Fiat Punto Evo T-JET to use a new turbocharger, caught testing in India – Spied

The Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet with a myriad of sensors in its engine compartment. The turbocharged, petrol-powered hatchback is expected to launch in India next year, the report says.

While the Punto Evo T-Jet will continue using the 1.4-liter turbocharged engine seen on the Linea T-Jet, it will make use of a different turbocharger, the forum says. Where the Linea T-Jet makes 113 bhp, the Punto Evo T-Jet would produce 105 bhp and 185 Nm of torque, a source told the forum.

Another change on the Punto Evo T-Jet is that it will reportedly get larger disc brakes on all wheels, where the current Punto Evo offers only front discs.

The Punto Evo is presently offered with 1.2- and 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engines, and a 1.3-liter diesel engine in two states of tunes. All variants put their power through a 5-speed manual transmission.

Fiat has also announced the launch of its performance Abarth brand, however, the brand’s introduction in the country (initially planned for 2013) has seen several delays, which the company attributes to market slowdown and unfavorable exchange rates.
Rivals: Tata Bolt Sport, VW Polo GT TSI
Expected launch date: End-2015 or early-2016

More pics of Punto Evo Abarth,
The exterior sees subtle cosmetic changes such as larger ‘Scorpion’ alloy wheels, contrasting wing mirror covers, side body decals, a ‘T-Jet’ badge on the bootlid, a new exhaust system and finally the Fiat badges will be replaced with Abarth logos (covered in these pictures).

Inside, the Abarth Punto Evo looks similar to the regular Punto Evo, save for mild differences. Like the outside, the Fiat badges inside will likely be replaced with the ‘Abarth scorpion’, and the seats are expected with contrast stitching. The test mule also sports aluminium pedals, another feature that would set the Abarth apart from the regular Punto

Punto Evo Abarth gets 135 BHP engine with 5-speed MT.

Changes expected include 16″ Scorpion Claw Abarth alloy wheels, Abarth logo at the front & back, chrome exhaust tip, Abarth body decals, T-Jet badge, Abarth badge, contrast colour ORVM, aluminium ABC pedals, etc.

Some more sporty elements such as revised front & rear bumpers with diffusers, a larger rear spoiler, etc. would have made the Punto Evo Abarth really stand out.

Enthusiasts looking for a petrol hot hatch can have another reason to rejoice. Common Fiat, its already late to get the tjet to the punto. If the punto tjet gets launched along with the TATA Bolt sports 120hp, it would be appetising for the enthusiasts. There's no clear option of swift getting the sports variant as in EU and polo GT Tsi a manual. Is there any news on which gearbox the abarth punto tjet gets? Is it the fiat c501 gearbox?
The 16 inch scorpion alloys makes me drooling.

Looks smoking hot. FIAT took their own sweet time to bring this to India. If only they priced it close to GT, they can get some sales, I guess. But I for one, would love to get my hands on this one.

+1 to that FD. it looks super cool. This Might be a game changer for FIAT. If and only if our junta showers their love on this. FIAT deserves appreciation even though after constant obstacles in india they have succeeded in strengthening their market share. i love the Matt color something i have been dying to try on my Sierra.
