The Genesis G70 has only been on sale in Australia for 12 months – via one dealership, in Sydney, for now – however Hyundai’s luxury division is already working on a facelift.

An updated version of the Genesis G70 is due in local showrooms either late this year or early next – about midway through the car’s five-year model cycle.

Although these photos show a car cloaked in camouflage, we can see the 2021 Genesis G70 sports sedan will gain the signature headlights and tail-lights that appeared on the new Genesis G80 limousine and Genesis GV80 luxury SUV.

Twin horizontal lenses front and rear are designed the give the new Genesis range an unmistakable brand identity, especially at night.

By the first half of next year, Genesis showrooms in Australia should have a line up of at least three vehicles – the updated Genesis G70, the all-new Genesis G80 limousine and the all-new Genesis GV80 SUV.

More Genesis models are due to follow – including possibly an electric sports car that was unveiled in concept form at the New York Auto Show last year – although the company is yet to reveal any further details.

2021 Genesis G70 revealed in factory photo leak

The refreshed 2021 Genesis G70 has been revealed ahead of time this week, thanks to a pair of leaked photos.

Surfacing on The Korean Car this week, these images offer our best look yet at the G70's complete front and rear makeover.

Where the premium sedan previously wore a handsome if somewhat anonymous look, its midlife refresh brings the car in line with the new-generation G80 sedan with its unique 'double-line Quadlamp' lighting and 'Crest Grille'.

The rear-end gets the same treatment, with a new boot lid, new double-line tail lamps, a new bumper with relocated number-plate position, and huge new Bentley-like exhausts.

A look at the cabin suggests we can expect much of the current model's interior design to carry over, although a larger main display appears to be visible atop the centre console.

Power – at least in top models – is expected to be supplied by the G80's newer, larger 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, producing 279kW and 588Nm. This would replace the 272kW/510Nm 3.3-litre unit that drives the current model (and the Kia Stinger).

2021 Genesis G70 revealed – UPDATE: Engines and safety specs confirmed

wlyb7dmkerxmleileuxt.jpg

The most recent 2021 Genesis G70 updates for the Korean market have been announced and, while not every configuration will necessarily be available in Australia, this gives us the best insight yet into the new model.

Hyundai's luxury spinoff will offer its facelifted G70 with the outgoing model's existing twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 (producing 272kW/510Nm), alongside a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder option producing 185kW/353Nm – up from 179kW – and 187kW with the 'Sports' package equipped.

A spread of new safety and technology features are also set to come standard with the 2021 G70, including forward collision-avoidance system, blind-spot collision-avoidance, safe exit warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance, navigation-based smart cruise control, lane following assist, and multi collision braking.

A sports package – offered only with the larger engine option – promises to give the car a more aggressive exhaust signature, while a new Dynamic AWD System offers a built-in drift mode. The G70 is slated to come onto the Australian market in the first half of 2021, with local specifications to be detailed closer to launch.
