Friends,

Ford Motor has plans of introducing a baby off-roader in the international market next year. The plan was hinted on by a executive from the company.

The new model, which will share parts with the Focus and Escape, will feature "offroad positioning and imagery" and will carry a premium price, according to Hau Thai-Tang, executive vice president of product development and purchasing. Thai-Tang was speaking at an investor conference in New York

The vehicle, as yet unnamed, is an all-new model with a design intended to recall Ford's classic mid-1960s Bronco offroader, according to a source familiar with the company's plans. The new compact could debut in 2019 as a 2020 model, said the source.

Ford Bronco SUV leaked ahead of debut – Could be based on Endeavour

Originally, Ford Bronco was an off-roader, which was on sale during the 1966-1996 period. Now, 22 years later, Ford has revived the Bronco name in a new SUV which shows off style and features reminiscent of the original Bronco.

2021 Ford Bronco: Get the Inside Story Before the Official Reveal

new-ford-bronco-rendering-by-nick-kaloterakis-200-1578512005.jpg

It's been 24 years since the last Ford Bronco rolled off the assembly line, giving zealots plenty of time to ruminate on the iconic nameplate and what it means to them. Bronco nostalgia is arguably more powerful now than it's ever been. The name carries so much weight that Ford cannot afford to apply it to just any SUV. There are certain elements that simply must be part of the package, or else the new Bronco's legacy will be about as respectable as George Lucas's godawful prequel trilogy.

new-ford-bronco-rendering-by-nick-kaloterakis-201-1578439994.jpg

Since word of a Bronco revival leaked a few years ago, we haven't been all that optimistic. The Ranger pickup's anticlimactic return to the U.S. wasn't a good omen. The truck we got was a mildly warmed-over version of the global Ranger that had been on sale elsewhere for years. We worried that the upcoming Bronco, too, might turn out to be a lame repurposing of one of Ford's global SUVs, such as the outdated Everest.

Based on spy photos, parts guides, and our sources within Ford and its suppliers, that doesn't seem to be the case. While we await Ford's official unveiling, everything we know about the new Bronco suggests it will be exactly what everyone wants it to be: a body-on-frame, two- or four-door SUV with legitimate off-road capability and a removable roof.

New 2021 Ford Bronco Photos Show Off-Road Kit

2021-ford-bronco-off-road-06-1580161588.jpg?crop=1.00xw:0.752xh;0,0.jpg

If the Ford Bronco wants to truly compete with the Jeep Wrangler, it's going to need an off-road-focused trim level. We're pretty sure that's exactly what we're looking at here, as this prototype has knobby off-road tires, a lifted suspension, flared fenders, and a few other differences compared to the more street-oriented Bronco we spied earlier this month. The lighter camouflage on this example also exposes the round headlights and LED accent lighting that lends the new SUV a retro touch.

2021-ford-bronco-off-road-02-1580161877.jpg?crop=1.00xw:0.918xh;0,0.jpg

There's a huge spare tire hanging off the rear of the Bronco and a small center high-mounted stoplight on top of it. We assume that the rear cargo area will be accessed by a swing-gate rather than a traditional liftgate.

Take an Early Look at 2021 Ford Bronco's Interior

i-c4wsqxp-x4-copy-1582658745.jpg?crop=1.00xw:1.jpg

Ford is set to finally unveil its new Bronco off-road SUV next month, although it seems that almost every day we're learning more about the revived off-roader. Now we can see that the interior will feature (no surprise these days) a large screen. Above it will be a row of controls and six toggle switches above the rearview mirror, as well as controls behind the gear selector.

It's fair to expect that the Bronco will be a serious off-roader; it has to be in order to compete with the Jeep Wrangler. We know it'll have an off-road-focused variant, likely an FX4, with off-road tires, a lifted suspension, and flared fenders. But it'll also need some gadgets inside the cabin to help it function well in various off-road terrain situations.

i-wsmzmfp-x4-copy-1582660388.jpg?crop=1.00xw:0.921xh;0,0.jpg

That's what we suspect the six toggle switches above the rearview mirror are for. Ford will offer more than 150 Bronco accessories at launch, according to Automotive News, and these upfitter switches will primarily connect to accessories such as additional exterior lighting, although they can be used for almost anything.

