Hey fellas, i have an alto lx 2004 model,

i want to upgrade it's ICE to a nice one.

I currently have a Pioneer DEh5850mph HU and Sony XS-GT 69312

I'm willing to get a new HU and looking for SONY, i desire a USB, AUX, IPOD CONNECTIVITY, and bluetooth and ofc CD playing [:D]. I'm also considering a 2DIN from Sony, suggest me some good one, i'm confused.

Now i want to know if i put in an amp in my car, will i also require subs for the amp to work, if not is there any use of amp without subs.

i'm posting two amps which i'm considering, please have a look at them and suggest me which one's better, other choices are welcome too, but remember i go for branded only. [:)]

XM-GTR7040 : Xplod™ Amplifier : In-Car Entertainment : Sony India

and XM-GTR3301D : Xplod™ Amplifier : In-Car Entertainment : Sony India

Thanks

one question - why everything sony? its the least respected brand in car audio! i had sony co-axials, a sony amp & a sony sub in my car. everything is thrown out.

Also, do specify your budget, what kind of songs you listen, etc.

by the way, amps dont require subs. its the other way round. a sub wont work without an amp. amps can power speakers too.

7040 is a 4 channel amp which can power speakers as well as one sub whereas 3301D is a mono amp meant exclusively to power a subwoofer.

Go through this thread, you will understand the terms better.

I believe you are retaining your speakers.

Stay away from sony atleast for ICE. They are not experts!

Considering 18K go for a HU with 2 PreOuts from Pioneer which would cost you 9K.

For AMP, Rockford is great piece of system, but you should get that with good pair of speakers & HU.

Getting AMP in a higher segment & connecting to lower Speakers wont do justice.

For AMP, go for Infinity / JBL 4 Channel.

NOTE: Just list out you current ICE Setup in this format.

Head Unit

Front Speakers

Rear Speakers

AMP

Subs

This will help us providing the best input.

Even i would suggest you to stay from Sony HU'S atleast! The new ones are pretty poor in SQ and output , trust me i have one in Safari which is poor! Go for Pioneer instead.

If you are planning to change only the HU then go for something like Alpine or JVC. For your current speakers you will not need an amp i guess.

i also suggest you to stay away from sony HU (i am using a sony HU) as you said, you are using a pioneer HU so Alpine is a good upgrade for you in IMO. you can also try kenwood HU.for speakers go for JBL they are most VFM.

please mention (with model.no.) what you have in you car, and what you want as an upgrade?like you want your system with or without subwoofer?

for 18k budget with no sub, you can look at the following setup -

HU - Pio with USB, AUX & 2 pre-outs : 6-7k
Front - Illusion EL 6.1 components or Ground Zero comps : 6-8k
Amp - JBL S644 or Pioneer 4 ch amp : 6k

let the rear speakers be for the moment. connect the 4 ch amp to the front rear speakers. later, you can upgrade your rear speakers. else, if you buy a sub sometime, you can power the sub with this same amp.

As everybody has already suggested, STAY away from Sony. I am using SONY System in my Alto, and believe me i am damn disapponted with that setup. Its nothing close to JVC setup in my Honda City.
