Hey Peter; first of all sorry couldnt comment on this thread since I was buzy with my subscribed threads only. And secondly congrats on getting your love back. That feels great to have your preworshiped car back.
I would love to buy my 2008 DZire VDi back in future when I will have some extra money and ofcourse will have some extra space to park it too.

@guralla74

i think painting dual color was a trend sometimes earlier. our 97 ceilo was painted dual color by the earlier owner. wine red at top and grey at the bottom1/4th. i dint see any vehicle painted dual color these days. i thought of change the same to single color. Our ceilo we sold on 2010.
Agree with you, yes this trend was earlier. This kind of coloring most suit to the vehicles having broader side dimensions like Sumo, I have seen lot of sumo's painted like that. Since this is a complete make over I felt it gives a unique look since that trend is not present now[clap]

Wow your UNO will look super cool with this paint scheme, cant wait to see the completed car
@Peter

Congrats getting back your own "UNO".
Thanks

I always felt that of this beatiful car, where people have not understood its design properly.
It did win the car of the year in many countries when it was launched.

Since UNO side body is wide where 2 color combination will look good. I have seen one UNO long back like this which has been painted with Red for upper 3/4th porttion and black for the bottom 1/4th portion, that was really good instead of stickers( sorry I do not have a photo of it). So think of some thing like 3/4th upper portion and 1/4th bottom portion in different colors. If this is so, then my choise will be again Red for 3/4th portion and Black/grey for the 1/4th bottom portion with some black alloys[:)]

Wish to see all the developments of the restoration and the final beauty soon !!
Will keep you updated. No offence meant but I don't think your suggestion will suit this car. It's more suited to classic cars.

Restoring one's loved car is always a great feeling. The sentiment and the satisfaction will be great when it is done precisely.

waiting for the complete process.

Congrats that u bought back ur old car.
Thanks. This is the car I loved the most.

Fantastic thread, what a car! I love those Abarth type painted UNO pics. I am glued to this thread now. Thanks a lot. Adding reps now.
I actually had Abarth stickers on it before I sold it.

OT: I dont think even today's hatchbacks offer that huge interiors!
Most people are shocked at the interior space. It can put a Swift to shame. The handling even puts a lot of todays hatchbacks to shame.

Thanks. I doubt you will want yor car back after its 15 years old. Maruti's are just not that solidly built. Being a diesel, expect the new owner to abuse it a lot. But if you are attached to it why not?

Adding a few pictures of a donor car from which I got some parts. Following are the parts I took
-Front Windscreen
-Rear Hatch Gas struts
-All 4 Door Pads
-All 4 Door Handles (Inner and Outer)
-All 4 window winders
-Rear half of carpet
-Front AC vents
-Choke Lever
-RHS Wing Mirror
-Inner Mirror
-Fuel Filler Cap
-Fuel filler pipe (To be removed later)
-Sun Visors (To be removed later)

nice to see a good thread regarding MODS
Awaiting to see your car fully finished.
any rough picture regarding job.
It's more of a restoration project with a few subtle mods. As you can see, I had already blackened the door frames and painted the lower half of the bumpers white. I had also added Abarth stickers on the front fenders and hatch. This time I'll be giving it a proper Abarth look. also the interiors will be done up. The seats are already sent for Art Leather fixed covers in red and Black. Also fitting central locking (the silicon unit I had fitted was removed), power windows, custom enclosures for the rear speakers and possibly alloys. Still hunting for the alloys.

Still hunting for the alloys.
Peter, Just a month back my mechanic broke down a complete Fiat Uno Petrol vehicle and sold it to a scrap dealer. The car wasnt that bad either. It should have been seen by some one like you , who would have given it a second life.
Anyways, are you specific about 98PCD 13" alloys? I hunted for those for almost an year and ended up fitting a 100 PCD 13" alloy with wobble washers and hub rings on my 118 NE. Totally I spent less than Rs 9000/- for the alloys (5 Nos of Used ones), hub adaptors (Got it fabricated from a lathe guy) and the wobble washers (Turned a M-800 wheel nut on a lathe). Do let us know if at all you land up with a 100 PCD alloys.

