RSM i thought atleast you would know the two numbers KA17 and KA27 because you too were in the same region as i am for atleast 4 years right?

This is funny. My grand father's decades old Vespa's number started with "UGX".

Absolutely.
Can still remember the musical sound of the closing of that car!!
Never felt so close to a vehicle again, till I bought the first of my own ... which was an RX100 ... I still believe it was the best thing to happen to Indian roads!!

The codes for Goa are as follows
GA-01-North Goa
GA-02-South Goa
Both have been discontinued and now every RTO has its own Code.
GA-03-Mapusa
GA-04-Bicholim
GA-05-Ponda
GA-06-Vasco-Da-Gama
GA-07-Panjim (Capital)
GA-08-Margao
GA-09-Quepem

Normally A-S was for private vehicles and T-Z was for public. With a few exceptions of course. GA-01-Y was a private series. Usually 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers had separate series except in the first couple of years when 0001-4999 was 2 wheelers and 5000-9999 was 4 wheelers. The new series is also messed up. GA-07-F is public vehicles in Panjim and GA-03-K is public vehicles in Mapusa. F & K are supposed to be for private vehicles.

The G series is reserved for Govt. vehicles and X series for the state transport (Kadamba Transport Corporation).

The old series was GDA-GDZ. GDB & GDQ were for Daman & Diu when it was the UT of Goa, Daman & Diu. GDM & GDR were temp registrations. For a short while we have GGA,GGB,GGC,GGE,GGF,GGG &GGH.

I don't know why we can't have a uniform system all over India.

exactly. i too was thinking about this. here in KA, the series F is for KSRTC vehicles and G for other govt. vehicles ie., for police and politicians. i think there are also particular series for 4 wheelers, 2 wheelers, yellow board vehicles etc. those who have got the info can highlight about the same.

My M800 is KL-10 (Kerala - Malappuram District), WagonR is KL-11 (Kerala - Calicut District). I had another M800 (sold last year), with KL-7 (Kerala - Ernakulam Dstrict) registration.

Generally in Kerala, the sequence was from it is KL-1 (Tiruvananthapuram) to KL-14 (Kasargode) till last year. Now they have spitted each district into different zones and only the capital will have the prime sequence number.

For eg: KL-7 will be available only in Cochin city, which belongs to Ernakulam district. There are many Zones in each district now.

KL-15 is reserved for KSRTC. I have noticed separate registration sequence for Police and other Govt. vehicles. Will try to get the details on that.

Does anyone from Tamil Nadu know which area the series (old type) "TAI" belong to? You won't need any sticker on your car. We can all travel then and pick up vehicles with that series.
