Facebook users must be familiar with birthday wall posts that sound almost robotic, such as "HBD" and "Happy Birthday." Facebook will soon offer users an alternative way to wish their friends and families on their birthday - video messages.

The social network has started rolling out a new feature dubbed 'Birthday Video Cam' that lets you say "Happy Birthday" to friends via video. The feature has been launched on the iOS app, and is expected to be available on more platforms soon. With the new 15-seconds 'Birthday Video Cam', Facebook wants to encourage people to interact via videos rather than just texts. Users will be prompted about the new 'Birthday Video Cam' feature on the wall of the user whose birthday it is and will show a pop-up message at the bottom that says, "Record a birthday video."

TechCrunch has shared a screenshot that shows the new feature on the Facebook for iOS app. Apart from recording the video, the feature also lets users add various effects including frames before sharing it on the friend's wall. Facebook, which recently confirmed that it has a user base of nearly 1.6 billion, has been lately pushing videos on the platform.

Last year, the company released an array of features aimed at increasing videos views on the social network. It launched the suggested videos feature which started showing up on website and apps displaying rows of related snippets after someone viewed a clip from News Feed. The company last year rolled out auto playing videos on its website as well as apps. The feature however targeted at users who watched a lot of videos and had a fast Internet connection with a generous data cap.

The NCAA March Madness seems to have hit someone in the Facebook team. To celebrate the basketball fever, the social media giant has just updated its Facebook Messenger app with a secret basketball game hidden within it. To be able to play the game, you first need to update the app to the latest version. The game is available across both, Android and iOS Messenger app

To start the game, you’ll first need to locate the basketball emoji (its present in the existing list of emojis) and send it to a friend. Then just tap on the basketball emoji (or a play option will appear just below it). Your screen will now have a basketball placed at different locations. All you have to do is swipe the ball upwards in a perfect angle to make sure it perfectly gets into the loop.

Your challenge is to get most baskets consecutively compared to your friend. The game is pretty similar to Paper Toss, which is available on both Android and iOS platforms. We would like to point out that the game is pretty addictive and while we could easily net in 11 basketballs, but things got pretty complicated after that.

If your friend pings you while you’re playing the game, you do get the heads up notifications. However, if you go to respond to the message, the progress of the game is lost and it gets reset.

This is not the first time Facebook added a native game to its Messenger app. Last year, the company had also added chess game that allowed you to battle your logic skills with your friend, right within the app. To start the chess game, all you need to do is type @FBChess. If games isn’t your thing, you could also try @Dailycute and see what happens.

Facebook yesterday added a new feature to its messenger app = Instant Video. The feature allows users to send instant videos inside the chat window itself.

Facebook claims that this feature can be useful in situations when you want to ask a friend to choose between a pair of shoes, which ice cream flavour you want or even send him the reaction of your text messages sent over the Messenger app.
"It's perfect for sharing quick moments with friends who aren't right by your side or making your conversations richer by seeing each other face-to-face when you are messaging," Facebook said of the Instant Video feature.

To use the new feature, one has to tap on the video icon in the top right corner in the chat window to begin broadcasting video. By default, the sound is off for the person receiving the instant voice message. One may note that, instant video feature only works when both the sender and recipient have opened the chat window. Other than that, Facebook Messenger, already has a video calling feature since 2015 which can enabled anytime if the recipient has not opened the chat.

Last month, Facebook introduced a new 'Stories' feature in Facebook owned Instagram in another attempt to attack against the Snapchat which the social network giant considers its biggest threat. Instagram Stories received a good response and people seem to be using it very often these days. Secondly, Facebook also introduced another video sharing app for teenagers - 'Facebook Lifestage' which gave an ultimate privacy solution to teenagers inside the app interface.

Instant Video feature is available for both Android and IOS and at the time of writing this story, the update was yet to come for Indian on Android platform. We have to wait and see as to how will users greet this new addition. Given Facebook's huge user base, it's likely that if not most but some of the users will surely like the new 'Instant Video' add-on.

A profile picture is an important asset of your Facebook profile. It helps users easily find people they are looking for, and thus make new connections. However, not everyone feels safe to add a profile picture. In fact, according to research conducted by Facebook, the social media giant found that women avoid sharing profile pictures showing their face due to safety concerns. To combat this. Facebook has introduced a new profile picture protection tool for its users in India.

Just take a photo in 'Portrait' mode using your compatible dual-lens smartphone, then share as a 3D photo on Facebook where you can scroll, pan and tilt to see the photo in realistic 3D.

won't that impact facebook, once people get to know how much time they spend on facebook, they may make efforts to reduce facebook time? so less page views, causing less revenue to facebook? Or they are facing thru put problem with huge load?

Or its some thing like Ad on cigarettes smoking kills and yet people buy them. Show people how much time they wasted and people will want to spend more.

Facebook on Tuesday said it is consolidating the system that handles payments at the social network and in its family of messaging apps.

The move comes in a climate of political rhetoric that includes calling for the California-based internet company to be broken up. Transactions such as payments or donations at Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp or the main social network will eventually be handled by a unified Facebook Pay system, according to marketplace and commerce vice president Deborah Liu.

Facebook is bringing its Messenger app to desktop platforms. Facebook Messenger users can now access the service on macOS and Windows. The service brings perks such as unlimited and free group video calling as well. The desktop app will sync across mobile and offer notifications similar to the mobile applications. The app also features dark mode and supports the option to share GIFs with your teammates.

The social media giant claims that it has seen a more than 100 percent increase in use of desktop browsers in the past month. It notes that Facebook users are using browsers for audio and video calls via Messenger. In a way to capitalize on this momentum, Facebook is bringing the desktop app to the mainstream. The application will make it easier for Facebook users to stay in touch. This also means there won’t be a need to juggle browser tabs or switch windows to access the service.

Through the coming month, iOS users across the world will start to see the update on their devices. For Android phones, the new update is set to come out in May.

The company is positioning the feature alongside its response efforts against the Coronavirus pandemic. The iOS app for Facebook is about to soon get a major dark mode touch which many people have been waiting for. The website version of the popular social media platform recently started getting dark mode support in Beta. However, both the Android and the iOS apps of Facebook are yet to experience dark mode. Now, a few screenshots have surface displaying how dark mode will actually look on the iOS application.

While still not perfect, the dark mode implementation of the Facebook iOS app gets most of the elements right. As shown in the screenshots by WABetaInfo, some elements like the profile picture are still shown in white. This is also the case with Facebook’s dark mode implementation on desktop, where all elements are still not dark yet. We expect these areas to be worked on quickly and fixed by the next beta update.
