve. The instrument panel has fuel gauge, odo, trip, turn signal indicators, high beam indicators and warning lights for Fuel Injection malfunction.

I love that bike, I love trail bikes and the only thing I hate about it is the anaemic power output. Its way too low. Should be at least 20 Bhp to satisfy the real off roaders, as they will be the ones who go for it and not office types

yes, :agree:going to office on a dirt bike doesnt look that good. but, riding a dirt bike will create a new passion to teenagers.

this will be a benchmark in Indian Bike segment.
