I think 10k is the normal fee even in Chennai for such fancy numbers. For a more fancy number , one has to shell out more!

My question is will the dealer do the necessary steps to get the fancy number for us or do we have to battle it on our own in the RTO?

Yes dealer can handle it very well.
Or approaching anyone working in RTO will help.

I had paid 10,000 to get a 3 digit no to RTO, Dealer called me whether i was fine with the alloted no 363.
I was happy with this no.
According to me paying 10k for a number like 363 is too much, unless and until it is your lucky number!

Wont the dealer do the registration for us with the number we need?
Yes they do, but their rates are too high! Its better you directly go to the rto agent or the best is to go directly to the rto and buy the number!

man, thats too much of price you paid mukesh,we have this 272 no. in all our current as well as previous two wheelers and in routine all we have to shell out extra is 500 to 650/- for this number.Only if there are more then one person applying for the same number, then its been auctioned and who so ever pays higher takes it.For four vehicle, if i want the same number then i have to shell out some 3.5k's.
Digits like 9,99,999,9999,1,11,1111 are vip;s and not allowed and some others nearer like these fetches more amount.

I plan to try for a single digit no. for my i10, say, like AP 02 ** 0001 or 0009, if not, a digit no. like AP 02 ** 0022 or 0088.

And for the SX4 that we will be buying later, probably something like KA 03 ** 4141 / 7575
or if affordable, 0022/0066.

Its highest in punjab i think.

Earlier in pondicherry it was 300 for add on numbers and 3000 for double digit number and 5000 for single digit and same price for number of our wish.

But recently the rto 's changed everything and its giving number in alphabetical order for the vehicles that come for registering on that day.

the 300 add on is lifted off

now you need to pay 5000 for add on and simple required number.
a 1000 more for fancy 4 digit number on limited choice

10000/- for required number
and 2000 more for single digit number.

now a days lot of audi and bmw are being registering in pondicherry . so i think this rate may have gone up or the amount may be unofficial.

we need to pay this amount at cm office. this money goes to cm relief fund. A good practice.

My brother paid Rs 3000 for Accent's number(7447) as it was booked in advance nearly 5000 numbers ahead in 2005.
I paid Rs 3000 for my Verna's number(7447) on the second day of opening the series(PY 01 AL),when nearly 150 numbers have been registered and a lot of fancy numbers were booked.I was interested to get the number 1,but,it not available that time.
My dad paid Rs 25k for getting the Skoda's number as(TN 21 M 6),as it was the number blocked by the then CM.My dad got that number through influence and he nearly waited for 2 months for that number after booking it.
And,for Captiva(TN 19 A 0099),my dad paid around 20-25K as it was booked few days after the car was booked.