I wish I could have rescued it.

Please post some photos of wobble washers and hub rings and their installation. My first choice is 14" Palio Alloys (5.5J). That will allow me to mount 185/60/R14 tyres. Otherwise some other brand in 14 or 13. Also 13" Old Siena alloys are nice.

Also I will visit Goa very soon for GOA,Peter & the UNO[clap]
Most welcome.

Peter happy to see your UNO in restoration.

I wish to see your UNO in completed stage very soon.
Thanks

Update:
The tinkering work has not yet started due to heavy rains. also met the painter and he too was worried because of the rain. I also visited the Dupont shop to select the shade. There was Passion Red (Punto), Formula Red (Palio Sport, and same colour as my Siena) and Rosso Red (Also for some Palio). This are the official Fiat Shades. Besides there are similar bright reds for Hyundai, Ford and Mahindra. I'd prefer to stick with the official Fiat Colours.

I guess 185 tyre would be too wide for Uno and you might have to put some extra effort to steer. Did Uno come with the 155/70/R13 Tyres?
1. Hub ring was made using a lathe, the raw material was an industrial grade mild steel seamless pipe. It was press fitted into the centre hole of the Alloy wheel. (Lathe guy charged me Rs 100/- per ring)
2. The threads in the innner side of wheel of 16 nos of M-800 wheel nuts where drilled out to give a 13 mm inner dia. (Because I had used a 100 PCD wheel) (Rs 7/- per nut and totally Rs 100/- to drill a hole oof 13 mm dia on all 16 nuts)
3. I used 12 mm Stainless steel washers for the wobble. (Rs 8/- per washer)
4. As the offset of the wheel was not apt to the 118NE specs, and also it did foul with the A-arm while steering at extreme positions, I had to get 8 mm thick spacer plates to bring the wheels at the right track. (Rs200/- for the raw material and Rs 250/- for machining)
5. The bolts were the rear wheel damper bolts of M-800. They were of the same thread size and pitch as the wheel bolts of 118NE. (Rs15/- or Rs 20/-, dont remember exactly)
Hope the pictures speak better.

@Peter,

Nice going !! for paint apart from Dupont, there is one more beautiful company who also supply Auto paints to car manufacturers. So check with them also if they have an outlet in your Area. The brand name is "Glasurit" and it is from a company BASF which is a European.

I have personally seen the paint quality in one of my friends makeover shop, which looks great !! on any car

Re: Stop Gap Car for P3T3R

Most people have the same view. However I already have a white car, so I was just thinking about red. In fact when I bought the car new, I wanted red. But only white and grey were available.

Let's see. The Punto looks good. Where did he get it done? I'll be taking out the seats next week when the car goes for bodywork and paint. I'll then send the seats for doing up.
Hi p3t3r,
i am looking forward to your restoration project. Even for me I always have something in mind, to get a small car and do some complete make overs.
By the way Thanks 350z and p3t3r, This punto is mine [:D].
from the carid.com site i bought the dash kit. To match with that i selected the seat covers like that.

I know about BASF. Our ship used to carry chemicals for them. It's a German company. They don't have an outlet in Goa.

BTW just picked up the driver and passenger sun visors as the ones in my car were spoilt.

I need advise on the following issues:
1. I am planning the install the speakers from my Siena (Blaupunkt) in the Uno. The front doors don't seem to be suitable for the installation of Components. Please give some suggestions for fitting the front components. For the rear, I'm planning custom boxes integrated into the sides to minimize wastage of boot space.
2. Please suggest which central locking to install. Should be suitable for the Uno and the remote should be suitable for converting to a Flip Key.
3. Please suggest good power windows. Preferably same brand as the central locking.
4. Please suggest what to do for the head unit. The Blaupunkt Hamburg is currently running in the i10 with JBL speakers. This would be the first choice. I would then need a HU for the i10. Choices would be the JBL or Sony HU's without CD. Or should I go for anything else?