New Ford Bronco May Get Seven-Speed Manual Transmission

manual-transmission-getrag-6mti550-1583170508.jpg?crop=0.jpg

It's been rumored for some time now that the upcoming Ford Bronco will offer a manual transmission, and we now have some more evidence that this is happening for real. Someone on Reddit noticed a posting about an MTI550 manual transmission from supplier Magna PT's Getrag-Ford division, and several clues in the specs suggest that this gearbox slated for the Bronco that's set to be revealed this month.

Called the 5/6/7MTI550, this modular transmission is intended for longitudinal applications with either rear- or all-wheel drive. It can be configured to have five, six, or seven speeds, with the seven-speed version boasting a "crawler" gear for off-roading. Though the current specs for the seven-speed model do not list specific gear ratios, they do indicate a potential gear ratio spread of up to 11. By comparison, this offers more range than the 7.1 spread of the six-speed manual in the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Provided the Bronco is equipped with a two-speed transfer case, the low-range gearing will offer even more rock crawling capabilities.

See Even More Angles of the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport

bronco-sport-spy-photos-101-1585066028.jpg

  • We spied the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport testing on public roads, and the images are giving us an even closer look at the Escape-based off-roader.
  • The standard engine in the Bronco Sport will be a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder will be optional.
  • The Bronco Sport will arrive at dealers later this year with an expected starting price under $30,000.
Here, we're getting a better idea of what the Bronco Sport's boxy exterior profile will look like, as well as a look at its awesome roof rails. The Bronco Sport, also known as the "baby Bronco," will have bold "Bronco" script across the grille and will feature round headlights, dark lower-body cladding, and a little more ground clearance than the Escape on which it's based.

bronco-sport-spy-photos-105-1585066042.jpg

It's going to be powered by a standard turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, and there will be an optional turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The Bronco Sport will also have an available hybrid powertrain, Ford says, which we expect to be the same as the Escape hybrid's naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four and electric motor. Additionally, to support its commanding off-road appearance compared with the Escape, it will offer an optional all-wheel-drive system, which could include a differential lock and/or a low range.

2021 Ford Bronco Is Finally Coming, with Debut Set for July

  • Ford has announced that the new Bronco will be officially revealed in July.
  • The 2021 Ford Bronco is targeted at the Jeep Wrangler and will have removable doors and roof.
  • Production has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, so expect to see them at dealers sometime next year starting at around $30,000.
Ford will finally show the 2021 Bronco to the world in July 2020. We've seen spy photos, renderings, and leaked photos of the revived off-roader numerous times leading up to this long-awaited reveal, so the world pretty much already knows what it looks like. But now we'll finally get all the details.

screen-shot-2020-06-04-at-9-44-16-am-1591278757.png?crop=0.692xw:1.00xh;0.png

We expect the Bronco's base engine to be a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, with a twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 as an option. However, there's no doubt that Ford could offer an even more powerful engine for, let's say, an even more capable Raptor variant. There's also word that there will be a manual-transmission option, something the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator both offer.

Ford launches Bronco as outdoor brand, teases three models

A new sub-brand has been launched by Ford overnight, as the car giant focuses on outdoor enthusiasts.

bgz87qwsehsgbgjq2xor.jpg

Ford has unveiled its strategy to launch 'Bronco' as a spin-off brand, competing directly with Jeep.

Three new models will be released under the Bronco banner in the coming days, with Ford promising off-road capability and durability across the range.

The new Broncos – a two-door, a four-door, and a 'Baby Bronco' called the Sport – are to be launched on 13 July 2020.

su560tytlqcghsctsx9l.jpg

Bronco is a spin-off of the nameplate given to a series of short-wheelbase, two-door models produced from 1965-1996. Though originally developed as a stand-alone product, later models were based on Ford's F-Series pick-up platforms.

It's understood Ford is wanting to specifically target Chrysler's own lucrative off-road brand, Jeep.

In the announcement overnight, Ford took a thinly-veiled swipe at Jeep, tying the heritage of the Bronco directly to the history of the original US Army Truck – commonly referred to as the jeep.

