WhatsApp Linked Devices, Advanced Search features show up on latest Beta app for Android

WhatsApp has been working on a couple of new features lately. While these features have been under closed-door development lately, the social media platform has started receiving some of these features in the latest beta version. WhatsApp Beta for Android has brought us one step closer to the much-awaited features, Linked Accounts and Advanced Search.

According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android update introduces a new interface. This can be used to manage all the devices linked to the WhatsApp account. The publication suggests that the ‘WhatsApp Web’ tab has now been replaced with ‘Linked Devices’ tab. This could mean that the users will now be able to link the WhatsApp account to more devices beyond the Web app.

Now, the Linked Devices tab on WhatsApp will show a list of all devices that are linked to the account. From here, the users will be able to add or remove any device. The interface will also allow users to choose which devices can stay logged in and which devices can be logged out.

Facebook brings ‘official music videos’ to India

Facebook on Friday introduced ‘official music videos’ in India to showcase music videos from labels like T-Series Music, Zee Music Company, and Yash Raj Films on its platform. The music video experience on Facebook is available in India, Thailand, and the US. Users in India will be able to watch content from the country’s top music labels T-Series Music, Zee Music Company, and Yash Raj Films, a statement said.

“Over the past year, we have been working with partners in the Indian music industry to build the foundation of a music video experience for our consumers, and are thrilled to launch official music videos on the platform,” Facebook India Director and Head of Partnerships Manish Chopra said. He added that the company will continue to find opportunities to add more unique social sharing experiences and bring music into the ways people share and connect on Facebook.

Facebook said ‘official music videos’ will “create new social experiences that go beyond just watching the video”. “On Facebook, you will be able to discover new artists and tracks through social sharing, clicking through to a song from a Music Video shared to a friend’s story or a post in news feed,” it said.

It also added that without leaving Facebook, you can connect with and learn more about an artist and their creative ambitions, watch the story behind their music on their page, label page and connect through real-time interactions on Facebook Live.

Users can access the videos in different ways, including on Facebook Watch. They can also access and discover music videos directly on their news feed allowing friends and family to share their favourite music, or through search.

Facebook starts Instagram and Messenger chat integration in new update

Facebook appears to have begun the process of integrating the chat systems found in Messenger and Instagram. You might see a pop-up upon opening Instagram that says “There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram”. The new update to Instagram brings with it four major changes, the key amongst them being the ability to chat with Facebook friends via the application.

There’s also a colorful new look for chats as well as the ability to react with any emoji and swipe to reply to any message. The DM icon on Instagram has also been replaced by the Messenger icon. The folks over at The Verge were the first to spot this update. We have yet to receive it on any of our devices though. The update is optional for now and those who choose to ignore it can still receive message requests from Facebook accounts.

Facebook Messenger introduces Shortcuts feature

Messenger-shortcuts.png
Facebook has announced a new feature for its Messenger app called Shortcuts using which users can now issue commands via the chat window to perform certain functions like notifying everyone in a group chat, or silently sending a message without notifying other users. Users can also send GIFs and ASCII emoticons on Facebook Messenger using the new Shortcuts feature.

Facebook announced that the commands namely @everyone and /silent shortcuts are available today to people using Messenger on iOS and Android. When you start a message with @everyone, all participants in the chat will be notified. “@everyone is perfect for group reminders, impromptu get-togethers or when you need to gather the braintrust to crowdsource an answer to a time-sensitive question”, said the company.

The next command is the silent one. When you use /silent (also available on Instagram as “@silent”), the members of your chat will not receive a notification of your message at all. The command comes in handy when you don’t want to interrupt someone with a non-urgent pop-up notification or disturb them during their off hours.

Further, Facebook said that it will be introducing several new shortcuts that will help in the efficiency of Messenger for both practical and entertainment purposes. Using the new /pay shortcut, makes it easier to send and receive money right in the one-on-one Messenger chats. Simply type /pay to send or request money securely without fees. This feature will be coming to the US via the Android and iOS Messenger apps.