Along with the new brand, Ford has also launched 'Bronco Nation', an independent online community for outdoor enthusiasts and Bronco owners. Though at this time the online community is only for those within the United States.

Four off-road adventure parks will also be launched by Ford. Called 'Bronco Off-Rodeos', the parks look to be four-wheel-drive training grounds for Bronco owners based in the US.

2021 Ford Bronco Is Here, and It's Everything You Hoped For

2021-ford-bronco-2-door-139-1594328607.jpg?crop=0.811xw:0.811xh;0.105xw,0.jpg

  • The 2021 Ford Bronco made its debut tonight looking every bit like the Jeep Wrangler's worst nightmare, and Ford says dealers will have it next spring.
  • The new Bronco comes with a choice of two engines, both EcoBoost turbos, and in two- and four-door versions.
  • The base two-door starts at $29,995, but with 200 accessories, a desirable Sasquatch off-road package, and a choice of six trim levels with names like Black Diamond and Wildtrak, you're going to have some choices to make.

The 2021 Ford Bronco is here—or will be, at dealers, next spring—and with it comes a torrent of jargon. We'll explain all the details. But the first thing to know is that you're gonna want that Sasquatch package. Which comes with the HOSS, or "High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension."

2021-ford-bronco-4-door-120-1594323473.jpg

The Bronco, available in both two- and four-door models, starts at $29,995 for a base two-door and $34,695 for the four-door. That setup comes with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four (projected to make 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque) and a seven-speed Getrag manual transmission. Ford likes to call first gear a crawler gear, which, when paired with the optional automatic four-wheel-drive transfer case, delivers a 94.8:1 crawl ratio—similar, actually, to a Wrangler Rubicon. The shift pattern puts that gear, "C", below reverse, to keep it out of the way during daily driving. The manual is only available with the 2.3, which can also be paired with a 10-speed automatic. The optional 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 is slated to make 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. So whichever engine you choose, your Bronco is going to be turbocharged.

2021-ford-bronco-4-door-102-1594323466.jpg

The top is also removable. The two-door is a hardtop only, while the four-door comes standard with a soft top but can be ordered with both hard and soft tops. In both two- and four-door Broncos, the roll bar (or, as Ford's lawyers call it, "sport bar") starts behind the rear seats, so the sky is open from the windshield back past the rear seats. Those seats can be marine-grade vinyl, and you can opt for a true hose-it-out interior, with rubberized flooring and removable drain plugs. The interior's switches and knobs are rubberized and silicone sealed as well. A squall might soak the passengers, but the Bronco interior won't care.

Here's How to Remove the 2021 Ford Bronco's Doors and Roof

  • Like the Jeep Wrangler, the 2021 Ford Bronco has removable doors and roof, and here's how to take them off.
  • The two-door Bronco is a hardtop only, while four-door models can have either a soft or hard top.
  • The front roof panels are removed by releasing a few latches, and the rear panel and doors use tools included in the factory tool kit.
Ford is going straight for the heart of Jeep with the revival of the Bronco, so it's no surprise that, like the popular Wrangler, it also has removable doors and roof. Here's how you remove the doors and roof off the 2021 Ford Bronco:

bronco-4dr-features-13-1594669809.jpg?crop=0.794xw:1.00xh;0.jpg

The two-door Bronco is a hardtop only and has three panels on the roof—two front sections and a rear section—although a painted top with an additional section over the cargo area is available. Those roof panels can be removed by one person, Ford says, by unlocking a few latches on the inside. The four-door models, however, come standard with a soft top, and the available hardtop models have the four removable sections.

bronco-4dr-features-10-1594670036.jpg?crop=0.jpg

Ford says that all four doors can be stored on board in protective bags, but they take up a lot of space, so don't plan on taking much gear with you if you do that. To take off the doors, first roll down the windows of the doors you wish to remove. Then fold the mirrors forward; they're connected to the body so, unlike on the Jeep, they stay in place, which is good, but you'll want to get them out of the way. Then you'll need to release the door's electrical and mechanical connectors via a small compartment inside. Ford claims these are much easier to release than the Jeep's. Finally, using the M10 hex tool that's part of the factory-included Bronco tool kit, remove the lower and upper hinge bolts and lift the door up to remove.
